Round 1 Player Quotes

French amateur, Nathan Legendre, 22, is in a share of the lead after the opening round of the 2024 Alps de Las Castillas with an unbelievable round of 12 under-par, 60. He made 3 eagles, 7 birdies, and 1 bogey during today’s first round. Legendre was on a 59 watch with three holes to play but nevertheless had a strong finish to today’s round by making a birdie on the 17th hole and an eagle on the 18th hole. Legendre has some good finishes so far this season, including a 3rd place finish at the 2024 Open International de La Mirabelle d’Or. With today’s amazing 12 under-par, 60, Legendre now holds the tournament course record at Golf de Lerma, which was previously set at 8 under-par. After his fabulous round, Legendre was ecstatic: “Today was an incredible round where I drove the ball and putted very well. I made almost no mistakes whatsoever and played the easy holes very well.” He added that he’s been playing well lately and found that the main difference in score comes from a “change of putter that occurred in mid-May. My putting has improved a lot in the last 2 months, and that’s how my scores have significantly improved.” Legendre also took the time to comment about this week’s host, Golf de Lerma“The course is quite short this week, which allows us to have lots of opportunities for birdies. The course is, however, in very good condition, the greens roll very well, and trust me, it’s a pleasure to be able to putt on fast greens this week.”  Legendre is still competing as an amateur, but: “This should be my last tournament. I’m preparing to turn professional this summer.” When asked to describe today’s round with a word, he responded: “accomplishment.”

Amateur Albert Boneta, 22, from Spain, co-leads alongside Legendre after the opening round of the 2024 Alps de Las Castillas with another unbelievable opening round of 12 under-par, 60. He recently graduated in Finance and Psychology at New Mexico University and plans to turn professional later this year. In his first round, Boneta made 2 eagles, 10 birdies, and 2 bogeys. He is continuing his good performance as he concluded last week’s event tied for 5thplace.  After his amazing first-round, Boneta commented on how today, he obviously played well but was “extremely satisfied on how great I putted great on the back 9, I did not get in trouble at all today and holed everything.” He also explained how he found: “This week’s course to be wide from the tee so it is easy not to get in trouble. There are courses that I just get more connected with, and this is one of those. I like how the ball rolls on the greens, and I found it easy to read them.” Boneta also talked about his he had a rough start, he was “+1 after the first 3 holes and then I was able to make a 4 meters putt on the 4th hole and that changed my momentum for the rest of the round. Overall, I must say that I’m playing well lately, I didn’t make any significant changes in my game, just a lot of practice especially on my putting.”
