Modena, October 8^th 2022- Jonathan Yates wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit with a three-day score of 14 under-par. In second place, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli who concluded the event at 12 under-par after a final round of 68. France’s Julien Sale who turned pro only a few weeks ago, concluded his tournament in 3rd place with a final round 68 and moved into 2nd place of the Order of Merit rank.

Gregorio De Leo is the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit winner and secures himself a 2023 Challenge Tour card.

The final round of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final began at 7:50 am this morning with a brisk temperature and slightly overcast skies but soon after that when the final pairing teed off at 9:30 am from the 1^st hole, the sun peaked through for another beautiful fall sunny day at Modena Golf & Country Club.

The winner’s trophy that was handed to Jonathan Yates was designed and created by artist-designer Roberta Verteramo. Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit rank and earns one of the coveted 2023 Challenge Tour cards that was up for grabs.

Final Round-

Jonathan Yates wins the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final with a three-day score of 14 under-par. He earned 9,500 Order of Merit points and the winning check of €10,000. He followed his opening round of 5 under-par, with a 6 under-par in the second round and a final round of 3 under-par to end the tournament at 14 under-par. After Jonathan’s victory, he was very satisfied: “Today was the best of the week. My game was very very solid. Stefano got off to a really quick start and put up to me early but I’m very happy I responded really well to him. It was a great day and a great week.” When asked to explain his experience on the tour this year he said: “The Alps Tour is fantastic, there is not better 3rd year tour, the tournaments and the golf courses are fantastic. The level of golf this year was phenomenal. I’m going to go 2nd stage of q-school next and then I will re-evaluate my schedule after this week’s result.”

Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit rank and earns one of the coveted 2023 Challenge Tour cards that was up for grabs. Throughout the season he won two events in Italy and one in After Gregorio secured his title as this year’s order of merit rank he commented: “I was nervous at the start, I knew the other players had to win for me not to qualify. I had a slow start but then luckily turned things around to end a good round. I made silly mistakes on the first few holes which cost me some bogeys but luckily, I turned things around. On the back nine, I started off on the 10^th hole with an eagle. Gregorio wins the Order of Merit following Jacopo Vecchi Fossa last year making himself the second Italian to win the order of merit in back-to-back years. When asked to comment on what it meant to him to win the Order of Merit rank, Gregorio explained: “It’s a great honor to win the ranking after Jacopo last year, I didn’t expect it. It was never a goal of mine to win the rankings, I definitely wanted to earn one of the Challenge Tour cards but I’m glad I was able to achieve both.” He wants to dedicate this win to his coach, Alain and then his entire family for their continuous support. Gregorio went on to add that, “the Alps Tour is an amazing experience if you’re an amateur or pro. The courses are great and it gives you tremendous experience especially if your ultimate goal is to reach the highest ranked tours.”

The 5 sought after 2023 Challenge Tour cards, category 12 were earned by Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, France’s Julien Sale, France’s Tom Vaillant (am), Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli and Ireland’s Gary Hurley. France’s Tom Vaillant is expected to turn professional within the next few weeks. Gregorio De Leo won with a 6,078.50 points advantage over the second ranked player that was Julien Sale.

The Alps Tour will be back in action in mid-February 2023 in Egypt.

Victory for Victor Garcia Broto at Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final

October 16th, 2021, Modena – It was a Grand Final full of surprises that went right down to the line but saw Victor Garcia Broto from Spain hold steady to stay at the top of the leader board for the three days and seize victory in a two-way play-off against the Italian amateur Riccardo Bregoli.

« I’m really happy with the way I played. I’d like to thank the Alps Tour as this is my first season with them. I started as an amateur, turned pro in the middle of the season and this is a fantastic way to end ».

The trophy presented to winner Victor Garcia Broto was specially designed by Roberta Verteramo to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Alps Tour.

The play-off on the 18th hole, saw Bregoli take the riskier right-hand fairway and, unfortunately, find the water. Garcia Broto took the safer route via the left-hand fairway, played a second safe shot and put his third just off the back of the green to chip on to be less than a metre from the hole. Bregoli’s fourth shot found the rough and he hit the green for five. Three putts to sink the ball, giving him triple bogey, he could only congratulate the Spanish player who sank his putt for par.

A real home-crowd pleaser as witnessed by the supporters on the 18th green, Bregoli was obviously disappointed but remained positive :

« This has been my home club for sixteen years since I started to play golf and I really appreciated playing here and to play well ».

With the Grand Final completed, the points on the Order fo Merit were distributed. Another Modena Golf & Country Club member, Jacopo Vecchi Fossa received the trophy as winner of the 2021 OofM. He receives one of the 5 full cards on the Challenge Tour for next year.

In second place is Ryan Lumsden from Scotland who was absent from the final as he is currently playing the Korn Ferry QSchool.

In third place is Angel Hidalgo Portillo who was also not present as he has already earned a Challenge Tour card having won the Big Green Egg German Challenge. Thus the third card goes to today’s winner, the fourth placed Victor Garcia Broto.

Two French players follow on the list for full cards; Paul Elissalde and the amateur Paul Margolis, if he turns pro before the end of the year.

Thus ends the 20th anniversary year of the Alps Tour. The 2022 season kicks off in Egypt mid-February.

Victory for Vecchi Fossa at Abruzzo Alps Open

April 24th, 2021 – Pescara, Italy. Jacopo Vecchi Fossa raised his second trophy of the month after winning the Abruzzo Alps Open just two weeks after his win at the National Open Golf Championship on the very same course. The Italian who started as joint-leader today, said just yesterday that he was “turbo-charged”. Today he was in over-drive as he finished with -15 (198) here at the Miglianico Golf & Country Club which seems to be a lucky course for him:

“It’s a really good course for my game and I also really like the place where we are, it’s incredible. I played very well, I putted very well also, in fact all aspects of my game worked. Today was a little bit harder because of the wind and I made a mistake on the 3rd with a double bogey, but I hit my best shots on the difficult holes from 10 to 13 which I played very solidly so I’m happy”.

With a double-bogey, bogey, and six birdies for a card today of 68 (-3), Vecchi Fossa’s win puts him at the top of the Alps Tour Order of Merit after three tournaments.

We had been expecting a closely fought final day and we certainly had one. The notoriously difficult back nine proved to be decisive.

David Ravetto in joint second place on -12 (201) had a flawless round and was the only one of the top six players to avoid the back-nine traps to have a bogey-free card. The French player who won the 2020 Alps Tour Qualifying School started for home at just one stroke behind the leader at this point on -10. He added two more birdies on the back nine to his four on the front nine to really make his mark in what looks like a promising rookie season.

He is joined by his compatriot Pierre Pineau who started the round at -8. The Le Vaudreuil based golfer turned for home at -10 after three birdies and a bogey. The uphill 11^th par 4 saw another bogey followed by a birdie on the tricky 12^th, then two more birdies to place him as joint runner-up.

A trio of players share the fourth position at -11 (202), including yesterday’s joint leader, Edoardo Giletta. He took the lead on the 3^rd when Vecchi Fossa double-bogeyed and was sitting pretty at the 7^th on -15 after two more birdies when two disastrous double bogeys on the 8^th and 9^th saw him drop back to -11. His resilience showed on the back nine though when, despite two bogeys, he finished the round with birdies on the 17^th and 18^th.

Two amateurs are the other fourth-placed players. Tom Vaillant started the day in second place on -11. The French player had a fantastic front nine with two birdies and straight pars to be on -13, just one stroke behind the leader, his playing partner Vecchi Fossa. Despite a birdie on the 12^th, three bogeys saw him finish at par for the day.

The Spanish amateur Joel Moscatel had a real ‘montada’ on the front nine. Teeing off at -6 he holed six birdies to rise to -12 heading for home. The infamous back nine took their toll where two more birdies could not compensate for the three bogeys to see him finish the day at 66 (-5).

The Alps Tour players now head to Umbria in central Italy for the Antognolla Open from Wednesday April 28^th to Friday April 30^th. All six at the top of today’s leader board are among the 138 players currently confirmed so we should have some interesting rounds ahead of us at the Antognolla Golf Club.

Jacopo Vecchi Fossa Seizes First Victory

October 30th, 2020 – Rome, Italy – What a finish to the Alps Tour 2020 season! After a round that had everyone on the edge of their seats until the final hole, the victor was Jacopo Vecchi Fossa from Italy with a final round of 68 (-4) and a grand total of -13 (203).

“It’s great to win the last tournament of the season. I’ve played six events this year and I’ve played well on some great courses. Plus, this win secures me my full card for the Alps Tour next season”.

Having undergone heart surgery in 2017, it is great to see him fully recovered and back on form. His pleasure at winning his first Alps Tour title was dimmed though by the fact that his playing partner, Jeong Weon Ko incurred a one stroke penalty on the 18^th green.

On the 18^th tee, Ko was one stroke ahead at -13. His ball came to rest just off the green and he marked it to check the line, but then moved the ball to adjust the line which is an infringement of rule 9.4b of the Rules of Golf. His error obviously unsettled him as he three-putted to finish with a double bogey whilst the Italian birdied to secure the win.

“It takes a little joy away from my win as I felt really sorry for Jeong”.

Nevertheless, Ko can take some comfort from his second place as it was enough to secure him third place on the Order of Merit and thus one of the three Challenge Tour places for next year.

The remaining two Challenge Tour places go to Jordi Garcia Del Moral from Spain, who was the winner of the 2020 OofM and his fellow countryman, Lucas Vacarisas who was second. Jordi Garcia Del Moral had arrived at the final secure in the knowledge that his performance this year with six top ten results, including a win at the Cervino Open meant that he would already have one of the three cards.

“I knew I had one of the top three places on the OofM but I had to aim for a top three win here, in case Lucas won the tournament”. He finally finished ninth which was more than enough as Lucas Vacarisas finished sixth.

Next week sees Jordi Garcia Del Moral heading home to Spain for a Challenge Tour event but he expressed his gratitude to the Alps Tour team.

“It’s been a long year, difficult with the Covid 19 but finally we finished the year. We did nine events, and all the players are very grateful to you guys for working so hard and doing a great job. So, thank you!”

The Alps Tour returns to Italy on the 11^th November for the First Stage of the 2020 Qualifying School. The first two rounds will be played on three different courses near Rome over two days. The Golf Club Parco de’ Medici, the Terre dei Consoli Golf Club and the Golf Nazionale. These last two clubs will then host the Final Stage over three rounds the following week from the 17^th-19^th November.
