Final Round Players Quote
Andrea Romano, 24, from Italy, claims his first professional title at the 2025 Alps de Andalucía-Roquetas de Mar. He moved into the lead after the second round of the tournament and concluded today’s final round with an even par, 70 round, finishing the tournament with a three-day total of 12 under-par. He had a steady final round making just 1 birdie on hole 7 and a bogey on hole 17 to secure his first professional victory. Reflecting on the emotional milestone, Romano said: “Today was a special day. My last win, and it was as an amateur, happened in 2019. It was an important amateur event but winning as a professional is something different. My long game held up nicely, but my putting helped me a lot, especially on my front nine holes. I was struggling at the beginning, but thanks to my putter I was able to avoid making bogeys. Unfortunately, my bogey on hole 17 happened, and I was okay with it. To be honest with you, I never checked the leaderboard for the entire day. Walking to 18 tee, I saw I had a one-shot lead even after making the bogey on 17, therefore I decided to play safe and make a par to win my first professional event.” A very emotional Romano added: “This week was strange, I knew where I was and what I was doing, but my mind didn’t want to understand it. It was a bit strange. The past three years have been tough for me on the course, but this win is really special. I still need to process exactly what happened, to be honest. This win is for everyone who stood by me and supported me, especially in the past three years. I also want to dedicate it to the President of the Italian Golf Federation, Franco Chimenti, who passed away, but he always believed in me and never stopped believing in me. Now I want to enjoy the win and try to refocus before the next tournament starts Friday.”
Spain’s Javier Calles Roman, 23, who turned professional in May 2024, and claimed his first professional title at last week’s event in France, concludes this week’s event in 2nd place with a three-day total of 11 under-par. Calles Roman shot a bogey-free final round of 7 under-par, 6,3 making 7 birdies.
