Italian rookie Lipparelli claims first title at Open de Saint-François-Région Guadeloupe
June 8th, 2019 – Saint-François (FWI) – It didn’t take long to Italian rookie Edoardo Lipparelli until he could claim his first title on the Alps Tour: on his 10th tournament, and after finishing three times in 2nd place, Lipparelli held back his nerves and could finally grab the 6,235 Euros cheque as 1st prize for the 9th Open de Saint-François – Région Guadeloupe, after co-leading the two previous rounds on beautiful Golf International de Saint-François, on the Eastern point of Guadeloupe island, in the French West Indies.
Lipparelli, 22, never left the top of the leaderboard and with solid and consistent rounds in 66-68-67 (201, -12), ended the tournament with a 2-strokes advantage over compatriot Giulio Castagnara, 24, also in his rookie season as a pro, author of the best round of the tournament with a final 65 (-6) that made him climb from 10th to 2nd place. “I’ve been playing good for a while now, and the win finally arrived! I am very very happy and obviously satisfied of getting my first win after three second places”, said Lipparelli, who had a strong amateur career with the Italian team before turning pro in 2017, and won the French Qualifying School last March. “Today it was a tough match out there, with a lot of wind the course was playing difficult; there was a bit of pressure towards the end because many players were doing well, especially Giulio (Castagnara) with 10 under; I was 11 under with four holes to play and I knew I had to finish strong. I tried to stay focussed on my game and actually I did, I made a couple of bad shots but I recovered well with the short game, I made no bogeys today. I’m so happy I’ve made it through! It was a fantastic week here in Guadeloupe, this place is amazing and I’ve really enjoyed it.”
Castagnara is also playing his first season on the Alps Tour, and has finished now five tournaments in-money out of the nine he played, cashing his biggest cheque – 4,235 Euros out of a total prize money of 43,000 Euros: “I started the day at -4, four strokes off the lead, and I thought that -10 or -11 could be good enough to win the tournament. It was a bit windy in the morning but I’ve started well, I made three birdies in the first six holes, then I went on playing well with two more birdies on 10th and 13th, I was close on 14th but I did not make the putt; at that point I was -9, I hadn’t looked at the leaderboard yet but I thought I was close to the leaders. My goal was going as low as -11, but unfortunately I’ve three-putted the 15th; I could recover well with two final birdies – at the 18th I even holed the chip shot! – so in all, it was a good day and I’m very happy of my second place and for Edoardo’s win, it is much deserved after the good results he had before. I’m very much loking forward next week in Italy!”.
Argentinian Leandro Marelli, 28, co-leader after the second round, could only add a final 70 (-1) to finish solo in 3rd place: “It was not a good day on the greens for me, I was not able to save pars in four holes, so three birdies and one eagle were not enough to challenge Edoardo, he played very well and he deserves this win very much”.

Lipparelli and Marelli on top after 2nd round in Guadeloupe
June 7th, 2019 – Saint-François (FWI) – The second round of the 9th Open de Saint-François – Région Guadeloupe is over, and the stage has changed a bit except for one name, Edoardo Lipparelli, who’s still keeping the top position having added a 68 to yesterday’s 66 ; at -8, the Italian is sharing now the lead with Argentinian Leandro Marelli, author of the best round of the day, 66 (-5).
The duo has just one stroke advantage over another Argentinian, experienced Rafa Echenique ; with two consistent rounds (68-67), the man from San Luis is standing solo on 3rd position at -7, and three more players share the 4th position at -6 : Frenchmen Maxime Radureau (who was 2nd last year in this tournament) and Xavier Poncelet, plus English amateur Jack Floydd, yesterday’s co-leader.
Rookie Lipparelli, 22, is confirming his great, consistent form (he’s 2nd in the season Order of Merit after having collected 3 second places in the first 9 tournaments of the year) and is in good position to finally claim his first, full title as a pro, after winning the French Qualifying School in March : « I’m very happy about the way I’ve played today, although I did not make as many putts as I wished ; the course was a bit more difficult as the wind picked up and the ground is getting drier, but it was a solid round. Tomorrow’s final round is certainly going to be challenging and I will need to be very careful ; I want to be focussed just as I was today, thinking shot by shot, and I’m sure it’s going to be fun ».
Marelli, 28, a regular on the Pga LatinoAmerica, is playing his 4th Alps Tour tournament, looking to climb the Order of Merit and get one of the spots available for the promotion to the European Challenge Tour : « I had the chance to finish well my round with three birdies on the last three holes (after 4 more birdies and 2 bogeys) ; lately I have been playing very solid and I feel I can play another good round tomorrow in order to finish high on the leaderboard, this is my main goal. I love playing the Alps Tour ! ».
Echenique, 38, is also a member of the Pga LatinoAmerica and is coming back to the Alps Tour after the first two tournaments of the year in Egypt (where he had a 4th place in the Red Sea Little Venice Open, last February), having had to stop for some weeks because of a back injury. « I’ve played very well both days, I was able to stay very patient and I feel I’m on the good track for a new chapter of my career in Europe ; now I just want to have a good round tomorrow ! ».
46 players (43 pros and 3 ams) made the cut at +3 (145) on beautiful Golf International de Saint-François, on the Eastern point of Guadeloupe island, in the French West Indies. The total prize money is 43,000 Euros, and the winner will get a cheque of 6,235 Euros.

In Guadeloupe, four players share the lead at -5 after 1st round
June 6th, 2019 – Saint-François (FWI) – At the end of the first, hot and sunny day of the 9th Open de Saint-François – Région Guadeloupe, four players coming from three different countries are sharing the lead at -5 (66).
It comes as no surprise that Italian rookie Edoardo Lipparelli, 22, number 2 in the season Order of Merit, is once again on top of the leaderboard, after claiming three 2nd places (the last one in Italy at the Memorial G. Bordoni, the last tournament before Alps Tour moved to Guadeloupe) ; sharing the lead with him, also English amateur Jack Floydd, 23, who showed good form in Austria, two weeks ago, playing the final day in the leaders’ match ; Dutch Davey Porsius, 23, on his second season on the Alps Tour, and Italian Edoardo Vizzotto, 23, looking to make his first cut as a pro in style, with his father on the bag.
One stroke back, at -4 (67), are three players: Englishman James Sharp, 27, winner of Cervino Open in 2017, and two Frenchmen, Romain Guillon, 25 – playing his first tournament as a pro – and Martin Farfal, 23. They all will have to look behind them as a group of five well-experienced and in-form players are pursueing at -3 : Frenchmen Xavier Poncelet, Fred Lacroix and Sebastien Mihel, and Argentinian Rafa Echenique and Leandro Marelli.
It was a spotless, bogey-free round for Floydd : « The first time I saw the course I’ve really liked it, so that helped. I’ve been hitting the ball well for the last few weeks and today I played very solid, I’ve made a couple of saves on the back nine and the front nine, so I’m really pleased with that. Obviously it is very hot and this does not make things easier, but it is ok, I’m enjoying it here. The course is a bit different from what we’re used to, although we did play in similar ones in Egypt as for the kind of grass. I am still an amateur, yes, and I chose to play the Alps Tour because it allows me to accumulate points in the Order of Merit, and experience, without needing to turn pro. I’m going to play the British Amateur Championship in a couple of weeks, and we’ll see what happens. I’m not really used of leading a professional tournament, in Austria a couple of weeks ago I’ve played in the final group and it was a first for me, but I think my game has been steady for a while, so the main thing now is to maintain this position also tomorrow ».
On Porsius’ card, six birdies (two in the front nine and four in the back) and one bogey, on hole 15 : « I’ve started working with a new course management system and it paid off today. It helped me staying patient. I like the course, I had already played here last year, I love the country and I was looking forward to coming back. I think they made a great job with the greenkeeping, considering the hot and humid conditions and the heavy rains they had lately. Usually I’m not that good in the heat, but I’ve made some preparations back home and it worked well ».
Seven birdies for Vizzotto, and two bogeys: « It was a really exciting day of golf for me today, in spite of the scorching heat – although I think it was better than the previous days. I’ve started well, with four birdies on my front nine (he started from hole 10) and two more at the beginning of the back nine, on the last holes I kind of held back a little, maybe I was starting to feel a bit tired, but I’m really happy about the way I’ve played. The course is beautiful, greens can be tricky especially within two metres from the hole, but in all I love it ».
Lipparelli was the last to return his -5 card, with a bogey-free round : « I’ve played very well in spite of the heat, which is certainly a factor. You need to be very patient on this course, it doesn’t forgive mistakes ! Hopefully I’m ready to play another good round tomorrow early in the morning, I will try to play shot by shot without thinking too much ! ».
39 players shot par or better on beautiful Golf International de Saint-François, on the Eastern point of Guadeloupe island, in the French West Indies, fighting against hot and humid conditions, unusual to most of them.
