Kim in the hunt for a maiden win
Italy’s Joon Kim shot back to back 67 in Open Castello di Tolcinasco. He leads the way heading to last round with -10 total, on shot clear of fellow countryman Nicolo Quintarelli. Kim is still in the hunt for his maiden win on Alps Tour.
The weather was perfect again in Pieve Emmanuele, south of Milano but the temperature in the afternoon was close to 40° on the fairways and greens. Kim took advantage of his early start 8:36 to holed 7 birdies. Quintarelli was in morning’s group as well. He played flawless round of 66.
France’s Thomas Elissalde is the third man on the provisional podium. The player from Biarritz signed for 67.
This week is massive as far as results are concerned. Top 6 of Alps Tour ranking will go directly to Stage 2 of European Tour Q School. From 5th to 8th position, all players missed th cut, -2 this week. (Stefano Pitoni, Fabien Marty, Tom Shadbolt, Robin Goger)

Léo Lespinasse could take 6th place thanks to second place tie or better. Same chance for Aron Zemmer and Raphaël Marguery but they should finish second on their own or better.

Verselin fired 64 in Marcilly

Jean-Pierre Verselin of France took a narrow advantage of one shot over fellow countryman Damien Perrier with first round 64, -7 in Open Marcilly. Italy’s Andrea Maestroni, who won the trophy in 2004, is two shots back of the lead alongside compatriot Joon Kim and Darius Van Driel of Netherlands.
Verselin, 25, holed 9 birdies and dropped 2 shots to sign for the best score of the day. The young player, Alps Tour winner in 2014, is struggling with his game this season and needs some good results to keep his card next year.
On his toes, Damien Perrier, one of the most consistent player this season. He recorded a flawless 65 and once again is on top of the leaderboard. He was playing in the last group last Sunday and his game is still sharp.
Another man is chasing his first win of the season and his maiden one as a pro, Darius Van Driel. Van Driel had a fourth runner place last week and keeps on riding on the momentum.
The projected cut is -1.

Kim starts hot in Italy

Italy’s Joon Kim signed for flawless 64, -8, to lead the 2015 Servizitalia Open by one stroke. Spain’s Gerard Piris had one dropped shot for a 65 card, third tie France’s Julien Gressier and Matt Pavon who both signed for 66.
The sun was very generous on the course of Golf Club Lignano during opening round of the last event on Alps Tour before summer break. It was very hot and most of the players had to suffer from the heat. But the scores were really good and the projected cut is already -2 after only 18 holes.
The challenge this week is to stay or to enter the Top 6 of the Alps tour ranking to avoid playing the Stage 1 of European Tour Q School to go straight to the stage 2. In case of a win, Joon Kim could enter the ranking but it is not only on his shoulders as the others players will battle to earn precious points.
Piris as well, winner in Italy in May, could as well get his exemption in case of a win. But the path is still long to the final results and birdies are no numerous on this course that the odds are very tight among all the players.

England’s Josh Loughrey kept the pressure on the field in Tunisian Golf Open. He signed for 69 today for -9 total.
England’s Josh Loughrey kept the pressure on the field in Tunisian Golf Open. He signed for 69 today for -9 total and kept his two stroke advantage over closest opponents, France’s Matthieu Pavon and Italy’s Joon Kim.
“It was not as windy as yesterday because I started early. I got a really good start again. I played really well, really similar I feel really confidence with my swing. I just bogeyed the last hole, I birdied the 8th again, 6 foot from the flag. I’ve heard the Jaguar is only for Sunday so I am getting closer. Three under, I am happy with that.
I don’t think that it changed a lot to play a 4 day tournament compare to a 3 day but it is true that we usually don’t have a moving day. I like a 4 day tournament because it is not so much a race. I think the winning score will be 15, I said that at the beginning of the week. I will keep going as low as possible. Yes 15 will be a good number.”
Matt Pavon, 2014 Open International de Rebetz champion, scored one stroke more than yesterday but is on the leader’s toes. He admitted the end of his round was tough due to fatigue and wind.
“Same as yesterday, I tried to be safe on fairways and hit middle of greens because it works yesterday. I Had a good birdie on 11th, I hit the par 5 in two. I kept on doing my pars and I holed another birdie after a nice iron shot and another birdie on a reachable par 5. I made two mistakes, a poor drive on the 6th and I had three putts as well. I was tired and I felt the pressure because the last holes were more complicated. All in all I was not so focus, another bogey on the 7th but I finished my round with a nice felling, a birdie on the 9th and that is what I want to remember of the second round.”
Italy’s Joon Kim scored flawless card of 67 to join the two players on the provisional podium. The cut is fiwed at +1 including two amateurs Austria’s Lukas Kornsteiner and France’s Pierre Pineau, the 15 year old player from PIC in Paris.

Colombo back in business

Italy’s Federico Colombo produced great score today signing for 67, -5 at Dreamland Pyramids Open opening round.
Colombo is a former European Tour player. He managed to graduate to European Tour during Q School as he had just turned pro. After 3 years on Challenge Tour and 18 months on European Tour, the 27 year old player from Guissano is on Alps Tour to rebuild his swing and game.
“This is the beginning of the season. I have been working hard during the winter. I just wanted to see where was my game. The first two tournaments I did not play that well but I had good feelings. My putting was not the good but I liked the greens this week.”
“My game is getting better. I had good feeling today. At the beginning of the round I struggled a little but on the back nine I had a couple of good recoveries and I made a few good putts for birdies and especially at the end, I holed two birdies on the last two holes.”
Being asked about his feelings after loosing his card on Challenge Tour, the young man confessed.
“It was hard. I changed my coach and I started a completely new work middle of last year but all these things takes time to get better. The game is getting better as it was like 2 or 3 years ago. The problem was more the long game but at the end it was more psychologically.”
I did not come here with any expectation. I am still working a lot on my game and I am just trying to get my confidence back. I am not looking for good results or anything, but I know it is going to come.”
Colombo is not the only Italian players having done well today. A group of 4 players are only 2 shots back of the lead. Among them, England’s Liam Harper and Colombo’s compatriots Joon Kim, Federico Maccario and Luca Fenoglio.
