Round 1 Player Quotes

Eemil Alajarvi, 24, from Finland, co-leads after round 1 of the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar with a first-round score of 5 under-par, 65. He has earned numerous top-10 finishes since he began playing on the Alps Tour but is now looking to break through and earn his first win. His best finish was a 2nd place at the 2022 Aravell Golf Open. During today’s round, Alajarvi made a total of 6 birdies and 1 bogey. After his round, Alajarvi commented on how: “It feels good to play well on the first tournament day, but tomorrow is a new day, so I have to be ready tomorrow as well.”  He added that he found: “The course is in very good condition. I played here last year on the Challenge Tour, and then there were some problems with the greens, but now those are now perfect. It plays a bit easier than last year because there is not so deep rough now than last year. On this golf course, there are a couple of difficult holes, but otherwise, the course is quite simple, so I think that the winning score will be in accordance with it.”

Ireland’s Paul McBride, 28, finds himself in the lead alongside Alajarvi after round 1 of the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar. During today’s opening round, he shot a 5 under-par, 65 with 4 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine and 3 birdies on the back nine to end his round. He has earned numerous top 5 finishes since he began playing on the Alps TourMcBride’s best finish so far this season is an 18th place at the 2024 Gösser Open. After his round, McBride was extremely satisfied with the day, “I played very well today. Hit the ball very well which is key around this course, I think. I found this course feels longer than courses we’ve played in recent weeks. I think driving is important this week as you can give yourself a lot of good opportunities from the fairway.” He added that he found that: “playing this morning was good but the weather is the same tomorrow so it will probably even itself out.”When asked about the potential winning score on Friday, McBride commented: “I’m not sure what the winning score will be. It is so difficult to tell as the weather on Friday looks very windy. We will see what happens.”

This week’s competitors are battling for an overall prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The Winner of the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar will earn €5,800.00 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
