France keeps the lead in Guadeloupe
Frenchmen Raphael Marguery and Guillaume Cambis took the lead of the Open Saint-François Région Guadeloupe to enter the final round of the tournament at the Golf International Saint-François on Saturday at -5. They’re closely followed by Ivan Cantero Gutierrez (ESP) and Marcus Mohr (ENG) both at one stroke behind.
« Today was tough, tough with the heat, tough with the wind, tough with some pin position quite difficult » Marguery said. « I’m quite happy with the round today, I started really well and obviously I had a good finish, only pars, no birdies. It was a good finish and I’m really looking forward to play tomorrow » he added.
Guillaume Cambis could have been the sole leader of the tournament if he had not finished his round on a bogey.
Marguery is caddied by his fiancée Justine Dreher, a pro player on the LET circuit and Symetra Tour (US). « I’m here to help him enjoy the tournament, play well and stay focused » Dreher said. « I’m not helping him choose clubs, I’m really here to support him. He knows what he is doing and he does need my help to know how to play » she added.
« She plays a lot, she’s got a lot of experience. As a caddy, I use a lot of her advices, it’s a great advantage » Marguery said.
The course was rather difficult with hard greens and a ball difficult to stop. 51 players made the cut set at +7 and will play the final round of the tournament on Saturday.
Weather conditions were sunny with clouds, high winds and temperatures above 30°C.
Final round will tee off on Saturday from both tees 1 and 10 at 8h17 local time.
For the first time, the final round of the Open Saint-François Région Guadeloupe will be shown live starting at 9h40 local time on the Canal Plus Caraibes Facebook page.
