The first tournament on European soil gets underway in Spain.
Toledo, April 18th 2023- The Alps Tour players head to Spain for the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas, the 1st event of the season that will be played on European soil. The event will be played at the beautiful Palomarejos Golf in Toledo from April 20th-22nd. On April 19th the traditional pro-am will be played with 28 teams. This will be the 11th edition of the tournament even though it is the first time that it will be hosted at this golf course.

The Field

Both of this season past winners and current leaders of the Order of Merit will headline the field at the 2023 Alps de Las CastillasJack Floydd, winner of the 2023 Ein Bay Open and Quim Vidal, winner of the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open.

In addition, all of the players who are currently in the top 10 of the Order of Merit rank except for Marc Sabria, in 8th place, will be competing this week. After the first two events of the season, Spain’s Quim Vidal leads the way with an 801 point advantage over England’s Jack Floydd who has an 1,807.50 point advantage over Netherland’s Davey Porsius, rounding out the top 3 spots.

Another two players to follow this week after their positive start to this season are: Spain’s Manuel Morugán, winner of the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open and Jacobo Pastor, winner of the 2020 Alps de Las Castillas.

Notable players who previously won this event include Victor Perez in 2016 who is now a winner on the DP World Tour.

The 132 players scheduled to compete this week represent 16 different nationalities. The field is made up of 119 professional players and 13 amateurs.

Furthermore, the players will contend for a prize fund of € 40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner of the 11thedition of the Alps de Las Castillas, will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play and a cut will be made after 36 holes.

The Course

Palomarejos Golf will be played as a 5936 meters par 72 course. It is located in a privileged estate in Talavera de la Reina spaning over 160 hectares. The course overlooks the Sierra de Gredos and Montes de Toledo. It was built in 2004 by architect Rubèn Palacios Setvalls.

Palomarejos Golf is a very technical course with obstacles placed in landing areas leading players to reflect upon their strategy as each hole poses a risk, rewarding therefore those who establish a precise strategy.

It has a careful design of the natural environment and five large lakes throughout the course which help create ideal habitats for aquatic animals that together with the flora, favor the development of an important ecosystem.
