A French duo leads after Round 1 at the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand
Aravell, June 27th, 2024- France’s Paul Margolis and Benjamin Kedochim co-lead after the 1st round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. with a 7 under-par, 64. In a two-way tie for 3rd place another French duo: Antoine Santarelli and Baptiste Achard only 1 stroke back at 6 under-par.
The first round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand, played at Aravell Golf & Country Club, located near Aravell, Lleida, Spain, began this morning at 8:00 a.m. local time from holes 1 and 10.
This year, we are celebrating the 3rd edition of the tournament, which was established to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the host golf club, Aravell Golf & Country Club, which was designed by the two-time Masters Champion Jose Maria Olazábal.
France’s Benjamin Kedochim, 29, co-leads alongside Margolis after the opening round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. He shot an opening round with 10 birdies and 3 bogeys for a 7 under-par. 64 round. During today’s opening round, Kedochim was paired alongside the other co-leader, Margolis, and they enjoyed their round together: “I played with Paul Margolis today, and I’ve played with him in the past, and I must say every time we play together we play well so playing with him today was fun. Brandon Kewalramani was with us, I never played with him before, but it was a fun round overall for all of us. It’s always enjoyable to play golf while you’re having fun, and good scores are a bonus.” Kedochim is the current Order of Merit leader, and he commented that he “isn’t focusing on the order of merit, I’m just focusing on playing my own game like every time. I am doing my best each day and putting a good round together. The rest will take care of itself.” He believes the only real mistake he made today was on the 6th hole where he “3-putted. The other 2 bogeys I made today I guess I can say I deserved them but I do regret the 3-putt on hole 6 as I hit the green and should’ve two-putted. That’s the only negative aspect of today’s round.”
Alongside Santarelli in the two-way tie for 3rd place with a first-round score of 6 under-par, 65, fellow French player Baptiste Achard, 26. During his opening round, he made 5 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine holes and then added 4 more birdies and 2 bogeys on the back nine to end his day. Once he concluded his first round, Achard was satisfied with how his day went as he: “made a lot of putts today. I’m extremely satisfied with my putting today. Overall, it was a good day of golf and I made a lot of birdies, I believe 9 in total. For the next two rounds, I want to stay really focused on my game and my strategy but also be very patient with myself. There is a lot of golf left to be played.”
Théo Boulet, 21, from France, is in a 6-way tie for 5th place at the conclusion of the 1st round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. He shot a 4 under-par, 67 round today, making 7 birdies and 3 bogeys. Boulet earned his 1stprofessional win at our most recent tournament, the 21st Open International de la Mirabelle d’Or. After his round, Boulet commented on how: “My driving was a little less efficient, but luckily, it didn’t penalize me. My strategy, my way of approaching the course, and my putting were very good today. I think it’s the real important part of my game, and that’s what made the difference during the round.” He added that he found: “the conditions were good today. I played in the morning wave, and there was no wind. However, it was very hot, and I think that the heat will play an important role during this tournament, especially on a physical level.”
A past winner on the Alps Tour, France’s Franck Médale, 29, is also in the 6-way tie for 5th place after the opening round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. He teed off on hole 10 today, where he went on to make 1 eagle and 1 birdie on his opening nine holes. Once he made the turn, he made 3 more birdies and 2 bogeys to finish the day. Médale has had a rough start to the 2024 season, but after his first round, he commented: “I worked with my staff on making the game simpler and more fun. I’m enjoying myself much more on the course now, and I’m looking forward to playing the rest of the season.”
Alongside Boulet and Médale in the 6-way tie for 5thplace after the first round there is: France’s Adrien Bonnet and amateur Nathan Legrendre, as well as Spain’s Anton Vazquez Muinos and Asier Aguirre Izcue.The 144 players in this week’s event are battling it out for an overall prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand winner will walk away with €5,800.00 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
The 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand will be a 54-hole stroke-play, 18-hole-a-day event where a cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties. In case of a tie after 54 holes, a sudden-death play-off will determine the winner.

The second round of the 2024 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand will begin again at 8:00 a.m. local time from the 1st and 10th hole.

Paul Margolis and Andrea Romano are co-leading after round 1 of the 2024 Gösser Open.
The event began in 1993 at Steiermärkischer Golf Club Murhof and in 2000 it moved to Golf Club Erzherzog Johann, which became its permanent host. Just a year later in 2001, when the Alps Tour was founded, the Gösser Open became part of the Alps Tour schedule, and has been a regular event since.
Round 1 Player Quotes
Paul Margolis, 24, from France, who has won on the Alps Tour as an amateur in 2021, co-leads after the 1st round of the 2024 Gösser Open with a bogey-free round of 6 under-par, 66. He turned professional at the end of 2021 and has earned various top-10 finishes since. Margolis began his day on the hole 10 where he went on to make a birdie, he then made another birdie on the 12th, 13th and 16th hole before making the turn and adding another birdie on the 1st and 7th hole to conclude the round. After his round, Margolis commented on how, “I played really good golf today. I was really good off the tee, I think I hit every fairway so that made it a lot easier. My putting was also very good. The greens are in perfect condition.” The weather forecast wasn’t promising for today’s round and Margolis added that he found, “the conditions to be good, I was expecting harder weather conditions than what we had. The course is holding it nice. When I woke this morning and saw the rain, I was expecting we were only going to play 9 holes, but it was actually fine.” Looking ahead to the remaining two rounds, he plans on, “I’m going to rest now, hit a few putts and some shots, but most importantly, rest. I know it’s going to be a long day tomorrow; they are forecasting some heavy rain tonight, so we might have a delay tomorrow, but we will see. I think rest will be crucial to find myself in position on Saturday.”
Italy’s Andrea Romano, 23, finds himself in the lead alongside Margolis after round 1 of the 2024 Gösser Open. During today’s opening round, he shot a bogey-free round of 6 under-par, 66 with 1 birdie on the front nine and 5 birdies on the back nine. He has earned numerous top-10 finishes since he began playing on the Alps Tour but is now looking to break through and earn his first win. After his round, Romano was extremely satisfied with the day, “6 under-par with no bogey makes me very happy. My game is very solid, and today, my putting was very strong. I started on the front nine where I made a lot of pars and only 1 birdie. However, on the back nine, I made 4 birdies in a row, and then on the 16th hole I made an important putt to get to -6. Then, on the 17th and 18th hole, I made some nice recovery shots for par that makes me pleased. This score puts me in a good position for the rest of the tournament.”

Italian amateur, Marco Florioli, 19, is in a 7-way tie for 3rd place at the conclusion of the 1st round of the 2024 Gösser Open alongside: Maximilian Steinlechner, Enrico Di Nitto, Davide Buchi, Xavier Poncelet, Lukas Nemecz and Augustin Holé. He shot a 5 under-par, 67 round today making 3 birdies on the front nine holes and then made 1 bogey and 3 birdies on the back nine. His best finish so far this season was a tie for 18th place at the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open. Once his completed his day, Florioli explained how today, “my game was very sharp today, I could have holed a few more putts than what I did but I found the greens to be quite tough as there is a lot of grain on them. I will try to make a few more putts during tomorrow’s round. I will use the same strategy and we will see how it goes.”
Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner, 24, is the 2nd place in the 7-way tie for 3rd place with a bogey-free, 5 under-par, 67 after round 1 of the 2024 Gösser Open. In today’s opening round, he began his day with 3 birdies in a row that included a chip-in on the 2nd hole. He went on to make 2 more birdies on the front nine before having all pars on the back nine to conclude the day. Steinlechner mainly plays on the Challenge Tour, but nonetheless, he was very excited to be able to compete this week in his home country, “it’s always important to play tournaments, it doesn’t matter where you play, but tournaments are tournaments, and you always want to do well in any event you play in. So far this year, I’ve played 3 Challenge Tour events, 2 Pro Golf Tours, and this week here on the Alps Tour.” After his opening round, he commented on how: “It was for sure a good start to the tournament here. I played really well on the front nine, but I must say I had a little bit of luck. I chipped in on the 2nd hole, and then I hit the pin on 10. It was a mix of solid play and some luck on my side that’s for sure, but I’m very happy.” When asked about playing in his home country, he added, “it’s always nice playing at home, I’ve played this event twice as an amateur and you know you see familiar faces and you are familiar with the courses.” With today’s weather conditions, he found that: “it was chillier, and the ball definitely didn’t fly as far. The course is also wet, so you must judge the reaction on the greens.”
Alongside Florioli (am) and Steinlechner, who shot a first-round score of 5 under par, 67, are Italy’s Enrico Di Nittoand Davide Buchi, France’s Xavier Poncelet and Augustin Holé, and Lukas Nemecz from Austria.

Benjamin Kedochim leads after Round 1 at the 2024 New Giza Open.
The first round of the third and final tournament of the 2024 Winter Series, the 2024 New Giza Golf Club, played at the breathtaking New Giza Golf Club in Egypt’s capital, Cairo began this morning at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole.
The Alps Tour debuted at New Giza Golf Club in March 2019, and the inaugural event was won by Italy’s Lorenzo Scalise, who now plays regularly on the DP World Tour.
Players had favorable weather conditions today, allowing them the opportunity to take advantage of good scoring opportunities. The forecast for the remainder of the week is expected to remain very similar to today’s round, with blue skies, temperatures that could reach 28° Celsius and some moderate winds are forecasted especially during the afternoon.
Benjamin Kedochim, 29, from France leads after the first round of the 2024 New Giza Open with a bogey-free, 6 under-par, 66. He teed off on the 10th hole where he made 2 birdies, after making the turn, he went on to make 4 more birdies to conclude his day. Kedochim has earned a number of top 5 finishes in his career but is looking to capture his 1st title on the Alps Tour. After his bogey-free round, Kedochim explained that he is, “pretty pleased with today especially as I finished with two birdies on hole 8 and 9 to lead by 1 shot. I made a 5-meter putt on both holes to make the birdies and it’s always nice to finish on a good note. It was very windy for 15 holes which made it tricker.” He plans on“staying focused like I did today for the remaining 2 rounds because when it’s windy, you need to be focused on the safe zones, especially on the greens as the greens are big this week so it’s easy to find yourself with very long putts with a lot of break and the wind that will make it very difficult. It’s very important to miss it on the correct side of the course and I don’t want to be too aggressive either.” Kedochim also “never focus on only one aspect of my game, I tried to stay focused on each shot and always give it my best. It’s easy to lose concentration and bogey so it’s crucial to always be present and concentrated.”
France’s Paul Margolis, 24, is in a 7-way tie for 2nd place after the first round of the 2024 New Giza Open. Margolis has earned various Top 10 finishes throughout the years and captured his first win on the Alps Tour in 2021 as an amateur player. Beyond earning his first title in 2021, he turned professional later that year.
Borja Martin, 24, from Spain, is also in the 7-way tie for 2nd place after round 1 of the 2024 New Giza Open with a score of 5 under-par. He made 7 birdies and 2 bogeys throughout his day for a total score of 67. Martin captured numerous top finishes on the Alps Tour, and his most recent one is an 8th place finish at the season-opening, 2024 Ein Bay Open. This is his third season competing as a professional player. After his round, Martin commented that today, “my game felt good, I had a great front nine and then on the back nine I made 2 bogeys on the par 5s without doing much wrong, but it was overall a good day.” He teed off in the morning wave for today’s first round and he “think the scores will probably be better in the morning today compared to the afternoon. We didn’t have much wind on the front nine, but it picked up for the back side even if it’s not as strong as it’ll probably be in the afternoon. The wind definitely makes it tougher out here.” Martin plans to, “take one day at a time and keep doing my own thing. Hopefully, I can take advantage of the par 5s tomorrow and stay on top.”
England’s Arron Edwards-Hill, 24, shot a 5 under-par,67 in today’s first round to be in the 7-way tie for 2nd place at the 2024 New Giza Open. During today’s round, he made 2 birdies on the front nine and 4 birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine. This is his first full year of playing as a professional golf player since he turned professional at the end of 2023, “It’s my first season on the Alps Tour so I wasn’t sure what to expect but the events are run great, and being able to compete here with great weather is very fortunate.” After he concluded his 5-under-par round, Edwards-Hill commented: “it was solid golf today, 16 greens today so loads of chances inside 10-15 feet held a nice 35-footer down the slope on the par 3 4th to get the birdies on the board.” He added that: “there wasn’t much wind this morning on the front nine. You could be aggressive with your wedges and short iron, which, on the front nine, there is a lot. It picked up on the back nine, making it trickier, especially as I played the par 5s into the wind, so I definitely think it was a slight advantage being able to tee off with no wind.”
A past winner on the Alps Tour, France’s Damien Perrier, 34 is the fourth player tied for 2nd place at 5 under-par after round 1 of the 2024 New Giza Open. He shot a bogey-free round with 2 birdies on the front nine and 3 birdies on the back nine to conclude his round. After his round, Perrier proudly commented: “It was a good round of golf today. A bogey-free round with 13 pars and 5 birdies on this golf course is really good. I definitely would have signed for it if someone asked me ahead of the round. The course isn’t easy with the set up because it’s playing very long. It’s challenging, and we had some wind alright this morning, making it trickier.” He added that he: “struggled with a few shots at the beginning of the round, but my putter saved me on a few occasions with some important pars. I had 6 birdie opportunities in the last 6 holes, which I unfortunately didn’t make, so it could have been a few shots lower. I’m slightly frustrated with the way my scorecard ended, but looking at it in perspective, I’m quite happy.” He earned numerous top 10 finishes and won on the Alps Tour in 2009 at the Open International de Normandie, “I played many seasons on the Alps Tour, it is a tour I know well, and it challenges myself at 34 years old after losing my Challenge Tour status. It would have been easier to quit the game of golf, but I didn’t want to do that. I feel my game is still in a good spot and I want to go back on the main tour.”
Tied for 2nd place alongside Margolis, Martin, Edwards-Hill and Perrier at 5 under-par there is: Italy’s Cristiano Terragni and Manfredi Manica and Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar.

The second round of the 2024 New Giza Open will begin again at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. Once the 2nd round is completed, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.

The final round of the 2023 Alps de Andalucía being played at the beautiful Isla Canela Links began at 8:00 am under sunny skies, a warm temperature and windy conditions. The players were able to compete under optimal scoring and weather conditions this week. This is the 2nd year, this event is being played at Isla Canela Links.
The final round of the 2023 Alps de Andalucía began at 8:00 am from hole 1 and 10. The final group teed off at 9:28 am from the 1st hole.
Final Round Player Quotes
France’s Benjamin Kedochim, who was tied for the lead after round 2, had a final round of 6 under-par for a three-day total of 18 under-par to take part in the two-way sudden-death playoff. He made 1 bogey and 7 birdies in his final round. His score for each round this week has been three consecutive 66s. He is 28 years old and currently represents Biarritz Le Phare. Prior to today’s playoff, his best finish was a tied for 6th place at the 2023 Gösser Open. After he complete the playoff, Kedochim was very satisfied of himself, “Yeah I feel like I did my job the past 3 days. Definitely three rounds with the same score under par doesn’t happen every time. I don’t have anything to regret and actually I’m very pleased of myself. I will keep playing like I played this week and allowing myself to have chances and I’m sure it will be rewarded in the next events.”
Spain’s twenty-three years old, Quim Vidal, winner of the 2nd event of the season, the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open was close to the top of the leaderboard all week. He shot a bogey-free 5 under-par round, 67 today with 5 birdies for a three-day total of 16 under-par. When he signed for his bogey-free round, Vidal commented: “I played pretty well, today I didn’t make as many birdie putts, I had many that I couldn’t take advantage off. I played well the par 5 except the first one but overall, I am happy. I think I had a good chance to win again because my game is solid. I’m taking from this week some great feelings in my game as I hit the ball much better and was able to earn some confidence.”
Round 1 Leader, France’s Paul Margolis, concludes the tournament tied for 4th place with a three-day score of 15 under-par. He shot a bogey-free final round with 7 birdies for a 7 under-par, 65. He is 24 years old and represents Cannes-Mougins Golf Club. Margolis turned professional at the end of 2021 and captured his 1st win on the Alps Tour as an amateur player at the 2021 Mira Live the Soul Open. At the end of the 2021 season, he earned one of the coveted Challenge Tour Cards which is up for grabs to the highest ranked players in the Alps Tour Order of Merit for the following season. After his final round, he commented: “Today was a great round, it was very similar to my first round where I had a bogey-free 8 under-par round. I hit my irons so well today and my putting on the back nine could’ve been better, I had a lot of chances within 5 meters I wasn’t able to capitalize on. I could’ve been a much lower than what I actually did. Overall, it’s still a great tournament and I’m really happy about where my game is at right now. I’m getting closer to capturing a win so I’m going to keep focusing on what I have been doing so hopefully I will be holding a trophy soon.”
Alongside Margolis tied in 4th place at 15 under-par, Netherland’s Lars Keunen. In 6th place, Spain’s Enrique Marin. Just 2 strokes back in 7th place, Edoardo R Lipparelli from Italy.
After the 8th event of the season, Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele keeps the Alps Tour Order of Merit lead with Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney in 2nd place and Spain’s Quim Vidal closes out the top three spots. This week’s winner, Spain’s Jose Manuel Pardo Benitez has moved into 6th place.

Ayamonte, June 15th 2023- France’s Paul Margolis leads with a bogey-free 8 under-par, 64 at the conclusion of the 1st round at the 2023 Alps de Andalucía. Netherland’s Lars Keunen finds himself in 2nd place with a first-round score of 7 under-par, 65. French duo Romain Wattel and Benjamin Kedochim are tied alongside Spain’s Jose Manuel Pardo Benitez in 3rdplace with a 6 under-par 66.
A beautiful day with pleasant temperatures reaching a high of 29* but with windy conditions welcomed the players at Isla Canela Links course near Ayamonte, Spain for the first round of the 2023 Alps de Andalucía. This is the 11th edition of the event and the second time it’s being played at this golf course. Play began at 8:15 am from both the 1st and 10th hole.
Lars Keunen from Netherland concluded his first round at the 2023 Alps de Andalucía with 7 under-par, 65 and find himself in 2nd place. He is 26 years old and represents The Dutch Golf Club. He has been consistently near the top of the leaderboards in the majority of the events this season. After his round, he happily commented: “my game was pretty good from tee to green today. The wind made it pretty tricky on some holes but overall, I played nicely, I’m happy. Tomorrow I’ll try to keep doing the same things and keep the same mindset of going one shot at a time.”
Romain Wattel from France, who represents Bussy Saint Georges, concluded his first round at the 2023 Alps de Andalucíawith a 6 under-par, 66 and is one of three players tied for 3rd place. He is 2 strokes off the lead heading into the second round. He began his round on the 10th hole today and made 3 birdies on his front nine and 4 birdies and 1 bogey on his back nine.
France’s Benjamin Kedochim, shot a bogey-free, 6 under-par, 66 with 4 birdies and 1 eagle and he is the second player tied for 3rd place entering the second round. He is 28 years old and currently represents Biarritz Le Phare. His best finish so far this season is a tied for 6th place at the 2023 Gösser Open. After his opening round, Kedochim was pleased: “Today was a great round, it’s my best round in putting, I made a lot of putts today. That was the best part of my game for sure even though usually it’s my iron play. I was able to always put the ball in play and never had to face a tough situation. My attitude was very positive and I just tried to keep doing my best.” He went on to add that he had the same mindset as when he played at the Gösser Open which was “to put the ball in play and then hit the middle of the green and make as many putts as possible.” Kedochim, went on to comment that: “I’ve been in contention lately and had a tough final round that kept me out of the top 5 but now I’m just focusing on what I can control and try to stay as close to the top as possible to hopefully capture a trophy soon.”
Jose Manuel Pardo Benitez from Spain who is 24 years old and represents Golf La Moraleja is the third player in the 3-way tie at 6 under-par and 2 strokes off the lead. He made 5 birdies on the front nine and 2 birdies and 1 bogey on the nine. After the round, he was overall satisfied, “I played really well, very solid today, the best part of my game was the attitude knowing that I am in a great place after finishing 4th last week. I started the season poorly missing cuts but I am getting better each day. Things are going really well around me, golf, family, life and of course all of that reflects on the golf course and how I can approach each round.”
There is a 7-way tie for 6th place at 5-under-par that includes: French amateur Antoine Bachelier, France’s Arthur Ameil-Planchin, Belgium’s Kevin Hesbois, Spanish duo Victor Garcia Broto and Mario Galiano Aguilar, England’s Jack Floydd and Spain’s Quim Vidal.
The 140 players are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The tournament winner will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
Round 2-
The second round of the 2023 Alps de Andalucía will begin again at 8:15 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.
The first-round leader, Paul Margolis will begin round 2 at 1:48 pm local time from the 10th hole.

Maria Lankowitz, May 12th 2023– It was a very long day of golf under difficult and cold weather conditions the 144 players competing at the 31st edition of the Gösser Open had to face. After play was suspended during yesterday’s 1st round at 11:58 am due to flooded greens, the Tournament Director Alessandro Pia decided at 2:00 pm to suspend play for the remainder of the day due to the continuous heavy rain fall.
After all night rain and cold temperatures which continued for the entire day, the 1st round resumed at 8:30 am local time and the 1st round afternoon wave tee times began at 9:00 am. Play was able to resume thanks to the unbelievable work performed by the Golf Club Erzherzog Johann- Maria Lankowitz superintendents lead by head superintendent Robert Keusch and his staff: Thomas Hacker, Matthias Schaffer, Josef Keusch, Johann Pölzl, Gregor Koschar and Stefan Fall.
When the 1st round was successfully completed, Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney was at the top of the leaderboard with an 8 under-par, 64. In 2nd place, France’s Paul Margolis with a 5 under-par,67. Tied for 3rd place only 1 shot back at 4 under-par: France’s Augustin Hole, Italy’s Gianmaria Rean Trinchero and Spain’s Daniel Berna Manzanares.
Round 2 began at 3:00pm local time from both the 1st and 10th hole. At 7:30 pm, Tournament Director Alessandro Pia, suspended play due to darkness. The second round will resume tomorrow morning, Saturday 13th May at 8:00 am. The afternoon wave tee times for the 2nd round will begin from hole 1 and 10 at 8:00 with the final group
When play was suspended, the current 31st Gösser Open leader, Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney concluded his round with a two-day total of 12 under-par. He holds a 6 strokes advantage on Spain’s Daniel Berna Manzanares and France’s Benjamin Kedochim, both of which still have to conclude their round.
Due to the weather delays and expected forecast, the Tournament Committee has decided to reduce the tournament to 36 holes with no cut.
The prize money will be assigned to the top 40 professional players and ties. The Order of Merit points will be given to the top 40 (and ties) Alps Tour Members both professional as well as amateur players.
The players are competing for a prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner of the 31st Gösser Open will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

Edoardo Giletta 1 Up after Round 1
April 22nd, 2021 – Pescara, Italy. The Italian player, Edoardo Giletta heads the leader board after carding a –7 (64) after Round 1 here at the Abruzzo Alps Open.
Teeing off from the 1st, Giletta, who turned pro last year, opened in style with an eagle on the first hole par 5, followed by two birdies. Straight pars, another birdie and not a bogey in sight saw him turn for home at -4 (31). The back nine saw four more birdies, a slight wobble on the par 3 12th with a double bogey but a -2 (33) saw him grab the lead.
“I had a strong start with an eagle on hole number 1, a nice drive, a good second shot and I holed a great putt, it was unexpected! On 12 I hit a bad shot, went into the water, and took a drop but I reacted promptly with a birdie the following hole and another birdie before the end. I was very concentrated today and tonight I will speak with my coach about the strategy for tomorrow”.
Hot on his heels at -6 (65) are four players. First into the clubhouse and leader after the morning rounds was the Italian amateur Alessandro Nardini. The 17-year-old started from the 10th and fired six birdies, three each nine, on his bogey-free card.
“The back nine are more difficult but I started strong with -3 so a good game and especially the putting. On the front nine I kept playing well, so I’m very happy about it. I’m a very positive kind of player on the course, I don’t lose confidence if a hole goes wrong, on the contrary, I try to do better on the next and recover, that’s my attitude. I’m super happy to be up there on the leader board in a pro tournament, but this doesn’t mean I am as good as the pros yet! I’m happy to be here and play with them and will try to learn from them”.
Alongside Nardini are Jonathan Yates from Ireland and Uli Weinhandl from Austria. Playing in the same flight off the 10th Yates shot one eagle on the par 5 1st, six birdies, and two bogeys whilst Weinhandl had one eagle on the par 5 9th, five birdies and one bogey. The French amateur, Tom Vaillant completes the quartet. He played a flawless outward nine with five birdies for a -5 (31). A single bogey coming in but a final flourish with two birdies pushed him into joint second.
Rounding out the top ten at -5 (66) are three Italian players, Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, Carlo Casalegno, the amateur Ricardo Bregoli and the English player, Thomas Thurloway.
The French amateur Paul Margolis is having a series of firsts on the Alps Tour this season. He had his first victory in a pro tournament when he won the previous tournament, the MIRA Live the Soul Open and today, on the 186 metre, par 3 second hole, he had his first ever hole-in-one after a majestic 6 iron shot. He finished at -2 (69) for the day.
With a total of 67 players at par or under, the tournament is still wide open. The Miglianico Golf & Country Club course is in pristine condition, both fairways and greens, plus the weather promises to continue to be clement which are all favourable signs for some great golf in Round 2 heading for the cut at the end of the day. Tee off starts at 7:30 am from holes 1 and 10.
