Final Round Player Quotes

Italy’s Edoardo R Lipparelli, 27, wins his second Alps Tour title at the 2024 New Giza Open. He was in a tie for 4thplace after yesterday’s round 2 and today he shot a fabulous bogey-free 9 under-par, 63 to conclude the tournament with a three-day total of 17 under-par.  He is a past winner on the Alps Tour, won the 2018 Alps Tour Order of Merit and has collected a number of top 3 finishes over the years. After his win, Lipparelli proudly commented: “I’m very pleased, I played well today. Obviously when you put together a bogey-free round it’s always special but today my game was very solid. I always try to focus on hitting shot by shot and not focus on the overall result. I began my round making 4 birdies in the first 5 holes and even after doing that, I tried to focus on one shot at a time.”  He added that this is a special win to him as: “it shows that the hard work I did this off-season is paying off. It’s good to be back in the winner’s circle after these past few years. My goal remains the same which I think is the same as most of us players have, which is to conclude the season in the top 5 spots to earn one of the Challenge Tour cards.” Lipparelli also mentioned how “I found that the level of golf the players competing on the Alps Tour are playing has grown tremendously over the years. It showed even today with the scores that were made. There will be some exciting battles this season.”

The winner of the season-opening event, the 2024 Ein Bay Open, France’s Aymeric Laussot, 23, concludes the tournament in a two-way tie for 2nd place only 1 stroke back at 16 under-par, alongside England’s Harry Goddard. He made 5 birdies on his opening front nine and then made 4 more birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine to conclude his day with a 8 under-par, 64. After his fabulous final round, Laussot commented: “8 under-par on the final round giving yourself a chance to win is all you can really do. Hats off to Edoardo to shot 9 under-par. We played together and to be honest it was a great golf show, hole after hole. He kept hitting it slightly closer than me, but my putter was hot today, and I made a lot of important putts. I’m really pleased with the way I played overall and I have a lot to take away from this Winter Series. I tried to put some pressure on him, but he’s been playing great the past few tournaments and he was extremely solid today.”

Harry Goddard, 24, from England is the second player who concluded the 2024 New Giza Open in the two-way tie for 2ndplace at 16 under-par. After his 8 under-par, 64 round, Goddard commented: “The round went very well today. It was a bogey-free round which is always nice but honestly today I really hit the ball lovely which makes it even more rewarding.” When asked what he takes away from the beginning of the season, he added: “it’s been good to get out and play some competitive golf and to be able to finish the trip off with a T2nd place is good.”

After the first three events of the 2024 season, the Alps Tour Order of Merit rank has Edoardo R Lipparelli leading with 13,005.00 points. Aymeric Laussot and Jose Antonio Sintes Navarro (am) close out the top three spots. In 4thplace, Harry Goddard with 4,716.00 points and Eduard Rousaud is in 5th place with 4,606.18 points.

Final Round

Edoardo R Lipparelli winner of the 2024 New Giza Open, earned the winner’s check of €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

Now the Alps Tour players will have a few weeks off before the next scheduled event of the 2024 season.

2nd March 2024 | Alps Tour Golf

Benjamin Kedochim extends his lead at the 2024 New Giza Open.

Cairo, March 2nd, 2024- France’s Benjamin Kedochim extends his lead after two rounds at the 2024 New Giza Open with a total score of 11 under-par. Italy’s Manfredi Manica and England’s Harry Ellis are in a 2-way tie for 2nd place with a two-day total of 9 under-par. Spain’s Jorge Maicas and Mario Galiano Aguilar, England’s Harry Goddard and Arron Edwards-Hill, Italy’s Edoardo R Lipparelli and Enrico Di Nitto, and France’s Aymeric Laussot are in a 7-way tie for 4th place at 8 under-par.

It was another beautiful day with mostly sunny skies that welcomed the players at New Giza Golf Club in Cairo, Egypt for the 2nd round of the 2024 New Giza Golf Club. Play began at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. The first time the Alps Tour played at New Giza Golf Club was in 2019 and Italy’s Lorenzo Scalise, who now plays regularly on the DP World Tour, won the event. Players are competing with good scoring conditions this week, even if they faced more wind today compared to yesterday’s first round.

Round 2 Player Quotes

France’s Benjamin Kedochim, 29, maintains his lead after two rounds of the 2024 New Giza Open. He shot a second round of 5 under-par,67 with 1 eagle, 4 birdies, and 1 bogey for a two-day total of 11 under-par. Kedochim has earned numerous top 5 finishes in his career but is still looking to earn his 1st title as he has never won an Alps Tour event. After his round, he was delighted and happily commented: “Even if we teed off in the morning today, it was significantly windier than yesterday. It was already really windy at 5:30 this morning when I left the hotel. The course is wide, so I feel like you can allow yourself to miss some shots off the tees, they don’t need to be perfect, however your iron shots and your putting need to be spot on. I feel like I managed well today in these conditions and the only bogey I made was a stupid one but then I almost made an albatross on 14 so it was a good comeback.” He added that this week, “I’m not thinking at all about the results, I’m just trying to stay in the present and hit the shot that’s ahead of me and I also do the same with my putting. I try to hit the putt on the line I see without thinking about the consequences or having to tell myself I need to make it.” Kedochim plans to “do a little practice this afternoon just to go over the fundamentals I’ve been working on and allow my body to memorize well my swing which seems to be working well and some rest as that is always very important ahead of tomorrow’s final round.”

Manfredi Manica, 28, from Italy, winner of the 2023 Aravell Golf Open by Creand, is 2 strokes off the lead after the 2nd round of the 2024 New Giza Open. He was tied for 2nd place at 5 under-par after the 1st round of the tournament and remains in a 2-way tie for 2nd place with a two-day total of 9 under-par. He made 6 birdies and 1 double bogey during round 2, for a 4 under-par, 68. At the conclusion of his round, he commented on how, “today was a good day, yesterday wasn’t bad either but today the only negative part was the double bogey on the last hole which was unfortunate. However, it’s done now, and I can only look forward to tomorrow and try my best. I don’t want to do what I did at the season-opening event, where I had a rough start to the round, and then all I can do is to try and recover. Yes, it was the first event of the season, so my game was a bit rusty but tomorrow I plan to play like I did today and having played a few rounds, I’m a bit more confident overall in my game.” Manica added that, “it would mean a lot to me to win tomorrow. That would mean adding another title next to my name, but most importantly, it would allow me to have some margin for the rest of the season, which would determine my chances of being in the top 5 of the order of merit rank. That said, I will stay present and focused on my round and what I can control and see if it will be enough at the end of the round.”

England’s Harry Ellis, 28, who was tied for 17th place after yesterday’s 1st round, now finds himself in a 2-way tie for 2ndplace with a two-day total of 9 under-par. He shot a bogey-free 6 under-par, 66 in today’s round 2 where he made 5 birdies in a row to begin his day. Ellis’s best finish this season was a 10th place at the season-opening, 2024 Ein Bay Open. After he concluded his bogey-free round, Ellis commented: “it was a quick start to the round which put me in a good place for the rest of the day. To have a bogey-free round, on a tricky day feels very rewarding.” He added that he plans to: “just go out and play another round of golf. I feel like I have some good momentum and I am just looking forward to being out on the course again tomorrow.”

In a 7-way tie for 4th place at 8 under-par you can find: Spain’s Jorge Maicas and Mario Galiano Aguilar, England’s Harry Goddard and Arron Edwards-Hill, Italy’s Edoardo R Lipparelli and Enrico Di Nitto and France’s Aymeric Laussot.

Final Round

The final round of the 2024 New Giza Open will begin at 8:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. The leaders will tee off at 9:17 am local time from the 1st hole.

The winner of the 2024 New Giza Open, will earn the winning check of €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

1st March 2024 | Alps Tour Golf

Benjamin Kedochim leads after Round 1 at the 2024 New Giza Open.

Cairo, March 1st, 2024After Round 1 of the 2024 New Giza Open, we have a tight leaderboard. France’s Benjamin Kedochim has a 1 shot lead with a first-round score of 6 under-par over a 7-way tie for 2nd place that includes: France’s Paul Margolis and Damien Perrier, Spain’s Borja Martin and Mario Galiano Aguilar, England’s Arron Edwards-Hilland Italy’s Cristiano Terragni and Manfredi Manica.

The first round of the third and final tournament of the 2024 Winter Series, the 2024 New Giza Golf Club, played at the breathtaking New Giza Golf Club in Egypt’s capital, Cairo began this morning at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole.

The Alps Tour debuted at New Giza Golf Club in March 2019, and the inaugural event was won by Italy’s Lorenzo Scalise, who now plays regularly on the DP World Tour.

Players had favorable weather conditions today, allowing them the opportunity to take advantage of good scoring opportunities. The forecast for the remainder of the week is expected to remain very similar to today’s round, with blue skies, temperatures that could reach 28° Celsius and some moderate winds are forecasted especially during the afternoon.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Benjamin Kedochim, 29, from France leads after the first round of the 2024 New Giza Open with a bogey-free, 6 under-par, 66. He teed off on the 10th hole where he made 2 birdies, after making the turn, he went on to make 4 more birdies to conclude his day. Kedochim has earned a number of top 5 finishes in his career but is looking to capture his 1st title on the Alps Tour. After his bogey-free round, Kedochim explained that he is, “pretty pleased with today especially as I finished with two birdies on hole 8 and 9 to lead by 1 shot. I made a 5-meter putt on both holes to make the birdies and it’s always nice to finish on a good note. It was very windy for 15 holes which made it tricker.” He plans on“staying focused like I did today for the remaining 2 rounds because when it’s windy, you need to be focused on the safe zones, especially on the greens as the greens are big this week so it’s easy to find yourself with very long putts with a lot of break and the wind that will make it very difficult. It’s very important to miss it on the correct side of the course and I don’t want to be too aggressive either.” Kedochim also “never focus on only one aspect of my game, I tried to stay focused on each shot and always give it my best. It’s easy to lose concentration and bogey so it’s crucial to always be present and concentrated.”

France’s Paul Margolis, 24, is in a 7-way tie for 2nd place after the first round of the 2024 New Giza Open. He shot a bogey-free 5 under-par, 67 round today making 2 birdies on the front nine and 3 on the back nine. Margolis has earned various Top 10 finishes throughout the years and captured his first win on the Alps Tour in 2021 as an amateur player. Beyond earning his first title in 2021, he turned professional later that year.

Borja Martin, 24, from Spain, is also in the 7-way tie for 2nd place after round 1 of the 2024 New Giza Open with a score of 5 under-par. He made 7 birdies and 2 bogeys throughout his day for a total score of 67. Martin captured numerous top finishes on the Alps Tour, and his most recent one is an 8th place finish at the season-opening, 2024 Ein Bay Open. This is his third season competing as a professional player. After his round, Martin commented that today, my game felt good, I had a great front nine and then on the back nine I made 2 bogeys on the par 5s without doing much wrong, but it was overall a good day.” He teed off in the morning wave for today’s first round and he “think the scores will probably be better in the morning today compared to the afternoon. We didn’t have much wind on the front nine, but it picked up for the back side even if it’s not as strong as it’ll probably be in the afternoon. The wind definitely makes it tougher out here.” Martin plans to, “take one day at a time and keep doing my own thing. Hopefully, I can take advantage of the par 5s tomorrow and stay on top.”

England’s Arron Edwards-Hill, 24, shot a 5 under-par,67 in today’s first round to be in the 7-way tie for 2nd place at the 2024 New Giza Open. During today’s round, he made 2 birdies on the front nine and 4 birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine. This is his first full year of playing as a professional golf player since he turned professional at the end of 2023, It’s my first season on the Alps Tour so I wasn’t sure what to expect but the events are run great, and being able to compete here with great weather is very fortunate.” After he concluded his 5-under-par round, Edwards-Hill commented: “it was solid golf today, 16 greens today so loads of chances inside 10-15 feet held a nice 35-footer down the slope on the par 3 4th to get the birdies on the board.” He added that: “there wasn’t much wind this morning on the front nine. You could be aggressive with your wedges and short iron, which, on the front nine, there is a lot. It picked up on the back nine, making it trickier, especially as I played the par 5s into the wind, so I definitely think it was a slight advantage being able to tee off with no wind.”

A past winner on the Alps Tour, France’s Damien Perrier, 34 is the fourth player tied for 2nd place at 5 under-par after round 1 of the 2024 New Giza Open. He shot a bogey-free round with 2 birdies on the front nine and 3 birdies on the back nine to conclude his round. After his round, Perrier proudly commented: “It was a good round of golf today. A bogey-free round with 13 pars and 5 birdies on this golf course is really good. I definitely would have signed for it if someone asked me ahead of the round. The course isn’t easy with the set up because it’s playing very long. It’s challenging, and we had some wind alright this morning, making it trickier.” He added that he: “struggled with a few shots at the beginning of the round, but my putter saved me on a few occasions with some important pars. I had 6 birdie opportunities in the last 6 holes, which I unfortunately didn’t make, so it could have been a few shots lower. I’m slightly frustrated with the way my scorecard ended, but looking at it in perspective, I’m quite happy.”  He earned numerous top 10 finishes and won on the Alps Tour in 2009 at the Open International de Normandie“I played many seasons on the Alps Tour, it is a tour I know well, and it challenges myself at 34 years old after losing my Challenge Tour status. It would have been easier to quit the game of golf, but I didn’t want to do that. I feel my game is still in a good spot and I want to go back on the main tour.”

Tied for 2nd place alongside Margolis, Martin, Edwards-Hill and Perrier at 5 under-par there is: Italy’s Cristiano Terragni and Manfredi Manica and Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar.

Round 2

The second round of the 2024 New Giza Open will begin again at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. Once the 2nd round is completed, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.

Round 1 leader, France’s Benjamin Kedochim will begin his round 2 of the tournament at 7:40 am local time from the 1st hole.

11th January 2022 | Alps Tour Golf

Ready for an exciting New Season!

January 11th, 2022 – The 2022 schedule has not yet been fully finalized, but our Alps Tour members are definitely ready and eager to start an exciting new season with an ambitious goal: gaining one of the five Challenge Tour cards at stake for the best players in the Order of Merit at the end of the year. This has been clear since the opening of the entries for the 2022 Winter Series one week ago with a flow of names adding up, hour after hour, and soon exceeding the 120 spots available for each of the three tournaments scheduled in a row from February 22 to March 6.

Egypt is once again the ideal stage for starting the touring season, as it has been the case since 2013, including the last two complicated years. For the 10th time, in fact, the Sokhna Golf Club will host the Ein Bay Open (February 22-24) and the Red Sea Little Venice Open (Febr. 27 – March 1). These two traditional events taking place on the shores of the Suez Gulf will be followed by the return of the New Giza Open (March 4-6) at stunning New Giza Golf Club near Cairo, some 160 km North West of Sokhna and built by the Australian golf architect Tim Lobb with amazing views of the famous Pyramids of Giza. It will be the second experience for the Alps Tour at New Giza, after the debut event in March 2019 won by Italian Lorenzo Scalise, now a Challenge Tour regular.

The 2022 schedule – which should count 18 tournaments in all, with 40,000 prize money each – will then resume in the last week of March with a “Spring Series” in Italy, two events yet to be confirmed, followed by the traditional stop in Miglianico (centre of Italy) for the 8th edition of the Abruzzo Alps Open (April 13-15).

May, June and July are going to be quite busy, with the Italy Alps event (May 5-7) on a venue to be announced, then in Austria for the 30th edition of the Gösser Open at the Golf Club Erzherzog Johann (May 19-21), the 8th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni at La Pinetina, Italy (May 25-27). We will cross the Atlantic Sea for the Open de St Francois in Guadeloupe (June 2-4), then back to France for the 18th edition of the Open de la Mirabelle d’Or (June 17-19), and straight to Spain for the Alps de Andalucia (June 23-25); back to France for the Aa St Omer mixed Open (June 30 – July 2) with the LET Access, Spain again with Alps de las Castillas (July 7-9) and La Gomera island with the Alps de la Gomera (July 14-16).

The final part of the season will be in Italy, with one event in July (21-23), then the Albarella Alps Open near Venice (September 29 – October 1), and the Grand Final (October 6-8) to finish with a special celebration and the best performing players of the year.

All we have left to do now is getting ready at our best for the upcoming Egyptian events: entries close on February 1st! Check the Alps Tour Golf app for the full schedule.
