The players head back to the Canary Islands for the 2022 Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera.

La Gomera, July 12th 2022- The tour heads back to the Canary Islands this week for the 2022 Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera. The tournament will be played at the iconic Tecina Golf from July 14th-16th. On July 13th, approximately 20 teams will participate in the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am. This will be the 3rd edition of the 2022 Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera after its previous two editions hosted in 2018 and 2019.  La Gomera has been a European destination for professional golf for the past 11 years, including hosting the Challenge Tour for 8 consecutive years.

As we are head towards the final stretch of the with the remaining 4 events, players are competing for important Order of Merits points. At the end of the season the top 5 players in the rank will gain access to the 2023 Challenge Tour season.

The Field-

Ten of this season past winners will attend the 2022 Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera: Stefano Mazzoli winner of the first tournament of the season the 2022 Ein Bay Open, Oihan Guillamoundeguy winner of the 2022 Red Sea Little Venice Open, Tomas Guimaraes Bessa winner at the 2022 New Giza Open, Adrien Pendaries winner at the Winter Series Terre dei Consoli, Mathias Eggenberger winner at the Winter Series Golf Nazionale, Manuel Morugan winner of the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open, Koen Kouwenaar winner at the 2022 Molinetto Alps Open, Tom Vaillant winner at the 2022 Open de la Mirabelle d’Or and the 2022 Aravell Golf Open by Crèdit Andorrà, Gary Hurley winner of the Alps de Andalucía and Davey Porsius winner at the 2022 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open.

Current Order of Merit Leader and most recent winner Italy’s Gregorio De Leo will not be in the field this week as he is taking a week off, however France’s Tom Vaillant (am) who is a two-time winner this season and second in the rank, as well as France’s Julien Sale (am) who is currently third in the rank will compete to try and secure their Challenge Tour status for next year.

There are 11 different nationalities represented among the estimated 85 players scheduled to play this week. The players will contend for a prize fund of € 40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The tournament winner will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The most recent tournament defending champion is Gonzalo Vicente Elena who won in 2019 with a score of 14 under-par.

The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play and a cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties.

The Course-

Tecina Golf will be played as a 6343 meters par 71 course. The course was designed by British architect Donald Steel, and is situated on the hill of Lomada de Tecina specifically on the Canary Island of La Gomera, which was declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 2012. The course overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and all the 18 holes are played facing the ocean. To reach the 1st tee, the players will need to climb up the hill and the course is played downhill from there. The course is set in the middle of a native Canary Islands vegetation such as banana and mango fruit trees succumbing to an unbelievable ambiance.

Gregorio De Leo captures his 2nd win of the season!

Soria, July 9th 2022- Gregorio De Leo 2nd victory of the season aids him in conquering his dream of becoming a Challenge Tour player next season. He captured his second win of the season at the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas with a total score of 14 under-par. Mathias Eggenberger concluded the tournament in 2nd place with a three-day score of 13 under-par. In a three-way tie for 3rd place at 12 under-par: Portugal’s Vitor Londot Lopes, Italy’s Giacomo Fortini and Netherland’s Lars Keunen.

The weather and scoring conditions have been constant throughout the past few days. When the first groups teed off, the temperature was in the low 20*, however the temperatures quickly rose to a high of 35* with no wind today making the scoring conditions very favorable for the players. Play began at 8:15 am and the leaders group teed off at 9:21am and 9:32am from the 1st hole.

Winner Quotes-

Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas by 1 stroke. He shot a final round of 5 under-par, that included 1 bogey and 6 birdies. He won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon with an unbelievable 59 in the final round, adding therefore another title to his record. His dream of playing on the Challenge Tour is gradually fulfilling thanks to his victory today. He dedicates his second professional win to his parents, coach Alain and girlfriend that have supported him all along the way. After his win, De Leo commented on how “the course was much firmer today especially around the greens it was much harder to make good recoveries. The pins were a good mix, some tricky ones you had to be careful and some were more accessible.”  When asked about his game today, he was very happy: “I’m very satisfied, yesterday I was expecting -15 to be the winning score and I was very close. Today I putted very very well. Today was an incredible day. I’m very happy. My putting definitely helped me a lot to win this week. I putted very well last week also which gave me more confidence into this week. The only mistake during the round was my 3-putt on the 10th hole so I could have reached what I expected be the winning score.” When asked about his plans for the rest of the season, De Leo explained: “I wasn’t expecting to win another tournament so I’m not sure yet how I will my strategy change going forward. I will speak to my coach once I’m home and decide what’s best. I would like to play maybe a couple Challenge Tour events to see how the courses are different and my game compares to their but we will see.”

Another of this season past winners Mathias Eggenberger, winner at 2022 Winter Series Golf Nazionale concluded the tournament in 2nd place just 1 stroke back. After his round, he was very happy with this week’s result and how his game is evolving: “Today was pretty good, can’t complain. I had a tough 1st round but coming back to finish the tournament at 13 under-par I’m happy.”

The tournament ends with a three-way tie for 3rd place at 12 under-par with Portugal’s Vitor Londot Lopes, Italy’s Giacomo Fortini and Netherland’s Lars Keunen. Just 1 stroke back in 6th place, Netherland’s Floris De Haas at 11 under-par.

Gregorio De Leo has now moved into 1st place of the Alps Tour Order of Merit ranking after his victory today, Tom Vaillant(am) has moved into 2nd place and France’s Julien Sale (am) into 3rd place.

Final Round –

Gregorio De Leo winner of the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas, earned 6,525 Order of Merit points and the winning check of €5,800.

The 2022 Alps de Las Castillas is ready to get underway.

Soria, July 5th 2022- The players head back south to Spain this week for the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas, the 14th event of the season. The event will be played at Club de Golf Soria from July 7th to the 9th. On July 6th, the traditional pro-am will be played with approximately 23 teams. This year, will be the 10th edition of the tournament even though it is the first time it will be hosted at this particular golf course. This is the 1st time that Club de Golf Soria will host an international professional golf tournament. This event has notable past champions which include Ryan Lumsden who now plays on the DP World Tour.

Daniel Berna Manzanares, an Alps Tour member, will be one of the hometown favorites this week as he represents Club de Golf Soria weekly in his events. He has two top 10s in his most recent tournament appearances and is looking for a positive week at home.

The Field-

The Course-

Club de Golf de Soria will be played as a 6279 meters par 72 course. Inaugurated in 2003, the course was designed by Target Ingenieros and specifically by Pinero & Alvaro Alonso de Noriega. It is located approximately 10 km from the provincial capital of Soria and next to the legendary Monte Valonsadero mountain. Towards the south of the course, it has amazing views of the Pico Frentes mountains. The course is integrated in a wood of ancient oak trees and is located 1,100 meters above sea level in a 72-hectare estate. The course is characterized by its highly varied layout which includes centenary oak trees and natural lagoons, demanding diversity of shots between the holes.

The Alps Tour heads to France for the Open de la Mirabelle D’Or.

Metz, June 8th 2022– After a week off, the tour moves to the Northeastern Grand Est Region in France for the Open International de la Mirabelle D’Or. The tournament will be played from June 10th until June 12th at Golf Domaine de la Grange Aux Ormes near Metz, France.  On June 9th, the traditional pro-am with 40 teams will be played.

The tournament has reached its 19th edition this year, however it has been part of the Alps Tour schedule since 2005.  The event has had various winners over the years, including Italy’s Lorenzo Gagli and Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey who are now DP World Tour Players. The current defending champion is France’s Franck Medale who won in 2021 with a score of 14 under-par. On May 30th, a qualifier event was played at the tournament host, Golf Domaine de la Grange Aux Ormes, that offered players the opportunity to qualify for the extra 7 available spots in this week’s event.

The Field-

Participating in this week’s field is current Order of Merit Leader, Netherland’s Koen Kouwenaar in addition to the other top 8 players in the current rank: Gregorio De Leo, Stefano Mazzoli, Tomas Bessa Guimaraes, Pierre Pineau, amateur Julien Sale, Mathias Eggenberger and amateur Tom Vaillant, all of whom are trying to capture the 2022 Open de La Mirabelle D’Or title.

It is sure to be a very compelling week to watch as all of this season’s previous winners except for Marcus Brier, winner of the 30th Gösser Open, are scheduled to compete. As each player strives to capture their second season win, they will also strive to improve their current position in the Order of Merit rank. Current defending champion, France’s Franck Medale will be one of the many French players representing their country at the 19th Open International de la Mirabelle D’Or, as a strong home field is expected.

Seven players were able to qualify at the qualifier that was held on May 30th, 4 of which are professional players and 3 amateur players. The qualifier was won by Thomas Dorier with a score of 63.

There will be 144 players from 20 different nationalities competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 2022 Open International de la Mirabelle D’Or will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. It is a 54 holes stroke play tournament where a cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties.

The Course-

Golf Domaine de la Grange Aux Ormes in Metz, France is a 6436 meters par 70 course. Designed by Philippe Gourdon, it is placed on an undulating terrain that offers various different challenges to each player. The golf course is outlined by century old trees and water hazards, yet provides views of the surrounding countryside as well as of Val Messin. The château in the background is the estate’s signature view. The fairways are relatively broad but the dense rough can penalize any inconsistent tee shot. Golf Domaine de la Grange Aux Ormes is home to 27 holes, an 18 holes course called “Le Bois Brûlé” and a 9 holes course called “Le Breuil”. “Le Bois Brûlé” has been the longtime host of this tournament.
