Red Sea Little Venice Open 2022 – Dutchman Davey Porsius leads after R1
Egypt, February 27, 2022 – After the first round of the Red Sea Little Venice Open 2022 at Sokhna Golf Club (course B+C), Dutchman Davey Porsius, 26 years old, who concluded on 16th place last week during the Ein Bay Open 2022, took the lead thanks to a score of 64, -8.
“It was nice to go early in the morning on the course today. Even if it was a little bit chilly and I had a rusty start on the fron nine, I came out of the gates on the back nine. This configuration of the course (B+C) is easier to me and I think you don’t have to be as aggressive as last week. I hit some really good wedges which gave me the opportunity to hole lots of putts”.
Chasing the first place, one stroke behind, is the French amateur Oihan Guillamoundeguy, only 17 years old, coming directly from the Qualifying School where he gained full category (6). He is at his first appearance in Egypt and today scored a -7 (65) thanks to a bogey free round and 7 birdies (2 on the front nine and 5 on the back nine).
“I’m pretty happy about my game. I had a good rhythm along the round, specially with the driver off the tee. I didn’t hole a lot of putters on the front nine where I made just 2 birdies but from the 10th my short game definitely changed and I managed to score 5 birdies in 9 holes. I made only one mistake with an iron shot but I’m definitely satisfied with the day”.
It was a 3 way-tie for the 3rd place. Italian Federico Livio, Spaniard Manuel Elvira and his compatriot Jacobo Pastor finished their round with -6 (66). Italian Luca Cianchetti, 26, former and defending champion here at Red Sea Little Venice Open 2022, ended his first round with a -5 on the 14th position.
Three amateurs are among the top 30: Frenchmen Tom Vaillant on 16th position with a score of 67 and Nicolas Muller on 26th place with a 68, and Italian Flavio Michetti, 29th with a round in 69 strokes.
Congratulations to Tomas Bessa Guimaraes, 25 years old from Portugal, who made 2 eagles in a row on 17thand 18th which took him to 4 under par for the day.
Tomorrow will be the moving day for the 120 golfers playing this tournament. They will have to try their best to make the cut and compete for the title.
