Frenchman Alexandre Fuchs wins the Saint-Malo Golf Open

French amateur Alexandre Fuchs won today the Saint Malo Golf Open with a total of -18 at the Saint-Malo Golf Resort

This is Fuch’s first victory as an amateur in a professional tournament. 
 
Davey Porsius (NED) turned in the best card of the day at -7 (9 birdies, 2 bogeys) to finish tied for 2nd place (-16 total) with the leader of the Alps Tour’s Order of Merit, Santiago Tarrio (ESP). Tarrio, who was the leader of the tournament entering the final round, made only 4 birdies and 2 bogeys today. He will have to wait for his third victory this season on the Alps Tour to move up directly to the Challenge Tour. 
 
«  I’m just so happy, I finished very strong with a very good birdie on the 18th, a good 2-putt from 30 feet, it was not an easy shot at all » said 20-year-old Fuchs, a first year student out of Liberty University in Virginia (USA). « Winning this tournament is big, it’s a big thing for me » he continued. «  It’s completely crazy, my friend won last year as an amateur (Thomas Boulanger) exactly as I did today and I told myself ‘you can do it because he did it last year’ and so I’m just proud because I did it » he concluded. 
 
Fuchs made 6 birdies and 2 bogeys to finish his final round at -5. 
Weather conditions were sunny with some wind picking up in the afternoon and temperatures in the 30s. 
 
Santiago Tarrio (ESP) still leads the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking. He is followed by Marcus Mohr (ENG) who finished tied for 11th place today at -11 total, Alexandre Daydou (FRA), Louis Cohen Boyer (FRA) and David Borda (ESP).

Rising golf stars of the Alps Tour will now travel to La Gomera in Spain’s Canary Islands for the Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera July 12th through July 14th.

French amateur Alexandre Fuchs remains leader of the Saint-Malo Golf Open after round 2 at -12 total at the Saint-Malo Golf Resort

Argentina’s Sebastian Bergagna turned in the best card of the day at -8 to move up to 6th place tied at -8 total. Bergagna made 2 eagles, 6 birdies and a double bogey. 
 
Fuchs is followed by Thomas Grava (FRA) who is at -10 total and by a group of 3 players at -9 total: Felix Mory (FRA, am), Robin Goger (AUT) and Clemens Gaster (AUT). 
 
«  My day was great with some ups and downs. I had a very strong start with 4 birdies in the first 6 holes and then I made 2 bogey on holes 10 and 11 » Fuchs said. «  It was tough with the wind this afternoon, the greens were not as good as for my first round but I’m happy, I’m going to keep the same plan for the next few days, have fun and we’ll see what happens. I’m feeling good about my game, I think it’s going to be a fun weekend » he added. 
 
«  My driving was a bit less accurate today but it was in play every time. I did not put any balls out of bounce except on hole 16 where I snapped it on the left. My putting was solid even though I missed a few putts today but I made a lot of good putts nevertheless. I made a 6ft putt on hole 18 for my last birdie of the day » he concluded. 
 
Fuchs made 6 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double bogey. 
Weather conditions were very misty in the morning then humid and sunny in the afternoon with temperatures in the mid-20s. 
 
51 players including 8 amateurs made the cut set at -2 and will play round 3 tomorrow. The final round is scheduled for Sunday.  
 
Round 3 will tee off tomorrow at 9h05 local time.

French amateur Fuchs leads in Saint-Malo with course record

French amateur Alexandre Fuchs turned in the best card of the day today (-10) to beat the course record and become the leader of the Saint-Malo Golf Open at the Saint-Malo Golf Resort in France.

He is followed by Robin Goger (AUT) at -8 and by a group of 3 players at -7: Matthew Rion (FRA), Davey Porsius (NED) and Felix Mory (FRA, am).
«  I made a great 62 (the course record). Everything went well. I made some great shots all along the course » 20-year-old Fuchs said. « On hole 18, I reached the pin out of the bunker for eagle » he continued. Fuchs made 2 eagles and 6 birdies today. « The course is rather easy if you play well, pins are not too long, the greens are in very good shape which is great for the putting game » the first year student out of Liberty University in Virginia (USA) added. « It was cool, I had a good time. I played with a group of cool guys » he concluded.
Fuchs’ goal is the get as much experience as possible and get the best world ranking to obtain invitations on the European Tour or Challenge Tour.
Weather conditions were mostly sunny with some clouds in the afternoon and temperatures in the mid-20s.
Round 2 will tee off tomorrow at 7h45 local time.
