Mattia Comotti earns his first win at the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON.

Appiano Gentile, May 10 ^th 2024 – Italy’s Mattia Comotti wins the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON with a total score of 15 under-par. Fellow Italian player, Enrico Di Nitto concludes the tournament in 2^nd place only 1 stroke back. France’s Benjamin Kedochim continues his solid performance with a three-day score of 11 under-par. In 4^th place at 10 under-par, Italian amateur Alessandro Radig and only 1 stroke back at 9 under-par, French amateur Paul Franquet.

The final round of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON began at 8:00 a.m. local time from the 1^stand 10^th hole and the final group teed off at 9:17 am local time from the 1^st hole. The players competing at the beautiful Golf Club La Pinetina were able to play with optimal scoring conditions as it was a mostly sunny day with temperatures around 23° Celsius and barely any wind.

The tournament is named after and dedicated to highly acclaimed golf instructor, Giorgio Bordoni who unexpectedly passed away in 2013 at the age of 48. This year is the 10^th edition of the event which has been a consistent stop on the Alps Tour schedule since 2014. In 2020, it was the only year the event wasn’t played due to Covid-19.

Italy’s Mattia Comotti, 24, wins his 1^st Alps Tour title at the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. He moved in the lead after yesterday’s round 2 and today he shot a 3 under-par, 67 to conclude the tournament with a three-day total of 15 under-par. Comotti turned professional at the end of July 2023 so this is his 1^st full playing season on the Alps Tour as a professional player. In today’s final round, he made 4 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine and then 2 more birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine. After his win, Comotti was very emotional and commented: “I’m extremely happy, I’m speechless to be honest. To earn my 1^st win as a professional in not even a full calendar year since I turned pro is truly amazing. This win is for my entire family, but especially my mom, who passed away. To be honest I wasn’t expecting this win, I hadn’t booked a hotel room for last night. Normally, I’m always right on the cut line, but today, to be playing in the final pairing today and earn the win is extraordinary.” Comotti took the time to: “congratulate my playing partner Enrico Di Nitto. He’s a great fighter and we were very close for the entire day. Had he made the putt on the 17^th hole, we would have been tied heading to the 18^th and it would have been a great fight. I had a short putt on the 18^th hole but I told myself if I miss I lose and need to play in a playoff against a great player so I really concentrated on making the putt.” For the rest of the season he plans on: “playing the entire Alps Tour season this year and trying to conclude the season as high as possible in the Order of Merit rank.”

Enrico Di Nitto, 31, from Italy, shot a final round of 4 under-par, 66 to conclude the tournament in 2nd place, only 1 stroke from the winning score with a three-day total of 14 under-par. He made 2 birdies and 1 bogey on the opening front nine and then made 3 more birdies to close out his round. Di Nitto is a past winner on the Alps Tour and has achieved various good finishes over the years.

France’s Benjamin Kedochim, 29, concludes the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON with a 3^rd place finish and a total score of 11 under-par. He made 3 birdies on the front nine and 3 bogeys on the back nine holes to conclude his final round with an even-par round. Kedochim has earned several top 5 finishes in his career but is continuing his pursuit in trying to capture his 1^st title on the Alps Tour. He has been playing consistently well since the beginning of the 2024 season and plans on continuing to work hard to hopefully earn a trophy in the upcoming events.

Mattia Comotti moves into the lead after day 2 of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON.

Appiano Gentile, May 9^th, 2024 – After two rounds of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON, we have a very close leaderboard. Italy’s Mattia Comotti moves into the lead with a two-day total of 12 under-par. France’s Benjamin Kedochim is in solo 2^nd place at 11 under-par. Enrico Di Nitto is only 1 back at 10 under-par. There is a 2-way tie for 4^th place with a French duo: Xavier Poncelet and Alexandre Daydou at 9 under-par.

It was another day with mostly sunny skies and a temperature around 23° Celsius that welcomed the players at Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy, for the second round of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. Play began at 7:30 a.m. local time from the 1st and 10th hole.

Mattia Comotti, 24, from Italy, leads after two rounds of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. He shot a bogey-free second round of 8 under-par, 62 with 4 birdies on the front nine holes and 4 birdies on the back nine holes for a two-day total of 12 under-par. The same occurred during yesterday’s round 1 as he shot a 4 under-par, 66 round and today put together a fabulous bogey-free round to move into the lead. After his 8 under-par, 62 Comotti was very satisfied and happily commented: “Today was a spectacular day. I had the chance to hole out two chip shots, and for the rest, I played well. The few mistakes I made I was able to recover nicely so it was really a super day. This morning, I was more worried about making the cut, but as the day went on, I made a few putts and some birdies and gained some confidence from there to put together a good round.” Looking forward to playing in the final pairing tomorrow as the tournament leader, Comotti added: “It’s the first time I’ll be playing in the final pairing tomorrow, so I’m not sure what to expect. Hopefully, I’ll get a good night’s rest and be prepared for a good day.”

France’s Benjamin Kedochim, 29, moves into 2^nd place after two rounds at the 10^th edition of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. He was tied for 4^th place at 4 under-par after the 1^st round of the tournament but shot a bogey-free round today of 7 under-par, 63 with 7 birdies to move into 2^nd place with a two-day total of 11 under-par. Kedochim has earned numerous top 5 finishes in his career but is still looking to earn his 1^st title as he has never won an Alps Tour tournament. After his round, he commented: “I’m trying to stay focused on what I’m doing, on hitting shot by shot, and for now, I must say it’s working well. I’m playing a lot of tournament golf recently, I’m playing 14 tournaments in 15 weeks so it’s a long stretch of golf.” After his round, Kedochim also talked about how: “the course is in amazing conditions I must say. Today in the morning the greens were even better than yesterday, so I took advantage. You know, when you put together a bogey-free round, it’s always good. I tried to play safe, avoiding bad positions but giving myself the chance to make as many birdies as possible. I missed a few putts today; I could have easily been 9 or 10 under-par but I can’t complain with the day.” Kedochim has been playing well since the beginning of the 2024 season and he explained that: “I’ve been working a lot on my attitude and my behavior and concentrating on hitting one shot at a time and not getting too far ahead of myself. I can say it’s been working in my favor so far. Tomorrow, I plan on hitting every fairway, every green and do my best like always and see what will happen.”

Enrico Di Nitto, 31, from Italy, is 2 strokes off the lead after the 2^nd round of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. He was tied for 4^th place at 4 under-par after the 1^st round of the tournament and now is in a solo 3^rdplace with a two-day total of 10 under-par. He shot a bogey-free round during today’s round 2, for a 6 under-par, 64. Di Nitto is a past winner on the Alps Tour and has achieved various good finishes over the years. At last year’s edition, he concluded the tournament tied for 4th place, and he explained how he thoroughly likes this golf course. After his bogey-free round, he commented on how: “I played very solid today, I must say it was very similar to yesterday’s round. My tee-to-green game was very sharp. Today I was able to make a few more putts compared to yesterday I must say.” Di Nitto went on to add that he found GC La Pinetina, “handled the rain very well, I feel like it’s not necessarily playing any longer than usual, but the ball is flying a bit more compared to the past few years. The greens were amazing this morning, the ball rolled very true, and I found them slightly faster than yesterday.” For tomorrow’s final round, he plans on, “playing my game, shot by shot and hole by hole. I will see after the 18^th hole where that will have taken me.”

The highlights of the day belong to Italy’s Marco Florioli (am), who made a Hole-In-One on the 162 meters, par 3, 17th hole with a 7 iron, and France’s Baptiste Achard, who made a Hole-In-One on the 142 meters, par 3, 5th hole with a 9 iron.

A total of 48 players made the cut which was set at 139 (-1).

The 10th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON begins on Wednesday.

Como, May 6^th, 2024 – After a week off, the tour returns to action in the Northwestern part of Italy this week for the 10^thedition of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. The tournament will be played from May 8^th– 10^th, 2024 at the beautiful Golf Club La Pinetina in Appiano Gentile, near Como, Italy.

This event is named after and dedicated to highly acclaimed golf instructor, Giorgio Bordoni, who unexpectedly passed away in 2013 at the age of 48. He was one of the founders of the Blue Team Golf Academy, a unique and innovative initiative in the world of coaching. He also worked many years for the Italian Golf Federation as a National Coach, earning many accomplishments in his career.

This year, we reach the 10^th edition of the event which has been a consistent stop on the Alps Tour schedule since 2014. In 2020, it was the only year the event wasn’t played due to Covid-19.

The traditional Alps Tour best ball aggregate to Par pro-am will take place on May 7th, with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. local time.

The Field

All of this season’s winners that include: France’s Aymeric Laussot, currently 2^nd in the Order of Merit and winner of this season opener 2024 Ein Bay Open, Spain’s Jose Antonio Sintes Navarro (am), currently 4^th in the standings and winner of the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open, Italy’s Edoardo R Lipparelli, current leader of the Order of Merit and winner of the 2024 New Giza Open and the most recent winner at the 2024 Tunisian Golf Open, Italy’s Gianmaria Rean Trinchero who is 3^rd in the Order of Merit rank will headline a strong field that will compete for the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON title.

Alongside the current season winners, 5 players in the top 10 in the Order of Merit will compete: France’s Benjamin Kedochim, who is in 5^th place, Luca Galliano from Switzerland, who is 7^th in the Order of Merit rank, Italy’s Manfredi Manica, who is in 8^th place, England’s Harry Goddard, who is 9^th in the rank and Austria’s Lukas Lipold rounds out the top 10.

The Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON title has been won by notable players over the years. Spain’s Borja Virto won the first edition of the event in 2014, while his compatriot Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez came to victory in 2019. Another Spanish victory occurred in 2021 with Angel Hidalgo Portillo. Current DP World Tour player Italy’s Guido Migliozzi triumphed in 2018.

In the 2022 edition, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo came to victory with a fabulous 59 in the final round. He became a Challenge Tour player at the end of that season.

During the last edition of the tournament, Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele won the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON by 9 strokes, earning him his second win of the season. The following week, he captured another title, allowing him to gain access to the Challenge Tour, having won three events during the same season.

This week, there will be 144 players competing from 16 different nationalities for the title.

The 144 players in the field will compete for an overall prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON winner will walk away with €5,800.00 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON will be a 54-hole stroke-play event where a cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties. In case of a tie after 54 holes, a sudden-death play-off will determine the winner.

The Course

Golf Club La Pinetina in Appiano Gentile, Italy, is situated 35 km north of Milan and 12 km south of Como, will be the host of this week’s 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. It is a very undulating 5761 meters par 70 course. It was designed by Harris Albertini Mezzalane and opened for play in 1971. It offers beautiful panoramic views of the nearby landscape that includes a view of Monte Rosa, which is the second-highest mountain in Italy, and the Alps of Lombardy.

Golf Club La Pinetina covers 70 hectares in the “Appiano Gentile and Tradate Pinewood Regional Park,” which is rich in pine trees, oak, and chestnut trees as well as Scotch pine and birch trees. It’s not a particularly long course, however the complex course design situated on a very hilly terrain, requires accuracy and precise strategy from each player. Thanks to the natural layout of this golf course, players will find notable holes that will allow this course to stand out from the rest.

The players competing this week will play the course set up as a 5761 meters, Par 70.
