Round 1 Players’ Quotes

Spain’s Manuel Morugan, 34, a past winner on the Alps Tour, surged to the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2025 Parma Alps Open with an impressive 8 under-par, 64. His only blemish came on the 18th hole, his ninth of the day, but he more than made up for it with 9 birdies, including a strong run on holes 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14. Reflecting on his round, Morugan was pleased with his all-around performance. “My putting was exceptional today, and I only missed one green—I hit 17 greens in regulation, which gave me a lot of chances,” he said. “Everything was working well.” Looking ahead, he believes that smart positioning off the tee will be crucial. “In my opinion, the key for the next two days will be hitting as many fairways as possible,” Morugan explained. “The greens are firm, so you must have the ball in a good lie to hit your approach shot aggressively. Otherwise, you need to play it safer.” With just two rounds remaining, he is maintaining his focus on the task at hand. “I’m not focused at all on the Order of Merit,” he said. “I’m just concentrating on playing my game the best I can and enjoying every round. I never look at the leaderboard, and that’s what I’ll continue to do over the next two days.”

Italy’s Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, 31, finds himself in 2nd place with a 7 under-par, 65 after the 1st round. Currently ranked third in the Alps Tour Order of Merit with 23,525.48 points, he is looking to strengthen his position ahead of next week’s season finale. A proven contender on the Alps TourVecchi Fossa has multiple career victories, including winning the 2021 Order of Merit, which earned him status on what is now the HotelPlanner Tour. In today’s round, he got off to a fast start with an eagle on the 12th hole, followed by birdies on the 14th, 16th, and 18th holes. He kept the momentum going with additional birdies on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th holes, with his only blemish of the day being a bogey on the 6th hole. After posting a nearly flawless opening round, Vecchi Fossa credited his strong play and consistent approach as the keys to his performance. “It was a great round,” he said. “I played well, and I putted very well, too. The greens are very firm, and you need to hit good shots into them—I was able to do that well today.” Looking ahead, the 31-year-old has no plans to change his strategy. “Over the next two days, I want to do the same thing as I did today,” Vecchi Fossa explained. “I’m not the type of player who changes plans or strategy between rounds. I just need to keep playing well without thinking about the other players, the leaderboard, or the Order of Merit.” While there may be pressure at this late stage of the season, Vecchi Fossa is focused on staying present. “I’m taking this tournament like any other event. Maybe if I have a risky shot, I’ll think about it twice, but I want to keep playing my own game, which has been really good lately, and enjoy every round.”

Paul Margolis, 26, from France, who has previously won on the Alps Tour as an amateur in 2021, is in a 6-way tie for 3rd place at 6 under par. He turned professional at the end of 2021 and has since earned various top-10 finishes, including his win. Margolis began his round on the 1st hole and quickly found momentum, making four birdies in a row, on the back-nine, he made a bogey on hole 11 before making 3 more birdies on holes 13,14 and 15 to close out his day. After his round, Margolis reflected on his performance, “My round was very chill today, to be honest,” he said. “I hit the ball good off the tee, and I putted well too; that was probably the best part of my game.” The setup of the course stood out to him. “The greens were so firm and fast today, it felt like we were playing a mini–US Open out here. That surprised me as it was unexpected,” he added. Margolis got off to a dream start, which set the tone for the rest of his round. “Beginning my round with four birdies in a row gave me a lot of confidence, especially making two long putts on Holes 2 and 3,” he said. “When you know you have the speed dialed in, it’s easier to attack the flag.” Despite the strong showing, he remains realistic about his position in the season-long standings. “I’m not thinking about the Order of Merit, to be honest. I know I’m still far away and need two very good results to make something happen,” he admitted. “So I’m just focused on myself and trying to hit the best shot I can on every shot. It’s a simple thing—but hard to do. Today’s main goal was to do that, and I believe I did it well, and that’s the plan for the next two days too.”

Italy’s Davide Buchi, 29, navigated the opening round of the tournament with a bogey-free 6 under-par, 66 to be in a 6-way tie for 3rd place. He began the day on the front nine holes, where he carded birdies on holes 1, 3, and 4. Once he made the turn to the back nine, he added three more birdies on holes 11,13, and 16. Reflecting on his round, Buchi was pleased with how he handled the course. “It went very well,” he said. “I played very well from tee to green today. I hit some good iron shots into the greens and kept the right attitude to stay under par.” Course management, he noted, was key. “I didn’t hit a lot of drivers out here,” he explained. “I found it to be more of a strategy course, so it’s really about placing the ball in the right spots and having good yardages into the greens as they are very firm.” As for the bigger picture, Buchi is keeping things simple. “I’m just focused on hitting good shots and trusting the process,” he said. “I’m not paying much attention to the leaderboard or the rankings, right now, I’m really just focused on my own golf.”

Spain’s Jorge Maicas, 28, winner of the 2025 Gösser Open and currently 8th in the Order of Merit, sits in the 6-way tie for 3rd place after the opening round of the tournament. He is looking for a solid performance this week to try and make a move in the standings. Maicas opened his round on the 1st hole and carded three birdies on the front nine. On the back nine, he added four more birdies, with a single bogey being the only blemish on his card, finishing with a 6 under-par, 66. “The day went really well overall,” Maicas said after his round. “The weather was pretty good, which definitely helped with the results. I was driving the ball really well and hitting a lot of greens in regulation, which gave me plenty of birdie opportunities.” Looking ahead, he knows what it will take to stay in contention. “The key for the next couple of days will be to stay patient on the greens and accept mistakes when they come,” he noted. “I’m not really thinking about the ranking right now. I’m just focused on taking it day by day and putting together some solid rounds.”

Asier Aguirre Izcue, 26, from Spain, the winner of the 2025 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, also finds himself in the 6-way tie for 3rd place. Currently sitting 10th in the Order of Merit, Aguirre Izcue is aiming for a strong finish this week to climb further up the rankings and secure his spot among the top contenders. Starting his round on the 10th hole, Aguirre Izcue opened with a bogey but quickly turned things around with a string of birdies on holes 12, 13, 14, and 18. On his inward nine—the course’s front nine, he added another birdie at the 1st hole, offset by a bogey on the 3rd hole, before picking up two more birdies on the 4th and 7th holes. He signed for an opening round of six-under-par 66, putting himself in a strong position early in the week. “Very good, very tidy, and with very few mistakes,” he said when assessing his round. “Overall, everything worked well. I was in a good position the whole time, and the putting worked well. It was probably the best aspect of the day.”  Looking ahead, Aguirre Izcue knows consistency will be crucial. “I think continuing to make as few mistakes as possible and sinking putts will be the key,” he added. “It’s hard not to think about the ranking, but I try to stay in the present and take it one round at a time.”

Joining MargolisBuchiMaicas, and Aguirre Izcue at 6 under-par 66 after the opening round are Spain’s Borja Martin and France’s Paul Franquet, rounding out a tightly packed group in pursuit of the lead.

5th September 2025 | Alps Tour Golf

Javier Barcos moves into the lead after Day 2 at the 2025 Longwy Alps Open.

Longwy, September 5th, 2025 – After two rounds of the 2025 Longwy Alps Open, the competition remains wide open, with a tightly packed leaderboard setting the stage for an exciting final day. Spain’s Javier Barcos holds the outright lead at 11 under-par, closely followed by compatriot Manuel Morugan, just one shot back at 10 under-par. Italy’s Ludovico Addabbo sits in solo third at 9 under-par, while a three-way tie for 4th place at 7-under-par includes Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, Spain’s Borja Martin, and Italy’s Mattia Comotti all well within striking distance as the tournament heads into its decisive final round.

With the 2025 Alps Tour season rapidly approaching its conclusion, this week’s tournament is proving to be more than just another stop on the schedule; it’s a defining moment in the race for Order of Merit points. As players battle for position in the season standings, each round takes on heightened significance, especially with just a handful of events remaining before the all-important Alps Tour Grand Final.

The fight for a top-five finish in the Order of Merit at the end of the season and promotion to the 2026 HotelPlanner Tour is reaching a crucial point. For some, this week is about maintaining momentum and tightening their grip on a coveted spot; for others, it’s a critical opportunity to surge up the rankings and keep their season dreams alive. Every swing carries weight, and the pressure is unmistakably high.

The 2025 Longwy Alps Open is in its second year on the Alps Tour calendar. The tournament returned this year following a strong debut last season, when France’s Damien Perrier emerged victorious.

Round 2 Player Quotes

Spain’s Javier Barcos, 23, made a significant move up the leaderboard on Friday at the 2025 Longwy Alps Open. After opening the tournament with a solid 3 under-par, 69 that had him tied for 15th place, Barcos delivered a brilliant second-round 8 under-par, 64 to take the outright lead with a two-day total of 11-under-par. Barcos, the winner of the 2025 New Giza Open and current Alps Tour Order of Merit leader, continued to show the consistent, high-level play that has defined his season. His second round featured five birdies and one bogey on the front nine, followed by an eagle, three additional birdies, and another bogey on the back nine, an impressive display of control and scoring under pressure. Reflecting on his round, Barcos shared: “It was one of those rounds that pretty much everything went well. I hit it good, and I made a couple of great putts that got my round going.” Unlike some players who had to return early Friday to complete their first round due to Thursday’s weather delay, he noted, “I was lucky enough to finish yesterday, so I was able to do my normal routine this morning, which was nice.” Despite the lingering effects of the rain, he felt the course conditions held up well: “It was cold the first few holes, and the ball traveled a little less, which you had to account for. Then the course actually drained really well for how much it rained yesterday, so it was nice to see.” With his position at the top of the Order of Merit and just a few events left in the season, Barcos admitted it’s difficult to block out the bigger picture: “I mean, it’s hard to not think about it, especially before each tournament. But once it’s time to play, I just try to focus on what is going on in the present and play from there.” Looking ahead to the final round, Barcos remains focused on consistency: “I think about doing the same things I have been doing these past two days, keep focused and just think on what is in front of me, and trust I can hit good shots.” He also spoke about managing the mental side of the game between rounds: “I tried to just be with my friends in between rounds to disconnect from golf. After that, just think of what is in front of you every time, which is easy to say but not that easy to do. Still, you just have to realize when your mind starts wandering somewhere else and bring it back to the present.”

In solo second place with a two-day total of 10 under-par is Spain’s Manuel Morugan, 34, winner of the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open, who fired a bogey-free 7 under-par, 65 in today’s second round. His scorecard included birdies on holes 2, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, and 16. Speaking after his round, Morugan shared: “I obviously played well, but I was very calm all day today. This is probably my last Alps Tour event, so I came here with the mindset to enjoy it as much as I can. I didn’t have a specific goal in mind—I just wanted to have fun and enjoy every moment.” Looking ahead, he added: “If I end up winning tomorrow, we will see what happens—I’ll think about it then. I’m not entirely sure what I will do. For now, I’ll focus on tomorrow and do the same thing as I did today. I’ll enjoy it either way it goes. Hopefully I’ll have a positive outcome, but no matter what, that’s the only target I’ll have tomorrow.”

Ludovico Addabbo, 26, from Italy, followed up his opening round of 1 under-par, 71 with an impressive 7 under-par, 65 in today’s second round to move into contention at 8 under-par. He began his day with 3 birdies and 1 bogey on the front-nine, but truly found his rhythm on the back nine, going on a birdie run with on holes 11, 12, 14, 16, and 18 to close out a strong round and position himself firmly in the hunt heading into the final day. Reflecting on his round, Addabbo said: “I played great golf from tee to green, I hit all 18 greens in regulation. The only regret is missing four putts inside two meters, but overall, it was a really solid round.” He also commented on the quick turnaround after completing his first round earlier in the morning due to Thursday’s weather delay: “Staying focused during the break wasn’t too difficult. We restarted at eight and my second-round tee time was at nine, so there wasn’t much downtime between rounds.” Currently outside the top spots on the season-long standings, Addabbo acknowledged the pressure: “I haven’t played my best golf this season, so of course I’m thinking about the Order of Merit. I need some strong results to keep my category for next year.” Looking ahead to the final round, his strategy remains clear and disciplined: “This is a relatively tight course, so I’ll stick to the same plan, keep the ball in play, even if that means giving up a bit of distance and leaving myself some long irons into par fours. The key is to stay steady, maybe hit more irons off the tee, take advantage of the par fives, and give myself as many chances as possible.”

A total of 46 players including 4 amateurs made the cut which was set at 143 (-1).

The Final Round will begin at 8:50 a.m. local time from the 1st hole. The Final Pairing will tee off at 12:20 p.m. local time from the 1st hole.

26th June 2025 | Alps Tour Golf

Ignacio Arcaya and Javier Calles Roman Share Lead After Day One at 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand.

Aravell, June 26th, 2025 – After the first round of the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand, the leaderboard is tightly packed with exciting contenders. France’s Ignacio Arcaya and Spain’s Javier Calles Roman share the lead, both carding an impressive 8-under-par 63. In solo third place is Spain’s Javier Sainz at 7-under. Just one stroke back, a two-way tie for fourth place features fellow Spaniards Ruben Pardo Rodriguez and Manuel Morugan, keeping the competition fierce early on.

The first round of the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand teed off this morning at 8:00 a.m. local time at Aravell Golf & Country Club, near Aravell in Lleida, Spain. Players began from both the 1st and 10th tees under mostly sunny skies; however, a persistent wind picked up during the afternoon, making conditions significantly more challenging.

This year marks the 4th edition of the tournament, originally created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Aravell Golf & Country Club, the host venue designed by two-time Masters Champion Jose Maria Olazábal.

Round 1 Player Quotes

France’s Ignacio Arcaya, 24, who is still seeking his first victory on the Alps Tour despite multiple top-10 finishes, co-leads after the opening round of the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand with an impressive 8-under-par 63. His standout round included an eagle on the par-5 4th hole, eight birdies on holes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, and 18, and a single bogey on the 15th hole. Reflecting on his performance, Arcaya said, “It was a very solid round. I made a couple of long putts at the beginning which got the round going in the right direction. From there it was about executing the game plan and staying aggressive.” He highlighted his birdie on the 9th — “a long par 3” —as a key moment, adding, “Making a 10-meter putt for birdie there was a bonus.” Arcaya credited his all-around performance and comfort with course conditions: “Today every part of the game was solid, so I will try to keep doing what I am doing. The conditions were ideal today. I found the greens to be a bit faster than during the previous days, so had to adjust for that.” Looking ahead, he noted, “My main focus for the next few days is to commit to my shots and my strategy.”

Javier Calles Roman, 23, from Spain, co-leads the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand after posting a fabulous 8-under-par 63 in the opening round. The young Spaniard, who secured his first professional title earlier this year at the 2025 Lacanau Alps Open, made 10 birdies and just two bogeys on the challenging, windy afternoon — bogeying holes 5 and 9. Calles Roman turned professional in May 2024 and has quickly made his mark on the tour. Reflecting on his opening round, he said, “It was a really great performance tee to green today. I left myself plenty of chances, which was the key.” Despite the challenging conditions, he remained confident: “The wind picked up a lot, which changed the strategy on some holes for me, but I stayed aggressive and didn’t let the situation affect me.”Looking ahead, Calles Roman emphasized the importance of maintaining focus. “It’s obviously very nice to be on top early. It sets the goal for the rest of the week. My focus for the rest of the week will be to keep focusing on myself and my strategy and be ready to adapt if situations or conditions change.” He added, “I have it in my mind all the time to try and win a second tournament this season. That’s all I think about—it helps me focus and play aggressively. Let’s see what happens this week. It’s a great start.”

Javier Sainz, 32, of Spain, holds third place after an opening round of 7-under-par 64. Starting on the 1st hole, Sainzcarded five birdies on the front nine. After making the turn, he added three more birdies and a single bogey to close out an impressive first round. “It was a solid game tee to green,” Sainz said. “I’m happy to put a low score in the wind this afternoon. The highlight of the day may have been the good birdie I made on Hole 8 from 192 meters,” he said. “I hit a bad drive left, but after that, I hit the best shot of the day.” A former Alps Tour member, for several years before moving up to the HotelPlanner Tour, formerly known as the Challenge TourSainz has won the 2024 Spanish Professionals Championship and the 2023 II?Barcelona Open by Pablo Larrazábal. He also claimed his first HotelPlanner Tour victory at the 2022 Farmfoods Scottish Challenge. Looking ahead, Sainz plans to stick to his process. “For the next two days, I’ll just focus on every shot and keep playing my own game,” he said. “Every week for me is the same no matter what tour I’m competing on, but maybe the experience I have helps me to be calmer in certain situations.” He added: “Being back in contention is amazing for me because I needed a low round to believe more and more in my game.”

Spain’s Ruben Pardo Rodriguez, 23, sits in a two-way tie for fourth place after firing a 6-under-par, 65 in the opening round of the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. His round featured an eagle on the par-5 4th hole, seven birdies on holes 2, 3, 5, 7, 13, 14, and 18, and three bogeys on holes 1, 9, and 15. “It was a really good round, solid from the tee and I stayed patient with the putter,” Pardo Rodriguez said. He pointed to a hot stretch between holes 2 and 7, where he went to six under par, as the highlight of the day, especially with the eagle on the 4th“The truth is that I’m very happy with my tee shots, I think it’s the most important part of my game on this course,” he noted. “Today’s performance gives me confidence going into the next rounds. The key now is to play with the same belief I had today and give myself a chance on Saturday.”

Alongside Pardo Rodriguez, in the two-way tie for 4th place with a first-round score of 6-under-par 65, is fellow Spanish player Manuel Morugan, 34. During his opening round, he made five birdies on the front nine and added two more birdies and a single bogey on the back nine to close out his day. Morugan, a past winner on the Alps Tour, reflected positively on his performance: “It was a good round! My game was very solid in all aspects, and having my mental coach here with me this week helped a lot.” Focused more on process than the position, he added, “For me, it’s not important to be at the top, what matters is doing things correctly and following my process. If that leads to being on top or close to the top of the leaderboard, then that’s even better.” He emphasized that everything felt in sync today: “Everything was perfect today, and the focus now is to maintain that same mindset and keep working on the things I’ve been practicing.”

Christos Pantazidis, 22, from Greece, is in a 6-way tie for 6th place after the first round of the 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand. He shot a bogey-free 5-under-par 66, making two birdies on the front nine and three more on the back. “Today the conditions were great, and I played flawless golf,” said Pantazidis“I hit 18 out of 18 greens in regulation and missed only two fairways.” He highlighted his second shot on the par-5 18th, an accurate 3-wood that set up an easy two-putt birdie, as the standout moment of the round. Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of his early momentum: “Putting yourself on top of the leaderboard early is important, it gives you confidence and makes it easier to stay there.” As for his strategy, Pantazidis plans to “focus on playing steady golf, giving myself birdie opportunities, and staying in the present which is also key.” He also noted that the layout of Aravell Golf & Country Club suits his game: “This course demands accuracy off the tee, and that’s one of my strengths.”

Joining Pantazidis in the 6-way tie for 6th place at 5-under-par 66: Italy’s Luca Cavalli and Davide Buchi, France’s Augustin Holé and Baptiste Achard as well as Jerry Ji from the Netherlands.

The 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand is contested over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 professionals and ties, along with any amateurs within the cut line. In the event of a tie at the end of the final round, the winner will be decided by a sudden-death playoff.

The tournament offers a total prize fund of €42,500 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The 2025 Aravell Golf Andorra Open by Creand winner will take home €6,200 and earn 6,525 points toward the Order of Merit standings.

There is a 2-way tie for 3rd place at 8 under-par that includes: France’s Benjamin Kedochim and Spain’s Borja Martin.

The first round of the 2nd tournament of the 2024 Winter Series, the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open, played on courses B&C at the beautiful Sokhna Golf Club in Suez, Egypt, began this morning at 7:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. Like last week, players can compete under favorable weather conditions this week as blue skies and temperatures that could reach a high of 25° Celsius are expected even if, during the afternoon, some light to moderate winds are forecasted.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Spain’s twenty-eight years old, Mario Galiano Aguilar shot a 10 under-par, 62 in the 1st round of the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open to lead by 1 stroke. With today’s incredible round, Galiano Aguilar ties the current course record which was already set at 10 under-par. He has earned several Top 10 finishes on the Alps Tour throughout his playing career but is looking to break through and earn his 1st win on the tour, “I had the opportunity in a couple of tournaments to win but I knew my game wasn’t ready to win. However, now I feel my game is ready to win and I’m very confident. If it’s not going to be this week, it’ll be another week, but I know I’m competitive enough. I’m very focused and determined on this year’s goal which is to win tournaments.” During today’s 10 under-par, 62 round, Galiano Aguilar made 1 bogey and 6 birdies on the front nine and then added 5 more birdies on the back nine to conclude his fabulous round. After he signed his card, Galiano Aguilar commented, “I wasn’t aware of what the course record was, but I knew my lowest round ever was a -9, so I really tried the last three holes to get to -10, and I’m obviously very happy about it.”  He added that he made a change between the 2024 Ein Bay Open and this week’s event, “I usually putt with a marked line on my ball however today I didn’t use it, I just put my ball down with no line and was trying to feel more the line and the aim I wanted. I hope it works well the next two days like it did today. I made this change because last week I hit the ball extremely well, but my putting was very disappointing. Today the putter finally worked, and I was able to put together a good round, I was -4 in my first 6 holes and that gave me good confidence for the rest of the day.”

Francesco Santoni, twenty-five years old from Italy, finds himself in 2nd place with a 1st round score of 9 under-par, 63, and only 1 shot off the lead. He began his round by making 4 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine and then went on to make 6 more birdies on the back nine to conclude his day. After his round, he commented: “Today was a really good day overall, as you can expect with a -9, but to be honest with you, while I was out on the course, I didn’t realize the round I was putting together. I realized the round I did while coming off the 18th green. I worked a lot this off-season with my coach Alain Vergari. We worked a lot on my swing to try and gain more consistency and the results I saw today were satisfying. I did the first step, which was putting together today’s round, but tomorrow, I want to go out there and keep doing what I was doing today and put together another good round, if not better than today.”

Twenty-nine years old, Benjamin Kedochim from France concluded his first round of the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open with an 8 under-par, 64 and finds himself in a two-way tie for 3rd place alongside Spain’s Borja Martin.  He teed off on the 10th hole where he made 3 birdies and 1 eagle. After making the turn, he went on to make 4 more birdies and 1 bogey to conclude his day. Kedochim has earned a number of top 5 finishes in his career but is looking to capture his 1st title: “I’ve been close several times in the past 2 years to earn a win but I don’t think I was missing something specific I just need to keep playing my best every day and sometimes you have a little extra luck which is what you need to win and other times you won’t get it.”  He also explained that: “today I began the day with a few lip outs, but I tried to stay in the moment as I told myself they will drop so I tried to stay patient. I’m really trying to play shot by shot like I did last season and made a good putt on 14 which got me into the round. I struggled with my putting during the first event of the season, so I worked a lot on it before we started this tournament and I’m pleased with the results I saw today. I had a stretch of 6 holes where I made 3 big putts and that helped a lot.”

Spain’s twenty-four-year-old Borja Martin is the 2nd player in the two-way tie for 3rd place at 8 under-par with a great bogey-free round. He made 1 birdie on the front nine for a front-nine score of 35 and after making the turn at 1 under-par, he made 5 birdies and 1 eagle to close out in 29 for a total score of 64, 8 under-par. After his round, Martin commented that today, “I played pretty well on the front side but wasn’t able to take advantage of a couple of good situations I had. However, on the back nine, I kept hitting good shots and was able to make some important putts. On the few holes I hit a few bad tee shots, I managed to recover and made par on those holes.”  He found that the conditions at Sokhna Golf Club, “were great. The wind made a few holes a bit tougher on the front nine, but it stopped for the back nine luckily. The main difference I found is if you play in the morning, the greens are nicer, while in the afternoon, it’s tougher to make putts.”

The competitors in this week’s event are battling it out for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points.

The winner of the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

Como, May 24th 2023- After the 1st round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, we have a tight leaderboard. Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele leads the way after a bogey-free 7 under-par 63. Tied for 2nd place only 2 strokes back: Finland’s Eemil Alajarvi and Spain’s Manuel Morugan.  There is a 6-way tied for 4th place at 4 under-par that includes: Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue, Italian amateur Mattia Comotti, France’s Alexandre Daydou, Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Italy’s Filippo Bergamaschi and his compatriot Elia Dallanegra (am).

The first round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, being played at Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy started with pleasant weather conditions. It was a sunny day with occasional clouds and some light winds with temperatures around 22°C. However, in the early afternoon, the weather became overcast with some thunderstorms in the area. At 7:04 pm play was suspended due to inclement weather in the area with only a few groups per side left to conclude their round. Luckily play resumed at 7:30pm which allowed the players to finish the 1st round. Some moderate rain is expected for tomorrow especially in the morning but for Friday’s final round a beautiful sunny day is forecasted with temperatures around 27°C.

Round 1 Player Quotes –

Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele, 22 years old leads by 2 strokes after his great 1st round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. He shot a bogey-free, 7 under-par opening round. He currently sits in 3rd place in the Order of Merit Rank and captured his 1st professional win at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas which took place at the end of April. Van der Weele was really happy with his performance at the conclusion of his 1st round: “My game was really good today, I started off well, I made a nice putt on 1 to kickstart the round, I teed off on 10. My putting and short game was really good and it needs to be like that to make a bogey-free round. My game is in a good place right now and I would like to take advantage.” He went on to add on how his home course in the Netherlands is very similar to GC La Pinetina“The course is really beautiful, especially the back nine. There are some holes that are very pretty with a lot of trees. This course is more strategic and you need to be very precise using a lot of irons of the tees. The rough is nice and high so your short game needs to be good if you want a good round. I really like it and I’m very comfortable on it as it’s very similar to my home course.” Van der Weele plans on “taking it a day at the time and playing one shot at a time and one hole at a time for the next two rounds. Tomorrow is a new day and I will go from scratch and see what happens. I obviously would like to win another event, that’s my nature but I will try to play my best and see what the outcome will be.”Eemil Alajarvi from Finland, 23 years old, concluded his 1st round with a 5 under-par 65 and is one of the two players tied for 2nd place only 2 strokes back. He made 1 eagle, 4 birdies and 1 bogey in his round. He turned professional in 2021 and this is his third season playing on the Alps Tour. After his round, Alajarvi commented on how well he played, “It was a solid day. I hit very well from the tee so it was easy to get good birdie chances. I enjoy playing here, I think the course fits me very well. The last tournament was very rainy in Austria, so I’m not worried about the forecast. Obviously, my goal for the season is to earn one of the cards that will allow me to gain access to the Challenge Tour next season.”

Spain’s Manuel Morugan who represents Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf is the second player tied for 2nd place at 5 under-par. He made 3 birdies on the front nine and 2 birdies, 1 eagle and 2 bogeys on the back nine for a 65. Morugan has obtained numerous good results on the Alps Tour over the years and captured his first win on the tour last season at the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open.

In the 6-way tied currently for 4th place at 4 under-par: Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue, Italian amateur Mattia Comotti, France’s Alexandre Daydou, Netherland’s Lars Keunen and Italy’s Filippo Bergamaschi and his compatriot Elia Dallanegra (am).

Alfredo Migliorini had the highlight of the day making a hole-in-one during today’s first round on the par 3 17th hole from 158 meters with an 8 iron.

Round 2 Player Quotes-

Daniel Berna Manzanares, who was the first-round leader, shot a 4 under-par in round 2, for a two-day total of 14 under-par and is co-leading entering the final round. He turned professional in 2015 and has been an Alps Tour player since. After his round, Daniel commented, “I really like the design of this golf course, the par 3 are difficult and the par 5 are very fun to play. I think my strategy is what has helped me the most so far this week. I’m leaving myself a lot of shots between 120 and 160 which I really like.” When asked about his strategy heading into the final round, tied for the lead, he responded, “Tomorrow I want to enjoy it like I enjoyed it today and if I have some luck and win it will be even better, it’s been a good week so far and I’m happy.”

Tom Vaillant, last week’s winner, is co-leading after two rounds with a total score of 14 under-par. In round 2, he shot a bogey-free 6 under-par round. When Tom finished today’s round, he was pleased with his game even if he didn’t play as well as yesterday, “game was great, not as good as yesterday but still very solid. The course played slightly differently today due to the wind but I kept my same strategy and it definitely worked. Tomorrow I want to approach it the same as every other day, do my best, give 100% and never give up and see what happens.”

Manuel Morugan, winner of the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open, shot the lowest round of the day with an 8 under-par 63. With today’s round, Manuel is tied for 5th place and 4 shots back of the lead. Manuel was very pleased with his golf game so far this week: “I played well both days. Today I just made a lot more putts because I played identical both days. Today I also tried to focus more on playing a good golf game compared to being focused on the results. It was a perfect day with perfect conditions to shot a good round of golf.” Manuels win came from 3 shots back so he knows what it’s like being in this position, “I am just going to focus on hitting the best shots I can hit and play my best golf. If I am able to do that, I know I will have a chance tomorrow.”
