3rd February 2020 | Alps Tour Golf
20th season in 2020!
As a non-profit organization, Alps Tour has been raising golf stars since 2001. The new schedule, about to start in Egypt, will offer 18 tournaments in 6 countries and an overall prize money of 760,000 euros, new collaborations and an exciting bonus of 20,000 euros for the player who makes more than 240 birdies during the year.
Paris, February 3rd, 2020 – Here comes an anniversary that we are proud to announce: In 2020, Alps Tour celebrates its 20th season. In fact, it was the year 2001 when four golf federations – France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland – first launched a new European Satellite Tour with one main goal in mind: to provide a testing ground for young players aiming to progress to top levels and gain professional tournament experience, and to create new opportunities and quality competitions for Europe’s next generation of golfing champions.
And indeed, this is what has been happening since: just take a look at the long list of former Alps Tour members who have been shining so brightly on the European Tour, from Englishmen Matt Wallace and Eddie Pepperell to Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts, from Italian Guido Migliozzi to Frenchman Victor Perez, just to name a few: they have won a total of 12 European Tour titles so far!
The European Tour itself acknowledges the important role of Alps Tour and its success in providing high level playing opportunities, by granting 5 Challenge Tour exemptions every year: so we’re expecting to add more rewards to the list of talented “young guns” who have climbed that step at the end of 2019 and will soon make their debut on the Challenge Tour.
That’s why we like to play with our claim, “Rising Golf Stars”, which perfectly fits our players, by adding an “a” and turn it into “Raising Golf Stars”, which is what Alps Tour has been doing since its inception, as a non-profit organization – that is, Alps Tour exists not to make money, but for the sake of growing a quality professional game with the backing from national golf federations and governing bodies of host countries.
Now the 20th season is about to start and Egypt will be, once again, the guest nation for the opening of a new, promising year, with the Ein Bay Open taking place at Sokhna Golf Club for the 8th year (February 18-20), followed by the Red Sea Little Venice Open (February 23-25). With around 200 players from 26 different nationalities, 18 tournaments in 6 countries and an overall prize fund of 760,000 Euros, the race to the top of the Order of Merit will be more exciting than ever.
Alps Tour cares about its members and it shows so by trying to improve its services every year. The new cooperation with MENA Tour by Arena falls into this category, as the Alps Tour leading 5 players from the 2019 Alps Tour Final Order of Merit (up to Top 10 and not otherwise exempt) are eligible to play the full season on the MENA Tour by Arena 2020. In return, the five top players from the 2020 Journey to Jordan on the MENA Tour (up to Top 15) will earn full playing rights on Alps Tour for the 2020 season. This cooperation gives more opportunities to Alps Tour’s best players to compete on great golf courses with great players and help the MENA talented players to climb up the European ladder.
Moreover, a new cooperation between the Alps Tour and Spider Golf, the company which has developed a golf statistics app that covers statistical analysis, personalised coaching and trainings, course management strategy and social community, was announced last December: Alps Tour members will receive a special discount for the premium version.
Last, but certainly not least, this news will appeal to all members and will spur them on even more to give their best: the player who first achieves 240 birdies (or better) during the 2020 tournaments, will gain a bonus of 20,000 euros!
Finally, Alps Tour is pleased to welcome a new addition to its team headed by Chief Executive and Operations Director Estelle Richard: Italian Sveva Greco, International Golf referee who has recently been confirmed for the 2nd time to attend the women’s golf event at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, will be flanking Alessandro Pia as a tournament director during the season.
