The first venue that will host the Stage 1 Qualifying School event is located in Northern Italy, approximately 30km southeast of Bologna. Rolling hills and a typical Emilia-Romagna landscape surround Golf Club Le Fonti. It has previously hosted Alps Tour events, Ladies European Tour events, and Qualifying Schools. The players will face multiple water hazards, making it a tough challenge.

Miglianico Golf and Country Club is the second course hosting Stage 1 events this year. It is a 5875-meter par 72 course in the Province of Chieti, about 20km south of Pescara in the Abruzzo Region. He is just 18 years old, turned professional at the end of 2022 and currently represents Golf Club SeignosseGuillamoundeguy already was an Alps Tour winner as he won last season while he was still competing as an amateur. After he sealed his 1st win, Guillamoundeguy was very emotional: “today was really good. It was a good fight. The pins were really tricky today but I did really well with my caddie. I made a small mistake on the 9th hole but was able to bounce back with a birdie on the 12th so it was really good. I’m so happy, it’s a nice feeling.”  He went to add that he found, Miglianico Golf & Country Club is a really good course, there are some easy holes and some tough holes. It’s a bit tricky but if you want to win here you have to hit the ball well.”  Guillamoundeguy was pleased about today as, “I moved up in the Order of Merit and that was my objective. You know the 1st year as a pro isn’t always easy as there is a lot of pressure but I’m really happy about how this week went. Now I will go back home and enjoy this win with my friends and family and then back to work to focus on the end of the season where I want to try and win another tournament.”

Twenty-seven years old, Davey Porsius, from Netherland concludes the tournament in 2nd place, only 1 stroke from the title. After his round, he commented: “I played pretty solid for 16 holes, I was trying to shoot 2 or 3 under-par which then Oihan had to go 4 or 5 under-par. I definitely regret hitting driver Out of Bounds on the 17th hole. I had a 1 shot lead at the time and the only thing you can’t do on that hole I did so that is a major regret I have and then I unfortunately tried to make it up on the last hole and I missed a 1m30 putt for birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff.” Porsius went on to add that “I knew I had to play well this week. Unfortunately, it’ll be a few weeks until the next tournament where I will actually be in the field to defend the title so hopefully I can give myself another opportunity to grab a win this season. I will keep focused in these weeks off on the golf and what I’ve been working on as I finished 3rd last week and 2nd this week so results are coming.”

After the round, Porsius commented on how “I hit it a little bit better than yesterday but was able to hole some nice putts during the round which is always good, I enjoyed it for sure. Today was a really good day, I mainly focused to hit one shot at a time and it works nicely. I feel like the wind was less strong than yesterday, maybe it was just the difference in the two waves but that made it a bit easier but the conditions overall were quite similar to yesterday.” When preparing for tomorrow’s final round, he plans to “rest and do some stretches, I want to make sure my body stays in good shape.” Porsius got ill right before the start of the 2023 Croara Alps Open, subsequently he had to miss out on a few events, “it would mean so much to win tomorrow, after getting sick, I knew I needed to play well the remaining tournaments to get into the top 5 in the Order of Merit rank. A 3rd place in Tenerife and a win this week would mean I can skip first stage of DP World Tour Q-School and would put me in position to have a better chance of making it to the Challenge Tour next year.”

France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy who is just 18 years old, who was tied for the lead after yesterday’s 1st round, finds himself in 2nd place with a two-day total of 9 under-par after today’s round 2. After the round, Guillamoundeguy proudly commented: “that today was a great round. I take the momentum from the 15th hole for my great finish. I can say that my long game was definitely better than yesterday however my putting wasn’t as sharp.”  He went on to add that he finds Miglianico Golf & Country Clubin good shape. The greens are slightly soft but they were better today even though I didn’t make as many putts. My strategy was good and I will stick with the same plan tomorrow. I will try to just be myself in the final round and play the golf I know I can play and see what happens. I’ve been playing well but need to put all pieces together to try and earn my first professional win.”

Twenty-seven years old, Manfredi Manica from Italy, winner of the 2023 Aravell Golf Open by Creand, was tied for 19thplace yesterday but is now in a three-way tie for 3rd place with a total score of 8 under-par. After his round, Manica was very pleased, “I played very solid today especially my long game. I found that the course was playing slightly easier today. There was less wind and the pins were more accessible like the 6th and 8th hole.”

France’s Franck Medale is also in the three-way tie for 3rd place with a two-day total of 8 under-par alongside Manica. He is 28 years old and represents Golf EspalaisMedale is a winner on the Alps Tour as he captured the 2021 Open de La Mirabelle d’Or. Unfortunately, I missed a few opportunities that would have made it an even better round. I feel like I just have to keep putting myself in good position and let the putter do his magic to hopefully win another tournament.”

Xavier Poncelet from France is the third player in the three-way tie for 3rd place with a two-day score of 8 under-par. He shot a 5 under-par, 65 in today’s second round where he made 2 bogeys and 7 birdies. Poncelet has earned a win and various top 5 finishes over the years in his Alps Tour career. It was a beautiful sunny summer day with some light to moderate wind in the Abruzzo Region in Central Italy for the 1st round of the 12th tournament of the season, the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open. The tournament is being played at Miglianico Golf and Country Club in Miglianico, Italy. Play began at 7:30 am this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole. The forecast for the remainder of the week is expected to be similar to today which will allow players to have optimal scoring conditions.

This is the 9th edition of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open and players competing this week are trying to capture the decisive order of merit points that are on the line and make a move in the Order of Merit rank. The top 5 players in the rank at the end of the 2023 season will earn Challenge Tour cards for the 2024 season.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Spain’s Victor Garcia Broto, twenty-six-year-old, who represents Real Club de Golf El Prat is in a two-way tie for the lead at the conclusion of the 1st round of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open. He shot a 5 under-par,65 with 1 bogey on the 1st hole and then he made 6 birdies on the remaining 17 holes. Garcia Broto turned professional in October 2021 and he is a past winner on the Alps Tour as he captured the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Final. After his opening round, he was very happy especially after a bogey on the 1st hole: “It went pretty well, overall I’m very happy with my game. It was a consistent round, being in play most of the time, and I was able to make some good putts to post a good first round. It definitely wasn’t the best of starts, but some of the best rounds start with a bogey on the first, it’s just another hole and you have keep playing with the same intensity and try to turn it around.” Garcia Broto went on to comment that, “It was a bit windy and it was tricky to judge where the wind was coming from. I felt like it switched directions constantly and it made it difficult to judge some of the shots. But pretty happy with how I have handled it.” Looking ahead to what a win would mean to him, “It would mean a lot. Not just for winning, which is always very gratifying, also because it would put me in a position where I could fight for the Challenge Tour card at the end of the season and that is the main goal. I will continue doing my work on and off the course, trying to shoot as low as possible in the remaining rounds and hopefully that will give me a chance of winning the tournament on Saturday.”Oihan Guillamoundeguy from France, just eighteen years old, who represents Golf Club Seignosse is the second player tied for the lead after the 1st round at the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open. He shot a 5 under-par, 65 with 2 bogeys, 1 eagle and 5 birdies. He is a past winner on the Alps Tour having won the 2022 Red Sea Little Venice Open as an amateur. He turned professional in December 2022 and this is his first season as a professional player. So far, he has captured various top 5 finishes but is looking to breakthrough and grab his 1st title as a professional on the Alps Tour hopefully before the end of the season. After his 5 under-par round, Guillamoundeguy expressed his satisfaction: “today was a great round, I played really good. It wasn’t easy, it was windy so it was hard to hit some greens and judge where the wind was coming from. I would say that my putting was very good today. I changed putter recently and I feel good with it so I will definitely stick to this new putter now.” When asked about chasing his first win as a professional he added, “it would definitely be great. I’ve been playing well and now need to be able to put 3 good rounds together.”

Augustin Hole from France concluded his 1st round at the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open in a 7-way tie for 3rd place with a total score of 4 under-par,66. During today’s round he made 3 bogeys and 7 birdies. He is 26 years old and currently represents Biarritz Le Phare. After his opening round, Hole explained: “It was a good round today, considering that the wind was very swirling for most of the day. Especially after 6 holes. My goal is definitely to win an event before the end of the year. I just need to be more patient and a little bit more precise on some shots. I will keep doing what I am doing mostly, because it works fine but focusing on the little things I need to change. My strategy will be the same, you can be very aggressive this week as the greens are soft and a little bit slow.”

Netherland’s Davey Porsius is also in the 7-way tie for 3rd place after round 1 with a total score of 4 under-par, 66. He is 27 years old and represents Goyer Golf Club. During his opening round, Porsius made 1 bogey and 5 birdies. After he signed his card, his first reactions were: “It was okay, I hit a lot of greens but none of them were super close. However, I was able to make some important birdies coming down the stretch. To be honest, conditions are a bit different from usual, fairways are a bit higher than normal which makes it tough to judges distances.”

Alongside Hole and Porsius in the 7-way tie for 3rd place at 4 under-par: Estonia’s Sander Aadusaar, Spain’s Joel Moscateland Quim Vidal, France’s Franck Medale and Italy’s Ludovico Addabbo.

The 144 players from 15 different nations are competing for a prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner of the 9th edition of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
Round 2

The second round of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open will begin again at 7:30 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.

Spain’s Victor Garcia Broto will begin round 2 at 13:25 local time from the 10th hole and France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy will begin his second round at 8:25 am local time from the 1st hole.

8th August 2022 | Alps Tour Golf

Qualifying School for the 2023 Season, Entries are Now Open

August 8th, 2022 – It was the year 2005 when a young Alps Tour – only four-years old, at that time – first organized its own Qualifying School, in March, at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, in Morocco.

The Alps Tour and its Qualifying School have been growing since, both in numbers and reputation, producing some outstanding talents who would go on winning on the main Tours, like Englishman Matt Wallace, Spaniard Adria Arnaus, Frenchmen Victor Perez, Romain Langasque and Antoine Rozner, Italian Guido Migliozzi, just to name a few.

Now it’s time for the 19th edition of our Qualifying School and, as in the past two years, Italy will play host to the tournament won in 2021 by French amateur Martin Couvra (pictured), recently selected to represent his country in the World Amateur Team Championship alongside two fellow Alps Tour colleagues, Julien Sale (n. 2 in the current Alps Tour Order of Merit) and Tom Vaillant (n. 3).

The tournament that decides who is going to have access to our Tour in the 2023 Season and become the next rising golf stars will take place on two different courses for the First Stage and will move near Rome for the Final Stage.

With the Qualifying School, the Alps Tour confirms its goal of “Raising Golf Stars” – the tagline created in 2021 with the new logo for the 20 years of life of the tour – and opens the door to the future stellar careers of its most talented members.

The Alps Tour Qualifying School is open to male professionals belonging to a PGA or a recognized golf federation, and male amateurs with max hcp of 2,0.

The First Stage is scheduled on November 3rd and 4th over 36 holes; the applicants (78 players on each venue) will have to choose between Golf Club Le Fonti, 36 km from Bologna airport; and Miglianico Golf & Country Club, the traditional venue for eight edition of the Abruzzo Open, 250 km from Rome Fiumicino airport and 18 km from Pescara airport.

When applying for the tournament, the player must choose the venue (Le Fonti, or Miglianico) where he would like to play.

The Final Stage – with a total of 144 admitted players – will then take place on November 9th – 11th over 54 holes on two venues North of Rome, with two rounds alternated on Olgiata Golf Club, host of three Italian Opens (1973, 2002 & 2019), a prestigious “first” for the Alps Tour, and on Golf Nazionale, a Jim and George Fazio Design, with the last round on Golf Nazionale, the challenging and beautiful golf course owned by the Italian Golf Federation inaugurated with the World Cup back in 1991, and recently renovated.

The Final Stage is open to the players who qualified after the First Stage and to the exempt players – as the Alps Tour members ranked in the 2022 Order of Merit but not admitted to the Grand Final, or players who took part in the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship and/or the 2022 European Boys/Men Team Championships.

The Top 35 ranked players at the end of the Final Stage will obtain a full category (cat. 6) to play the Alps Tour events scheduled in 2023.

The entry deadline for both stages is October 10th.

Qualifying School 2021 – First Stage Round 2 Results – Donnelly, De Haas & Ferchaud Victors

November 5th, 2021 – And the winners are: Luke Donnelly from Ireland, Floris De Haas from the Netherlands and Hermes Ferchaud from France on each of the respective courses. The additional winners are the 22 other players at each venue who have qualified for the 2021 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage next week.

At the Miglianico Golf and Country Club, yesterday’s joint leader, Luke Donnelly, maintained his dominant position, carding a -7 (133) for the two rounds. Starting from the 1st tee, he had a birdie and a bogey for par on the front nine and then four birdies and two bogeys to finish on 68 (-2) for the day.

“Two very enjoyable days. The golf course was very good. I loved it from the first day I played it on Tuesday. Course was set up brilliantly by the Alps team. Greens were fantastic. Even after all the rain today they held up lovely.”

In second place was the Belgian, Giovanni Tadiotto, on -6 (134) after today’s round of 65 (-5) and in third place was yesterday’s joint leader, Joel Ramirez Martin the amateur player from Spain, on -3 (137) with a 72 (+2).

The cut for the 23 available slots at Miglianico Golf and Country Club, came at +4 (144) and there was a seven-way play-off for the five spots remaining. The two non-qualifiers take reserve positions for the Final Stage in the event of withdrawals.

Another leader from yesterday, Floris De Haas, held good at the Golf Club Le Fonti to win with -4 (138). The Dutch player had five birdies and four bogeys for a 70 (-1) today.

The course was very playable, and conditions were good but there was only one thing that we wanted to do which was to reach the Final Stage and go to Rome and we did that. I hope the course in Rome as good as this one as it was very enjoyable to play here at Le Fonti.”

Joint runners-up were two English players, Russell Chrystie, yesterday’s other joint leader and Adam Sagar on -2 (140). Chrystie shot a 71 (+1) today and Sagar a 68 (-3). At Golf Club Le Fonti the cut was at +8 (150).

Winner at the Acaya Golf Club was the French player Hermes Ferchaud at level par 142. One eagle, four birdies and a single birdie gave him a 66 (-5) for the round.

“It went pretty well over the two days. Overall, my game was good. I had a strong long game, and my putting was decent. But I was really helped by my best friend who came to caddy for me here and who will be with me in Rome now. He’s a great putter and was a great help with reading the lines. The first round was really difficult as, honestly, I’ve never played such a difficult course with so much wind, but I’m really happy.”

Yesterday’s joint leaders, Ben Schmidt from England and the Swedish player, Filip Lundell were just behind him on +1 (143) with the cut at +11 (154).

The players now head to Rome for the Final Stage which takes place at two adjacent course, the Golf Nazionale and Terre dei Consoli from November 10th to 12th where the ultimate battle for the precious cards for the 2022 Alps Tour season are at stake.

24th April 2021 | Alps Tour Golf

Victory for Vecchi Fossa at Abruzzo Alps Open

April 24th, 2021 – Pescara, Italy. Jacopo Vecchi Fossa raised his second trophy of the month after winning the Abruzzo Alps Open just two weeks after his win at the National Open Golf Championship on the very same course. The Italian who started as joint-leader today, said just yesterday that he was “turbo-charged”. Today he was in over-drive as he finished with -15 (198) here at the Miglianico Golf & Country Club which seems to be a lucky course for him:

“It’s a really good course for my game and I also really like the place where we are, it’s incredible. I played very well, I putted very well also, in fact all aspects of my game worked. Today was a little bit harder because of the wind and I made a mistake on the 3rd with a double bogey, but I hit my best shots on the difficult holes from 10 to 13 which I played very solidly so I’m happy”.

With a double-bogey, bogey, and six birdies for a card today of 68 (-3), Vecchi Fossa’s win puts him at the top of the Alps Tour Order of Merit after three tournaments.

We had been expecting a closely fought final day and we certainly had one. The notoriously difficult back nine proved to be decisive.

David Ravetto in joint second place on -12 (201) had a flawless round and was the only one of the top six players to avoid the back-nine traps to have a bogey-free card. The French player who won the 2020 Alps Tour Qualifying School started for home at just one stroke behind the leader at this point on -10. He added two more birdies on the back nine to his four on the front nine to really make his mark in what looks like a promising rookie season.

He is joined by his compatriot Pierre Pineau who started the round at -8. The Le Vaudreuil based golfer turned for home at -10 after three birdies and a bogey. The uphill 11th par 4 saw another bogey followed by a birdie on the tricky 12th, then two more birdies to place him as joint runner-up.

A trio of players share the fourth position at -11 (202), including yesterday’s joint leader, Edoardo Giletta. He took the lead on the 3rd when Vecchi Fossa double-bogeyed and was sitting pretty at the 7th on -15 after two more birdies when two disastrous double bogeys on the 8th and 9th saw him drop back to -11. His resilience showed on the back nine though when, despite two bogeys, he finished the round with birdies on the 17th and 18th.

Two amateurs are the other fourth-placed players. Tom Vaillant started the day in second place on -11. The French player had a fantastic front nine with two birdies and straight pars to be on -13, just one stroke behind the leader, his playing partner Vecchi Fossa. Despite a birdie on the 12th, three bogeys saw him finish at par for the day.

The Spanish amateur Joel Moscatel had a real ‘montada’ on the front nine. Teeing off at -6 he holed six birdies to rise to -12 heading for home. The infamous back nine took their toll where two more birdies could not compensate for the three bogeys to see him finish the day at 66 (-5).

The Alps Tour players now head to Umbria in central Italy for the Antognolla Open from Wednesday April 28th to Friday April 30th. All six at the top of today’s leader board are among the 138 players currently confirmed so we should have some interesting rounds ahead of us at the Antognolla Golf Club.
