After his victory, he was very emotional: “I couldn’t have wished for anything better than this. I fought hard today and throughout the entire event. I was looking for this victory for over a year. It’s been a goal of mine to win an Alps Tour event for over a year and to be able to do it today, I’m speechless. I lost my dad a couple of years back, and this one is definitely for him and for my family around me. I’m so grateful to have the people that I have around me, my staff, my friends so this one is for them and for myself. I give all of them credit but also myself. I now have Stage 2 of Q-School and hopefully, I will be able to repeat the same thing there but we will see how it goes. Now I will enjoy it and take a few days off.”

Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney wins the 2023 Alps Tour Order of Merit rank and earns one of the coveted 2024 Challenge Tourcards that was up for grabs. Throughout the season, he won two events, one in Austria and one in France. After Mullarney secured his Order of Merit title he commented: “Absolutely this was one of my goals from the beginning of the year. As much as it is great being on the Alps Tour, tons of nice people, I’m glad to be off the Alps Tour and move on to the next step. I was happy with my golf this year, I feel ready to compete there. I was able to play a few Challenge Tour events before and I was able to step up my game so now I’m ready.” When asked about his experience playing on the Alps Tour he added: “The standard of the Alps Tour is extremely high. The courses are great, and it’s a good test of your game.” Tournament PromoterThe 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting is promoted directly by the Alps Tour.

Final Round Player Quotes

Ronan Mullarney, 28 years old from Ireland, captures his second win of the season at the 2023 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open after three rounds without a single bogey and a 9-shot margin! He shot a final round of 5 under-par, 66 with 5 birdies. He turned professional in 2019 and won his 1st full-field professional event at the 31st Gösser Open earlier this year. This is his 1st full playing season on the Alps Tour and after today’s win, he became the new Order of Merit leader heading into the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final. After his 3rd bogey-free round, which sealed his win, Mullarney commented, “I’m delighted. It was good, it might not have looked stressful but trust me, it was extremely stressful. Today was by far the best I’ve played. The first 2 rounds, my short game saved me, but today I was very comfortable and I played well.”  He looked very comfortable on the golf course but Mullarney thought differently, “I might have looked very in control but there are so many stories of people throwing away leads that it’s never hugely comfortable.” After his fabulous week, he secured his Challenge Tour card for the 2024 season, which was a big priority for him, “Yeah, securing my card for the Challenge Tour was a big goal of mine. It’s my 3rd year as a pro and my 1st year on the Alps Tour so definitely things this year have gone a lot smoother than the 1st few years, so I supposed it’s part of the learning process.” Mullarney heads into the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final, 1st in the Order of Merit rank, and knowing he has his card secured, however, “I’m really competitive, I’m definitely will be heading to Asolo Golf Club trying to grab another trophy. I’ll be playing a pro-am in Spain next week and then will prepare for the Final.”

Thirty-year-old, Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto who represents Olgiata Golf Club, shot an incredible 6 under-par, 65 final round for a three-day total of 7 under-par to conclude the tournament in a tie for 2nd place. He made 6 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine and 1 birdie on the back to conclude his round. Prior to this tournament, he was 16th in the Alps Tour Order of Merit rank. After his final round, Di Nitto commented on how: “Yesterday I was playing well and then I hit two really bad shots out of nowhere, and after the round, I took time to reflect on what happened. Today I began the round really determined, and the first 3 birdies definitely helped put a good round together. My irons shots were perfect today, which makes me really happy.” Di Nittobecame a multiple winner on the Alps Tour before he was able to move up to the Challenge Tour in 2016 thanks to the results he had achieved on the Alps Tour. His priority is, “obviously to get back my playing status on the Challenge Tour. Hopefully, I will be able to achieve it this season. I had some issues mid-season, I missed a few cuts, and my attitude wasn’t great. I was going back and forth between deciding if I was going to play the Alps Tour or the Challenge Tour until the very last. I decided it was best to focus on the Alps Tour and have some good results which would allow me to move back up.”

Manfredi Manica
from Italy, who won his 1st professional title at the 2023 Aravell Golf Open by Creand concluded the tournament tied in 2nd place with Di Nitto at -7 under-par. He is 27 years old, turned professional at the end of 2021, and currently represents Golf Nazionale. He shot a final round of 2 over-par, 73 with 5 bogeys and 3 birdies.

He began today’s round on the 10th hole, where he made 1 birdie, then on the front nine he made 4 birdies and an eagle on the par 5 9th hole, his 18th of the day. Mullarney is already a winner this season as he captured the 31st edition of the Gösser Open and finds himself in 3rd place in the current Order of Merit standings. He turned professional in 2019, and this is his 1st full year on the Alps Tour. After his 2nd bogey-free round, Mullarney commented, “my short game was very good today, my long game was ok, but honestly, nothing really stood out. I’ve been working really hard on my putting, chipping, and wedge play, so it feels good. It added up to a good score, but it definitely didn’t feel as tidy as maybe it looked but I’m very happy.” He found that, “it’s really tricky out there, to be honest, there is a lot of concentration going on. I tend to play better on those types of courses so there is a lot of things to be thinking about it I will focus on the golf, and I’ll worry about the rest later as I don’t have time for it.” When asked about competing in a mixed event with the LETAS, Mullarney acknowledged that, “It’s nice, we are not really mixed so it doesn’t really feel we are in the same exact tournament, but it’s nice. This is the best tournament we’ve played the whole year by far, the organization and everything that goes in it is brilliant here. It’s probably the best golf course also, for sure one of them.” Looking ahead to the final round tomorrow, Mullarney said, “To win, I have to be one shot better than the next person. That’s it.”

Italy’s Manfredi Manica shot a 4 under-par, 67 today for a two-day total of 9 under-par and be in 2nd place entering tomorrow’s final round. He captured his 1st professional win at the 2023 Aravell Golf Open by Creand. Manica is 27 years old, turned professional at the end of 2021, and currently represents Golf NazionaleAfter his round, Manica commented:“there definitely was more wind today, I had a slow start today, a bogey on the 2nd hole, which doesn’t help. I tried to get in the rhythm of things and had a great finish. It could have been an even better one, but I’m in a great position to battle for it tomorrow.” He’s 11th in the Order of Merit rank and is looking to make a final move, “I would be lying if I said I’m not thinking about the Order of Merit, but let’s worry about that tomorrow. There is a lot of golf left, the front nine and some accurate tee shots will be crucial in putting a good round together.”

Netherland’s Davey Porsius, 28 years old, is in 3rd place at 7 under-par and 4 strokes off the lead. He shot a second round of 5 under-par, 65 with 6 birdies and 1 bogey. After his 5 under-par he commented on how, “I had a rough start to the tournament with my putting, I was struggling a lot but found something which is now working, and today I made a lot of really good long-range putts.” When asked about if playing in the morning was more favorable, he added that, “The last three holes, the wind picked up and was swirling, so I think it was good to play this morning with no wind. Yesterday, the afternoon was calm, so you never know what can happen. I will try and do my best tomorrow, stick to my game plan, and see what will after on the 18th hole.”

LETAS

In the LET Access Series event, Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar, 29 years old, keeps her lead after two rounds. She has a two-day total of 10 under-par.

After her round, Pogacar commented, “Today was amazing, I had a little slower start as it was windy and felt different. There weren’t many nerves at the end when I knew I could lead again, I just really looked forward to some birdies because I had some opportunities already before the last four holes. Tomorrow, let’s play some golf.”

Round 1 Player Quotes

Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, 27 years old leads by 2 strokes after his great 1st round at the 2023 Fred.Olsen Alps de La Gomera. He shot a bogey-free, 9 under-par opening round. He currently sits in 2nd place in the Order of Merit Rank and captured his 1st full-field professional win at the 2023 Gösser Open which took place in May. He previously had played in some events in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic began but this is his 1st full year on the Alps Tour. Mullarney turned professional in 2019 and competed in the 2022 Open Championship. After his performance, he commented: “I’m very pleased, I played nice and putted quite well. Today I was able to birdie a lot of the par 5s and one eagle which definitely helped. The course is nice, the practice putting green is different than the course so it took a little while to get used to while I got out there.” He added that he’s “usually fairly aggressive off the tees hitting a lot of drivers, and I plan to keep doing that the next two rounds and hopefully I keep putting well.”

Kevin Hesbois from Belgium, 32 years old who currently represents Ternesse Golf & Country Club, concluded his 1st round with a 7 under-par, 64 and is one of the three players tied for 2nd place only 2 strokes back. He made 1 eagle, 6 birdies and 1 bogey during his opening round. After his round, Hesbois commented on how well he played, Today was fun and I obviously played well all day. On the front nine, I hit it close a couple times which helped create the momentum for the round. I was able to finish strong as well which is always nice when you have it going low.” Hesbois went on to add that: “course is really good. Conditions are good and promote low scoring. Wind was a small factor. The warmth was harder to manage. I have no real expectations this week. Just going to keep focusing on the right things. Only goal is to give myself as many birdie chances as possible and stay as patient as possible. Scores will take care of themselves.”

Netherland’s Bob Geurts, 24 years old is the second player tied for 2nd place with a first-round score of 7 under-par. He turned professional towards the end of last year and prior to this week, his best finishes were a tie for 11th place at the 2023 Gösser Open and at the 2023 Croara Alps Open. During today’s round, he made 1 eagle, 4 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine and 1 bogey and 3 birdies on the back nine for a 64. After his round, Geurts was happy that he “hit the ball great and put myself in good spots to make birdies. It was a really solid day of golf. I tried to keep it simple and put a good round together.” He also commented that Tecina Golf “is great, it’s a relaxing and nice course. I love the layout and the fact that there wasn’t a lot of wind today was very fortunate.”

Twenty-six years old, Davide Buchi from Italy is the third player tied for 2nd place after his opening bogey- free 7 under-par, 64. He currently represents Golf Club Varese and has gathered a couple of top 20 finishes so far this season. Buchi began his round with 2 birdies and an unbelievable albatross on the par 5, 3rd hole in his first four holes. After his bogey-free round, Buchi happily commented that “I hit a great iron shot but I’d never thought that it would go in. It’s my first albatross of my career. It for sure gave me good momentum for the remaining of the round. I want to keep thinking about my own game and keep playing well like today. The course is in excellent conditions and the rough isn’t too high, therefor we will be able to go low.”

In the 3-way tie for 5th place at 6 under-par: France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy, Ireland’s Michael Young and Spanish amateur Jose Antonio Sintes Navarro.

The highlight of the day belongs to Italy’s Davide Buchi who made an incredible albatross on the 500 meters par 5, 3rd hole.

A typical sunny spring day with blue skies and warm temperatures on the border between the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna Region welcomed the players for the first round of the 2023 Croara Alps Open played at Croara Country Club near Piacenza, Italy. Play began at 7:30 am this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole. The forecast for the remainder of the week is expected to be very similar to today which will allow players to have optimal scoring conditions.

This is the first time that Croara Country Club is hosting an Alps Tour event. Players are subject to the new course and its subsequent new conditions. After Saturday’s final round, we will have an inaugural winner for this event.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Ludovico Addabbo from Italy who concluded last week’s event in France tied for 7th place with a poor finish, has a 1 stroke lead after the 1st round of the 2023 Croara Alps Open.  He turned professional in the early part of 2020, is 24 years old and represents Castelgandolfo Golf and Country Club. During today’s round, he made 3 bogeys, 2 eagles and 6 birdies for a 7 under-par,64. He had a very strong finish making an eagle on his 18th hole of the day, the actual 9th hole. After his round, Addabbo was ecstatic, “Today was a great day, I made a lot of birdies, 2 eagles and unfortunately 3 bogeys but I cannot be disappointed. My putter was definitely on my side today, I’ve had some issues with it in the past but today was not the case. After today’s round I hope now have a good relationship with my putter.” He added that he believes “the course is in good shape, you must hit it straight, very similar to last week in France but luckily this week it’s not as punitive.” He feels that he’s been playing well for a while now and now that the putter is finally on his side, “I feel I have some good golf coming. Tomorrow I won’t focus on anything specific, I will just try to hit as many fairways and greens as possible to give myself the most birdie chances. I will also try to stay calm and focused. The most important is to give myself chances and enjoy the moment. Every hole is a new birdies opportunity and I look forward too many more tomorrow.”

Italy’s Edoardo Giletta who represents Golf Biella Le Betulle is in a two-way tie for 2nd place at the conclusion of the 1stround at the inaugural 2023 Croara Alps Open. He shot a 6 under-par, 65 opening round with 3 birdies on his front nine and 2 bogeys, 1 eagle and 3 birdies to conclude his round. When he signed his card, Giletta commented on how “I was really consistent today in my game and didn’t make too many mistakes. I putted very well, I found a good rhythm pretty quickly so it was good to get going and get a good round in.”  He went on to add that he ended his round with “two silly bogeys, one was a three-putt and the other was just a bad shot and couldn’t recover but I was able to stay calm and focused on the upcoming holes which I was able to have a birdie-birdie finish.”  When asked about his perspective into tomorrow, he explained: “I will try to stay as calm as possible and play shot by shot and hole by hole without getting too far ahead of myself. I’m pretty confident in my game especially after today’s round. Now I will go and do a light practice to keep the feel going.”

Lars Keunen from Netherland concluded his first round at the 2023 Croara Alps Open with a bogey-free 6 under-par, 65 to be the second player in the two-way tie for 2nd place. He is 26 years old and represents The Dutch Golf Club. He currently is in 8th place in the Order of Merit rank and has been consistently near the top of the leaderboards in the majority of this seasons event. After another great bogey-free round, Keunen commented, “My round was very solid. I didn’t have to make too many putts for par and gave myself a lot of birdie chances.” When enquired about his perspective for the week, “I will try to keep doing the same things and play one shot at a time. I think I just have to stay patient with my game and trust that I’m working on the right things and that results are coming.” This is the first time that Croara Country Club hosts an Alps Tour event and Keunen found “the course is very nice but I believe to play well, you have to hit some good tee-shots and must be able to shape the ball a little.”

There is a 5-way tie for 4th place at 5-under par that includes: Swiss Luca Galliano, Spain’s Quim Vidal, Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto and France’s Benjamin Kedochim.

Italy’s Elia Dallanegra (am) and Luca Castelli had the highlights of the opening round making a hole-in-one and an albatross. Dallanegra (am) made a hole-in one on the par 3, 16th hole with a 9-iron from 132 meters. While, Castelli made an albatross on the par 4, 15th hole holing out his driver

A three-way tie for the lead after Round 1 at the 20th Open de La Mirabelle d’Or.
Metz, June 2nd 2023- After round 1 at the 20th Open de La Mirabelle d’Or, we have a three-way tie for the lead with a 3 under-par, 67 that includes: Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Spain’s Inigo Lopez- Pizarro and Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney. Tied for 4th place only 1 stroke back, Swiss Luca Galliano, France’s Nicolas Aparicio and Paul Margolis and Ireland’s Paul McBride.

A beautiful sunny day with clear skies and a pleasant temperature with a high around 24°C welcomed the 144 players in the Northeastern Grand Est Region near Metz, France for the first round of the 2023 Open de La Mirabelle d’Or. The tournament is being played at Golf Domaine de la Grange aux Ormes and began from both the 1st and 10th hole. This is the 20th edition of the tournament and has been part of the Alps Tour schedule since 2005. For the remainder of the week the weather is forecasted to be very similar to today.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Netherland’s Lars Keunen who is currently 10th in the Order of Merit rank, shot an opening round of 3 under-par 67 with 1 eagle, 4 birdies and 3 bogeys. He heads into round 2 in a three-way tied for the lead at 3 under-par. He is 26 years old and represents The Dutch Golf Club. After his round, Keunen commented how “today was a good round, the course is playing very difficult so my main goal was just to get myself in play of the tee on every hole. I actually didn’t hit a single driver or 3-wood during my entire round.”  In the last few events, even though he has had some positive finishes including tying for 17th place last week in Italy he feels his “game and swing haven’t been the best lately but I feel like it’s starting to come together again which I’m pleased.” Obviously, for the next two days, “my plan is to keep getting myself in play off the tee and be patient that some birdies will come!”

Spain’s Inigo Lopez- Pizzaro who represents Club de Golf Val de Rois is also tied for the lead at 3 under-par. He made 1 eagle, 4 birdies and 3 bogeys during his first round. He is playing his 3rd Alps Tour event of the season following the first two events in Egypt. After his round, he was very happy about today and commented on how “I wasn’t playing well but during the practice round I kept hitting draws so I kept that feeling into the round today and it worked well. I played solid without making many mistakes.”  He went on to add that, “yesterday I played with my friend Mario and we planned to not play too aggressive due to the very high rough. I planned to hit a lot of irons off the tee to make sure I stayed in play and then hit it on the green to give myself good birdie chances which I was able to take advantage today. I’m very happy with the result.”

Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney who is 27 years old and captured his 1st full-field professional win at the 2023 Gösser Open which took place in May, is the third-player tied for the lead at 3 under-par. He shot a 3 under-par 67 with 6 birdies and 3 bogeys. He turned professional in 2019 and competed in the 2022 Open Championship. After his round, Mullarney commented: “the rough is extremely long, the goal was to keep it out of there. I hit everything from an 8-iron to a 5-iron off the tee and only a couple of drivers which is strange for me as I usually rely on my driver the majority of the time. I’m relying on my short game but the real challenge this week is keeping the ball in play. It’s very firm, it’s playing very similar to a links course like home. I’m very happy with the way I played and I will try to stay as patient as possible out there the next two days as a lot of funny bounces and unusal things can happen.”

The second round began yesterday at 3:00pm but at 7:30pm, Tournament Director Alessandro Pia, suspended play due to darkness. The last 18 holes resumed today at 8:00 am still under an unceasing rain fall and cold weather.

He shot an 8 under-par 64 in this first round and a 4 under-par 68 in round 2 for a two-day total of 12 under-par. He previously had played in some events in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic began but this is his 1st full year on the Alps Tour. Ronan turned professional in 2019 and competed in the 2022 Open Championship. After his victory, he was very pleased, “It was a difficult 36 holes, in these conditions. Trying to keep the umbrella up and down and keeping my bag as dry as possible, a lot of things to happening on top of the golf that has to be played. Being from Ireland and having grown up into these conditions probably helped me. I can assure you that no one likes playing in these conditions but I might have slightly more experience than the rest of the guys.”  Ronan went on to add: “I’m delighted to have won this event but it won’t mean a lot to me unless I’m able to end the season in the top 5 at the end of the year.”

Gianmaria Rean Trinchero from Italy who currently represents Golf Club Monticello concluded the tournament in 2nd place at 8-under par. After his round, Gianmaria happily commented: “today was another very wet round of golf, unfortunately, I got the bad side of the draw where we got hit with the heaviest rain but I’m pleased as I played pretty well from tee to green and putted very well.” He went on to add that “I’m very happy because I didn’t make any silly mistakes that allowed me to not make many bogeys. I would like to thank my caddy for the support this week on all the on-course decisions we made together and allowed me to not make silly errors”. Gianmaria also said: “My objectives for the year won’t change, I obviously would like to finish the season in the top 5 of the Order of Merit rank.”

Austria’s Timon Baltl who represents Murhof Golf Club and previously won the Gösser Open in 2019, concluded the tournament in 3rd place with a two-day score of 7 under-par. He captured his Challenge Tour card in 2020 thanks to the results he achieved on the Alps Tour in the 2019 season. Timon concluded the event as the highest Austrian player on the leaderboard. After the round, he commented “I played a lot of golf at this golf course since it’s very close to where I was born. I played various junior events growing up as well as the Gösser Open for so many years. It really helps to know the course inside and out especially as I know the greens well and they can be tricky. I stayed in Graz at my dad’s house this week which is what I believe one of the reasons that allowed me to play well.”   Timon believed his key this week was to “stay calm and patient especially with the weather conditions we had and also because the course was really wet. It would have been easy to get frustrated but I’m glad I was able to remain patient throughout the week.”

At the conclusion of the 31st Gösser Open, Spain’s Quim Vidal still leads the current Order of Merit standings. Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney jumped into 2nd place with his win today. In 3rd place Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele and in 4th place France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy. England’s Jack Floydd rounds out the top 5.
