Spain's Erice back in business in Sanremo

Spain’s Pedro Erice, 25 year old, did the best job today on greens. He made the difference with only 23 putts to fire a 64-5-under-par on tricky Sanremo golf course. New names on the podium after one round, France’s Nicolas Porteboeuf and fellow Johan Lopez-Lazaro.

The Sanremo golf club used to welcome great events. In 2006, Senior Tour made a stop in the wonderful town on Mediterranean sea. The venue is new for Alps Tour players and the course seems to be helpful for “golf reborn”. The 3 players on the podium after this first warm round were all in trouble with their swing since the beginning of the year. The leader, Pedro Erice, only made one cut in Morocco. His best season was 2010 with 4 top 5 but ever since he did not confirm.

“I did not change my swing or my way to train. Sometimes in sport and especially in golf, it doesn’t work the way you want. Obviously, I will try to play the same tomorrow.”

France’s Nicolas Porteboeuf has played a few event the past years, he went back to Q school and obtained his card for 2012. Porteboeuf did not made any cut in 2012. Finally, Johan Lopez-Lazaro, member of the French team who won the 2010 world Championship, is really looking forward to justify his status. Expectation in his country are big.
