Round 2 Player Quotes

Spain’s Albert Boneta (am), 22, concludes his round 2 of the 2024 Alps de Las Castillas in the lead by 1 stroke. He shot a 6 under-par, 66 in today’s round 2 making 7 birdies and 1 bogey for a two-day total of 18 under-par. In yesterday’s opening round, he shot an incredible 12 under-par, 60 which tied the tournament course record set at Golf Lerma. He recently graduated in Finance and Psychology at New Mexico University and plans to turn professional later this year. After his round, Boneta was satisfied even though: “I’m tired, it’s been such a long day, but I’ve played well all day. I was able to avoid getting in trouble and suffer much and I managed to hole some very good putts.” He added that he believes the “key to my round was on the first hole. I hit a nice tee shot to green but bounced to the bunker, then to green, and I holed it for the first birdie of the round, so that was a good start which allowed me to not be nervous. I must say I wasn’t nervous at all, I just kept playing my game.” Boneta also mentioned that this is only his 3rd time competing in a professional tournament and “of course, I will be nervous. It will be the first time that I tee off in the final round as a leader. I will just do my best and enjoy the day.” Boneta plans on “turning professional later this summer after competing in some amateur events I want to take part in.”

Amateur Nathan Legrendre, 22, from France, is only 1 stroke from the 2nd round lead after day two at the 2024 Alps de Las Castillas. He followed his unbelievable opening round of 12 under-par, 60 with a 5 under-par, 67 in today’s round 2 for a two-day total of 17 under-par. Today, he began his day on hole 10, where he went on to make 1 birdie and 1 bogey. Once he made the turn to the course’s front nine holes, Legendre went on to make 5 birdies which 3 in a row to end his round. Thanks to yesterday’s incredible round of 12 under-par, 60, Legendre now holds the tournament course record at Golf Lerma. After his 2nd round, Legendre was very pleased even though: “The first nine holes I didn’t play very well, I made a lot of mistakes unfortunately. However, on my back nine, I was able to play much more like I did yesterday. My game was more solid, and it was obviously seen in my score. I must admit that I was a bit nervous at the beginning of the round, but it eased off throughout the day.” Legendre is still competing as an amateur this week and is playing on turning professional later this summer. He decided to remain amateur until now, “to have the possibility to be selected by the French National Team to compete in the European Team Championships that are being played this week in Italy. I guess now I can say in the end that it was a good thing that I wasn’t picked.”  He added that: “It’s hard to guess what the winning score will be, I think it could get very low. Tomorrow, I plan on staying as close to the lead as possible from the beginning until the end of the round, and we will see what happens.”
