Modena, October 8th 2022- Jonathan Yates wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit with a three-day score of 14 under-par. In second place, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli who concluded the event at 12 under-par after a final round of 68. France’s Julien Sale who turned pro only a few weeks ago, concluded his tournament in 3rd place with a final round 68 and moved into 2nd place of the Order of Merit rank.
Gregorio De Leo is the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit winner and secures himself a 2023 Challenge Tour card.
The final round of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final began at 7:50 am this morning with a brisk temperature and slightly overcast skies but soon after that when the final pairing teed off at 9:30 am from the 1st hole, the sun peaked through for another beautiful fall sunny day at Modena Golf & Country Club.
The winner’s trophy that was handed to Jonathan Yates was designed and created by artist-designer Roberta Verteramo. Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit rank and earns one of the coveted 2023 Challenge Tour cards that was up for grabs.
Final Round-
Jonathan Yates wins the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final with a three-day score of 14 under-par. He earned 9,500 Order of Merit points and the winning check of €10,000. He followed his opening round of 5 under-par, with a 6 under-par in the second round and a final round of 3 under-par to end the tournament at 14 under-par. After Jonathan’s victory, he was very satisfied: “Today was the best of the week. My game was very very solid. Stefano got off to a really quick start and put up to me early but I’m very happy I responded really well to him. It was a great day and a great week.” When asked to explain his experience on the tour this year he said: “The Alps Tour is fantastic, there is not better 3rd year tour, the tournaments and the golf courses are fantastic. The level of golf this year was phenomenal. I’m going to go 2nd stage of q-school next and then I will re-evaluate my schedule after this week’s result.”
Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit rank and earns one of the coveted 2023 Challenge Tour cards that was up for grabs. Throughout the season he won two events in Italy and one in After Gregorio secured his title as this year’s order of merit rank he commented: “I was nervous at the start, I knew the other players had to win for me not to qualify. I had a slow start but then luckily turned things around to end a good round. I made silly mistakes on the first few holes which cost me some bogeys but luckily, I turned things around. On the back nine, I started off on the 10th hole with an eagle. Gregorio wins the Order of Merit following Jacopo Vecchi Fossa last year making himself the second Italian to win the order of merit in back-to-back years. When asked to comment on what it meant to him to win the Order of Merit rank, Gregorio explained: “It’s a great honor to win the ranking after Jacopo last year, I didn’t expect it. It was never a goal of mine to win the rankings, I definitely wanted to earn one of the Challenge Tour cards but I’m glad I was able to achieve both.” He wants to dedicate this win to his coach, Alain and then his entire family for their continuous support. Gregorio went on to add that, “the Alps Tour is an amazing experience if you’re an amateur or pro. The courses are great and it gives you tremendous experience especially if your ultimate goal is to reach the highest ranked tours.”

The 5 sought after 2023 Challenge Tour cards, category 12 were earned by Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, France’s Julien Sale, France’s Tom Vaillant (am), Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli and Ireland’s Gary Hurley. France’s Tom Vaillant is expected to turn professional within the next few weeks. Gregorio De Leo won with a 6,078.50 points advantage over the second ranked player that was Julien Sale.
The Alps Tour will be back in action in mid-February 2023 in Egypt.

It’s time for the season ending 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final!
Modena, October 4th 2022– Welcome to the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final! After a 17-week long season played in 6 different countries, it’s time for the season ending event. To participate in the sought-after final players, whether professional or amateur, must have participated in at least 5 events in 3 different countries. The first 50 professional players along with ranked amateurs in the ‘Top 50’ are eligible to compete. To compete, besides being placed in the ‘Top 50’, the ranked amateurs must be Alps Tour members. The top 5 players in the Order of Merit rank at the end of this week’s event will earn a Challenge Tour card for the 2023 season.
Gregorio De Leo, current Order of Merit leader has already secured himself one the of five Challenge Tourcards that is up for grabs at this week’s event. Tom Vaillant (am) is 2nd with 30,340.19 points and Julien Sale who will be playing his second event as a professional is in 3rd place with 30,197.50 points.
The 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final will be played at Modena Golf and Country Club in Modena, Italy from October 6th until October 8th. On Wednesday October 5th, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 26 teams.
The Field-
It’s the last event of the season and the best ranked players will be competing for the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final trophy as well as attempt to earn one of the five coveted 2023 Challenge Tour, category 12 cards that will be assigned to the top 5 ranked players in the Order of Merit at the end of this week’s event.
All of this season’s previous winners except for Markus Brier, winner of the 30th Gösser Open and Ben Schmidt, winner of last week’s 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will be competing.
This week the players are competing for a prize fund of €50,000 and 60,000 points. The winner of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final will earn € 10,000 and 9,500 Order of Merit points.
The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play, 18 holes a day with no cut. In case of a tie for 1st place at the conclusion of the 54 holes, there will be a sudden-death play-off to determine the winner of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final.
The tournament defending champion is Spain’s Victor Garcia Broto who won the event in 2021 with a three-day score of 13 under-par.

The Course-
Modena Golf & Country Club, host of this week’s event, is a 6423 par 72 course. It was designed by German professional golfer and 2-times Masters Champion, Bernhard Langer alongside American architect, Jim Engh. Modena Golf & Country Club has hosted prestigious national and international junior events. It has also hosted the 2021 Alps Tour Grand Final as well as the Italian Open in 1993 that was won by Australian golfer Greg Turner with a score of -21.
Modena Golf & Country Club is home to 27 holes of golf, an 18 holes course as well as a 9 holes par three course. The 18 holes championship course has numerous water hazards, relatively large greens and some fairway slopes all within the relatively flat Modenese terrain. The course is outlined among oak and maple trees as well as evergreen shrubs.
According to Peugeot Golf Guide, the 18th hole “daring may be rewarded or simply ruin your card.” It will be interesting to see which strategy will be rewarded on both the par 5, 568 meters 13th hole as well as the par 5, 18th hole.

In a tie for 2nd place at 7 under-par, France’s Augustin Hole and Austria’s Daniel Hebenstreit. In 4th place just 1 stroke back, Austria’s Daniel Gurtner and Italy’s Andrea Saracino. There is a 6-way tie for 6th place at 5 under-par which includes two of this season’s past winners: Portugal’s Tomas Guimaraes Bessa and Ireland’s Gary Hurley.
A typical fall day with overcast skies, a slight breeze and chilly temperatures in Northwestern Italy, welcomed players for the first round of the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open played at Golf Club Castelconturbia in Agrate Conturbia, Italy. This week is the last event of the regular Alps Tour season where players are trying to capture the final points in order to make a move in the rankings ahead of next week’s 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final. Play began at 8:00 am this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole. The forecast will remain chilly for the remainder of the week and some rain is expected for Friday’s final round.
Round 1 Player Quotes-
Three-time winner and order of merit leader Italy’s Gregorio De Leo has a two strokes lead at the conclusion of the 1stround at the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open. He shot an amazing bogey-free, 9 under-par 63 round today. He shot 5 birdies on the front nine hole and 4 birdies on the back nine. Gregorio who has already won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni, 2022 Alps de Las Castillas and the most recent Alps Tour event, the 2022 Roma Alps Open was very satisfied with today’s round. “Today was very good, today my putting helped me tremendously which actually it’s what I struggled with the most lately. Today I holed a lot of putts and a few very long putts. I didn’t take a lot of risks today and had a good strategy which helped me put together today’s round.” He’s already secured his Challenge Tour card for next season, but he wanted “to compete this week to gain some confidence back. The last few tournaments I slightly lost it so I wanted to come back and compete on a course I’m familiar with the regain some confidence. Even though I have already three trophies this season, of course the ultimate goal would be to win another event.”
France’s Augustin Hole who represents Biarritz le Phare and turned professional at the end of the 2019 season, is one of the two players tied at 7 under-par at the end of the 1st round. He shot an incredible bogey-free round with 3 birdies on the front nine and 4 birdies on the back nine. After his bogey-free round, Augustin commented on how: “the pins were interesting on the par 3 today, smart golf was required to be on the right side. It is a great course, you don’t need to hit it very far of the tee, but you need to hit it in the good area of the course to make birdies, and if not, bogeys can come very easily.” He was “very pleased with this bogey-free round, I was able to hit the correct side of the course and had very very good putting.”
Austria’s Daniel Hebenstreit who represents Golf & Country Club Brunn is the other player in the two-way tie for 2ndplace at 7 under-par. He turned professional in January 2020 and has played on the Alps Tour since. In today’s round, he shot 8 birdies and 1 sole bogey. Daniel was pleased about his round today especially his putting: “The course was playing were nicely, there were some tough pins out there today that’s for sure. The greens are very tricky, very sloppy. My game off the tee and into the greens was very solid today. I holed a lot of putts today which was good.”
Daniel Gurtner from Switzerland who turned professional in 2021 and represents the Swiss PGA as well as Kyburg Golf Club, sits in a two-way tie for 4th after today’s first round. He shot a 6 under-par round 66 with 8 birdies and 2 bogeys. After his round Daniel commented on how he found the conditions ideal during today’s round: “The weather was ideal for golf, it was accessible in terms of weather. There was not much wind and the temperature was pleasant.” He also mentioned on how he found some of the pins were tricky but had the best putting round of the season: “Some of the pins today were tricky as some of the greens are very sloppy which made it harder. I tried to give myself the easiest putts possible and I was able to achieve that as I had my best putting round of the season. It was very rewarding.” Daniel went on to comment how he’s really enjoying the course: “It’s the first time the Alps Tour competes here, I really like this course, I like the conditions of the course, I like the greens even though they are tricky as they reward good putting. I hope we will be back here to compete next year.”
Tied for 4th place alongside Daniel Gurtner at 6 under-par and 3 shots back of the lead, there is Italy’s Andrea Saracino. There is a 6-way tie for 6th place at 5 under-par which includes: Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar, Austria’s Alexander Kopp, Portugal’s Tomas Guimaraes Bessa, Italy’s Edoardo Lipparelli, Ireland’s Gary Hurley and France’s Xavier Poncelet.
Julien Sale is competing in his first event as a professional player. He is currently 2nd in the Alps Tour Order of Merit and one of the players that is contenting to earn a Challenge Tour card for next season.
The 120 players in the field this week are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points.
Round 2-
The second round of the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will begin again at 8:00 am from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made.

A crucial week for the players competing at the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open.
Agrate Conturbia, September 26th 2022– After the summer break, the players are facing a decisive week as they are competing in the last tournament of the regular season before next week’s season ending 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final. This will be a very important week for the players who are trying to capture the final decisive points that are on the line and make a final move in the Order of Merit rank. This would allow them to access next week’s event where 2023 Challenge Tour cards will be awarded.
The 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will be played at Golf Club Castelconturbia in Agrate Conturbia, Italy from September 28th until September 30th. On Tuesday September 27th, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 25 teams.
The Field-
A very strong field of players will be competing this week at the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open. All of the current top 10 players in the Alps Tour Order of Merit rank will be present. This includes current leader and three-times winner this season: Italy’s Gregorio De Leo and two-times winner and currently 3rd in the rank: French amateur Tom Vaillant. Alongside the current top 10 players in the rank, the majority of this season’s past winners will be competing. The only past champions that will not be in the field this week, will be, Adrien Pendaries winner at the Winter Series Terre dei Consoli and Markus Brier winner at the 30th Gösser Open.
Current Order of Merit leader Italy’s Gregorio De Leo has already secured one of the 2023 Challenge Tour cards that is up for grabs at next week’s event. He holds an 8,201 points advantage over France’s Julien Sale (am) who is 2nd in the rank. In 3rd place, French amateur Tom Vaillant who is only 644.81 points behind his fellow compatriot. Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli, winner of the 1st event of the season, the 2022 Ein Bay Open is in 4th place with a 4,716.83 points deficit from 3rd place. Stefano Mazzoli has a 1,177.02 point advantage over Ireland’s Gary Hurley who is currently in 5th place.

The Course-
Golf Club Castelconturbia is home to 27 holes that are divided into three different 9 holes courses. The courses were designed and built by Robert Trent Jones Sr. For this week’s tournament, the players will be competing on the blue and yellow course set up as a par 72.
Golf Club Castelconturbia has hosted the Italian Open in 1991 and 1998 and a Challenge Tour event in 2020. It has been ranked in the top 10 courses in Europe since 1987 as well as being one of the best courses in Italy. In 2003 Golf Club Castelconturbia won the award as the best overall course in Italy. The par 4, 7thhole of the yellow course has received international recognition as it was included in a British publication, “1001 Golf holes you must play before you die.”
The current course record is held by JM Olazabal and Costantino Rocca with a score of 66. The golf course is set between secular trees, small streams and lakes with an undulating ground which fits in perfectly with the surrounding countryside.

Gregorio De Leo secures his Challenge Tour card at the 2022 Roma Alps Open.

Rome, July 23rd 2022- Gregorio De Leo wins his 3rd tournament of the season and secures his Challenge Tour card for the 2023 season. He captured his third win of the season at the 2022 Roma Alps Open with a total score of 20 under-par. Two of this seasons previous winners: Stefano Mazzoli and Gary Hurley concluded the tournament in a two-way tie for 2nd place at 17 under-par. In 4th place at 16 under-par, Davey Porsius. Alex Esmatges concludes his tournament in 5thplace at 15 under-par.
The weather conditions have been constant throughout the past few days at Golf Club Parco de’ Medici in Rome, Italy. Today, players had to face another day of humid summer temperatures. At the 2022 Roma Alps Open, the temperature once again, reached again over 40° which made it physically exhausting. Play began at 7:30 this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole. The leaders teed off at 9:09 am.
Final Round Player Quotes-
Gregorio De Leo, only 22 years old, captures his 3rd win of this season by 3 strokes. He shot a final round of 8 under-par for a three-day total of 20 under-par. His final round included 1 bogey, 7 birdies and an eagle on the 17th hole. He previously won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon with an unbelievable 59 in the final round and the 2022 Alps de las Castillas. Thanks to his three victories, Gregory guarantees himself one of the Challenge Tour cards with Category 13 for the 2023 season. After he finished his round, his first reactions were, “I’m extremely happy! Obviously being able to win 3 events on the same tour during the same season it’s incredible. This is my first year as a professional and it’s very special. Winning definitely gives you extra confidence. After my first win it gave me some extra motivation to do well for the rest of the season.” He dedicates his 3rd win “to my coach, we are doing any incredible job together. It’s definitely for him and then my family and girlfriend who are always ready to support me.” He was happy he was able to recover after an unfortunately bogey on the 15th hole with a great birdie on 16 and then making an eagle putt from 6 meters on the 17th hole.
Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli, 25 years old and winner of the first event of the season, concluded the tournament in a tie for 2ndplace at 17 under-par alongside Gary Hurley. Today, Stefano made an unbelievable 11 birdies and 2 bogeys for a 9 under-par final round. When he finished his round, he was very satisfied with his game this week, “I played well all week. My long game was very solid all week. I struggled with my putting in the first 2 rounds but today finally putts were dropping.” When asked how he plans to get ready for the final tournaments of the season after this break, Stefano commented, “I’m going to take some time off to recharge and then I will play a few events on the Challenge Tour to get ready for the final event and the Grand Final.”
Gary Hurley from Ireland, winner at the 2022 Alps de Andalucía shot a final round at 6 under-par to conclude the tournament in the two-way tie at 17 under-par. He made 3 birdies on the front nine holes and 1 bogey, 2 birdies and an eagle on the 17th hole to conclude his round. Gary has now moved into 5th place of the Order of Merit rank ahead of the final two event of the season.
The Alps Tour Order of Merit rank remains intact, with Italy’s Gregorio De Leo leading and France’s Tom Vaillant (am) and Julien Sale (am) to close out the top three spots.

The Alps Tour players now have a few weeks off before the next scheduled event which will remain in Italy but move north to Castelconturbia Golf Club for the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open. The event will be played from September 28th– September 30th. It will be the last regular event of the season before players head to the 2022 Alps Tour Grand Final which will be played the following week at Modena Golf & Country Club.

Rome, July 22nd 2022- Italian amateur Julien Paltrinieri has a one stroke lead entering the final round. Just one stroke back of the lead with a two-day total of 13 under-par and in 2nd place, Spain’s Alex Esmatges. In third place at 12 under-par, current Order of Merit Leader and a two-time winner this season, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo. Ireland’s Gary Hurley, with an amazing bogey-free 9-under par round today is in 4th place, with a two-day total of 11 under-par.
It was another hot day with scorching summer temperatures at Golf Club Parco de’ Medici in Rome, Italy host of this week’s 2022 Roma Alps Open. During today’s round, temperatures reached over 40° celsius which made it physically difficult for the players. Luckily during the afternoon some wind picked up which helped handle the unusually high temperatures and humidity. Play began at 7:30 this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole.
Round 2 Player Quotes-
Julien Paltrinieri, Italian amateur who was in a two-way tie for 2nd place yesterday, holds a one stroke lead after 36 holes. He followed his opening-round of 8 under-par, with a 6 under-par in the second round for a two-day total of 14 under-par. He made 7 birdies today and a single bogey during his round. After his round, Julien was very pleased with his result and commented: “I teed off at 7:30 this morning and the course was a bit wet early on making it slightly longer. However, there was less wind compared to yesterday afternoon which made it easier to hit shots into the green. Today was also very humid which made it feel just as hot as my round yesterday afternoon. I’m very happy, I struggled slightly on the front nine but my short game kept me together and I putted well on the back. I was hoping for another bogey-free round, but the only bogey I made was due to a 3putt.” He went on to explain that once he graduates from his master program, he will then consider turning pro. For tomorrow, he wants to “stick to my routine and focus on each shot.”
Round 1 leader, 28 years old, Spain’s Alex Esmatges followed with a 4 under-par in round 2 and sits just one stroke off the lead at 13 under-par entering tomorrow’s final round. He is playing in his 5th Alps Tour event of the season. In today’s round, Alex made four birdies on the front nine holes to go out in 33 and then a steady 1 bogey, 1 birdie on the back nine to sign for a 68. He is looking forward to tomorrow’s final round being patient and playing with a “similar strategy, hit fairways and greens to leave myself the best putts possible for birdie and see what will happen at the end of the round.”
Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, 22 years old, is the current Order of Merit Leader as well as a two-time winner thus far this season. He followed his opening round of 8 under-par 64 with a 4 under-par 68 for a two-day total of 12 under-par, which allowed him to be in contention with only 2 strokes from the lead. In 3rd place, Gregorio made 5 birdies and 1 single bogey during the round today and explained, “my game tee to green both yesterday and today has been extremely solid. Today I didn’t putt bad, but I didn’t make as many putts as I wanted to which is why yesterday I was able to make more birdies and therefore a lower score.” He also commented that he found, “the course was playing slightly easier today compared to my round yesterday. The toughest part but I think for every player this week, due to the extreme heat and humidity we have to face. That was the toughest part of today’s round, well actually the entire week.” Gregorio’s plans to“play shot by shot tomorrow and stay patient especially in this heat, however its obviously in my mind that the goal is to win a 3rd tournament to guarantee at 110% my Challenge Tour card for next year.”
Final Round-
The final round of the 2022 Roma Alps Open, will begin at 7:30 am from the 1st and 10th hole.
A total of 55 players made the cut which was set 3 under-par (141). The leaders will tee off at 9:09 am from the 1st hole. The winner of the 2022 Roma Alps Open, will earn the winner’s check of €5,800 and 6,525 very important Order of Merit points.

In a tie for 2ndplace at 8 under-par just one stroke back of the lead, an Italian duo: Julien Paltrinieri (am) and current Order of Merit Leader Gregorio De Leo. France’s Alexandre Liu, French amateur Tom Vaillant, Italy’s Cristiano Terragni, Swiss Arthur Ameil-Planchin, Swiss Daniel Gurtner and Italy’s Edoardo Giletta are in a 6-way tie for 4th place at 6 under-par.
Players have to face scorching summer temperatures this week at the 2022 Roma Alps Open, which is being played at Golf Club Parco de’ Medici in Rome, Italy. With such a hot and unusual summer, the players are able to compete on a golf course in good conditions. Play began at 7:30 this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole. During today’s first round, the temperature reached as high as 39°celsius, however they are expected to rise even more over the next few days.
Round 1 Player Quotes-
Spain’s Alex Esmatges 28 years old, sits alone atop the leaderboard after the first round of the 2022 Roma Alps Open. This is his 5th Alps Tour event of the season as he has mainly played on the Challenge Tour this season. He started his round off well with a birdie and an eagle in his first three holes. In the following 15 holes, he continued with 7 birdies to conclude his 9 under-par, 63. At the conclusion of his round, Alex commented: “My game was very sharp today. I was in control of every shot, especially trying to place the ball in the correct areas. I also putted very well today.” He also mentioned on how the golf course allows to have a lot of birdie opportunities, “this golf course is very nice, there is a lot of birdie chances if you hit fairways and greens. The greens aren’t super-fast but are rolling really really well.” His goal is to “approach tomorrow with a similar strategy, hit fairways and greens to leave myself the best putts possible for birdie.”
Italian amateur Julien Paltrinieri is in a two-way tie for 2nd place at 8 under-par with current Order of Merit Leader Gregorio De Leo. This week is Julien’s first Alps Tour event of the season, however he has previously played in other events. He shot a bogey-free round with 3 birdies on the front nine and 6 birdies on the back nine. When he concluded his bogey-free round, Julien commented on how his “long game, especially my irons into the green were very solid giving me plenty of chances to make a birdies.” He also explained how the “hot temperature definitely makes the round a bit tougher and tiring physically. However, by drinking a lot of water and wearing a bucket hat it didn’t affect my game too much luckily.” Julien went on to explain that there “were a few tough pins today and the fairways were very firm.”
Current Order of Merit Leader and a two-time winner this season, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo is the second player in the two-way tie for 2nd place with a bogey-free 8 under-par 64. After his amazing bogey-free round, he explained how the round went: “Today I played well but it was a tough and long day due to the heat we had to face. I putted really well, my putting has definitely helped me a lot over the last few tournaments. When I missed the greens, I managed to make some important recoveries so I’m happy.” When asked about his plans after this week, Gregorio stated, “I will take a few days off but I would like to play some Challenge Tour events before the final 2 events of the Alps Tour season. Nothing is decided as I currently don’t have any invites but it would be good to gain some experience on the Challenge Tour.”
Swiss Arthur Ameil-Planchin is one the players that is in a tie for 4th place at 6 under-par and only a few shots from the 1st round lead. He took a week off last week, which he believes helped him recharge the batteries, spend time with family and friends to come back refreshed and with a solid performance here at the 2022 Roma Alps Open. Arthur summarized his round, “I didn’t drive the ball really well today but I was in a good mood so I enjoyed the round. My putting was very well solid today. I gained some confidence back so it was really helpful specially to see it under pressure. Tomorrow, I want to stay in the same mood, enjoy the round and the score should follow.”
Daniel Gurtner from Swiss is also one of the players in a tie for 4th place. He shot a bogey-free 6 under-par 66 round to begin his tournament. Daniel happily commented after the round:“my game feels solid, last week was a great confidence builder finishing T6th in La Gomera with -13. Today I hit my approach shots good, and I didn’t struggle to make any pars. I stayed patient after starting with 8 consecutive pars. Then on my second nine I was able to convert 5 birdies in the last 6 holes.”
Tied for 4th place alongside Arthur Ameil-Planchin and Daniel Gurtner at 6 under-par and 3 shots back of the lead, you can find: France’s Alexandre Liu, French amateur Tom Vaillant, Italy’s Cristiano Terragni and Italy’s Edoardo Giletta
Among the 130 players competing this week you can find 104 professionals and 26 amateurs from 18 different nationalities. They are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points.

The second round of the 2022 Roma Alps Open, will begin again at 7:30 am from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.

The players compete in the Eternal City for the 2022 Roma Alps Open.
Rome, July 19th 2022– The players are back on Italian soil this week to conclude a 7-week tournament stretch at the 2022 Roma Alps Open. The event will be played at Golf Club Parco de’ Medici in Rome, Italy from Thursday 21st July to Saturday 23rd July. On Wednesday 20th July, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 25 teams.
With decisive points on the line, a full-field of players are expected to compete aiming to gain access to the 2023 Challenge Tour. At the end of the season, the top 5 players in the final Order of Merit rank will be awarded their card for the Challenge Tour.
The Field-
A strong field is expected at this week’s competition, with only two events left on the schedule before the 2022 Alps Tour Grand Final. The majority of this season’s past winners will be competing, including two-time winners: Italy’s Gregorio De Leo who is also the current Order of Merit Leader and France’s Tom Vaillant (amateur) who is currently 3rd in the ranking. Additionally, the most recent winner Netherland’s Vince Van Veen will also be playing. The only past champion that will not be in the field will be, Markus Brier, winner at the 30th Gösser Open. All of the current top 10 players in the order of merit rank will contend for the title.
There will be 144 players from 18 different nationalities competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 2022 Roma Alps Open will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. All the players in the field are eagerly competing for crucial Order of Merit points with two events left on the schedule before the 2022 Alps Tour Grand Final which will take place at the beginning of October.
The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play and a cut will be made after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties.

The Course-
Golf Club Parco de’ Medici is home to 27 holes of golf that are divided into three different 9 holes courses. The championship course was designed by Italian architect Davide Mezzacane and laid out by American Peter Fazio. The course will be set as a 6389 meters par 72 course for this week’s event.
This course has hosted numerous international tournaments in the past including the 2020 Alps Tour Qualifying School,and the 2021 Roma Alps Open mixed event which was played alongside the LETAS players. It is a very demanding and challenging golf course that has strategically placed bunkers, ditches and water hazards. The course is placed between the city of Rome and the sea, which may influence the players game due to the presence of local sea breeze. It is one of the few golf courses in Italy that has a similar feel to that of Scottish golf links. Along the 18th hole fairway, players can find the remains of an antique Roman building that dates back to the 1st century BC.

Gregorio De Leo captures his 2nd win of the season!
Soria, July 9th 2022- Gregorio De Leo 2nd victory of the season aids him in conquering his dream of becoming a Challenge Tour player next season. He captured his second win of the season at the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas with a total score of 14 under-par. Mathias Eggenberger concluded the tournament in 2nd place with a three-day score of 13 under-par. In a three-way tie for 3rd place at 12 under-par: Portugal’s Vitor Londot Lopes, Italy’s Giacomo Fortini and Netherland’s Lars Keunen.
The weather and scoring conditions have been constant throughout the past few days. When the first groups teed off, the temperature was in the low 20*, however the temperatures quickly rose to a high of 35* with no wind today making the scoring conditions very favorable for the players. Play began at 8:15 am and the leaders group teed off at 9:21am and 9:32am from the 1st hole.
Winner Quotes-
Gregorio De Leo wins the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas by 1 stroke. He shot a final round of 5 under-par, that included 1 bogey and 6 birdies. He won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon with an unbelievable 59 in the final round, adding therefore another title to his record. His dream of playing on the Challenge Tour is gradually fulfilling thanks to his victory today. He dedicates his second professional win to his parents, coach Alain and girlfriend that have supported him all along the way. After his win, De Leo commented on how “the course was much firmer today especially around the greens it was much harder to make good recoveries. The pins were a good mix, some tricky ones you had to be careful and some were more accessible.” When asked about his game today, he was very happy: “I’m very satisfied, yesterday I was expecting -15 to be the winning score and I was very close. Today I putted very very well. Today was an incredible day. I’m very happy. My putting definitely helped me a lot to win this week. I putted very well last week also which gave me more confidence into this week. The only mistake during the round was my 3-putt on the 10th hole so I could have reached what I expected be the winning score.” When asked about his plans for the rest of the season, De Leo explained: “I wasn’t expecting to win another tournament so I’m not sure yet how I will my strategy change going forward. I will speak to my coach once I’m home and decide what’s best. I would like to play maybe a couple Challenge Tour events to see how the courses are different and my game compares to their but we will see.”
Another of this season past winners Mathias Eggenberger, winner at 2022 Winter Series Golf Nazionale concluded the tournament in 2nd place just 1 stroke back. After his round, he was very happy with this week’s result and how his game is evolving: “Today was pretty good, can’t complain. I had a tough 1st round but coming back to finish the tournament at 13 under-par I’m happy.”
The tournament ends with a three-way tie for 3rd place at 12 under-par with Portugal’s Vitor Londot Lopes, Italy’s Giacomo Fortini and Netherland’s Lars Keunen. Just 1 stroke back in 6th place, Netherland’s Floris De Haas at 11 under-par.
Gregorio De Leo has now moved into 1st place of the Alps Tour Order of Merit ranking after his victory today, Tom Vaillant(am) has moved into 2nd place and France’s Julien Sale (am) into 3rd place.

A 6-way tie for the lead after Round 2 at the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas!
Soria, July 8th 2022- After Round 2 at the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas there is a 6-way tie for the lead with a two-day total of 9 under-par. In the 6-way tie at 9 under-par, there is: hometown favorite Spain’s Daniel Berna Manzanares, Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Italy’s Giacomo Fortini, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, Spain’s Jacobo Pastor and Netherland’sFloris De Haas. In 7th place with a two-day total of 8 under-par and an incredible bogey-free 10 under-par, 60 today, Spain’s Manuel Morugán. Alongside in a tie for 7th place at 8 under-par, Italy’s Andrea Saracino. Just one stroke back with a two-day total of 7 under-par and in a tie for 9th place, Mathias Eggenberger and Vitor Londot Lopes.
Another beautiful summer day with a pleasant summer temperature welcomed the players at Club de Golf Soria in the inland Northeastern area of Spain for the second round of the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas. The scoring conditions were more favorable for the players in the morning due to calmer wind conditions, unfortunately the wind picked up for the afternoon groups. The course is still playing relatively soft for the players due to the heavy rain that occurred before the beginning of the tournament, giving an advantage to the morning groups. Play began at 8:15am from the 1st and 10th hole.
Second Round Player Quotes-
Hometown favorite, Spain’s Daniel Berna Manzanares shot a 3 under-par round today, to be one of the 6 players tied for the lead heading into the final round. He hopes to have another good round tomorrow and hopefully capture a victory on his home course. When he concluded his round, Manzanares commented on how today was a hard-fought day: “the opposite of yesterday, when I didn’t miss a shot. Today I went out slightly angry because of the three putts on the last hole yesterday. I’m happy to have made zero bogeys and 3 birdies. It was going well, but I started off missing to the left, I didn’t hit the ball well at all and I wasn’t at ease at any moment, but that’s the thing about golf, you have to know when you’re not hitting it well and know how to get the round right.” When asked about his expectations for tomorrow: “if I’m on the 10th tee 3 strokes behind the leader, I know anything can happen, even with three holes to go. I want to fight for it and see if I’m lucky.”
Italy’s Gregorio De Leo is continuing his stretch of good results heading into tomorrow’s final round tied for the lead. He is already one of this season’s past winners, having won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon and would like to add another title to his record. After the round, De Leo happily commented: “I like this course a lot. It’s not a short course, therefore you need to hit the ball well, and need to putt well also. In the last few events, I’ve lost some confidence with my driving which I’ve gained some confidence back this week which it comes in handy on this golf course. Tomorrow I want to try and shot a 5 or 6 under-par round and see what happens. I think the winning score will be around 15 under-par.
Jacobo Pastor is another player tied for the lead, with a two-day total of 9 under-par. He shot a second round at 5 under-par putting him in contention heading into the final round. Pastor happy with his position noted: “I’m happy, I played pretty solid, I had moments of good golf and others not so good. Tomorrow I’ll play another day. There are moments when I think too much about the result, it’s a process of improving to make it easier every day and have more opportunities like today.”
Floris De Haas, a further one of the six players tied for the lead after 2 rounds at the 2022 Alps de Las Castillas. He shot an even par round today to remain at 9 under-par. At the completion of his round, De Haas commented: “I just made a couple stupid mistakes today, especially on the greens.” He found that the course “was firmer compared to yesterday and the greens not as soft. Still the conditions were good, especially there wasn’t a lot of wind.” When asked about his expectations heading into the final round, he responded “If you would have given me this position heading into the last round before the start of the tournament I would have taken it. I will take it very easy tomorrow. There are a lot of good players in the lead and close. I have no expectations, will just enjoy the day.”
Closing the 1st place six player tie: Lars Keunen and Giacomo Fortini.
Spain’s Manuel Morugán, winner of the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open, shot an incredible 10 under-par in Round 2 for a two-day total of 8 under-par and is in a tie for 7th place heading into the final round. His second round included 1 eagle and 8 birdies. He shot a 32 on the front nine and a 28 on the back nine to sign his card for a second round 60. After his round, he commented that his “key today was my mental control. I talked to my psychologist yesterday and came up with a mental strategy to approach the round today and it went very well.”
Together with Morugán in a tie for 7th place, and just one stroke back of the lead heading into the final round, Italy’s Andrea Saracino. Saracino is coming off a 3rd place finish last week and is looking for a solid performance and another good finish heading into the final round tomorrow.
