Tournament Entries for the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open

The 9th edition of the Abruzzo Alps Open gets underway on Thursday. 

Miglianico, July 25th 2023- The tour returns to action this week in Italy after a week off and they head to the Abruzzo Region in Central Italy for a notable stop on the tour schedule. The 9th edition of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open will be played at Miglianico Golf and Country Club in Miglianico, Italy. The twelfth event of the 2023 season, will be contended from Thursday 27th July until Saturday 29th July.

On Wednesday 26th July, the traditional best ball aggregate to par shotgun pro-am will take place with approximately 30 teams competing.

This will be a very important week for the players who are trying to capture the decisive order of merit points that are on the line and make a move in the Order of Merit rank. The top 5 players in the rank at the end of the 2023 season will earn Challenge Tour cards for the 2024 season.

Spain’s Manuel Morugan captured the trophy last year and will be in the field to try and defend his title.

The Field

A packed field of notable players is expected in Italy this week for the 12th tournament of the season, the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open.

All of this season previous winners will be competing for the title this week in Central Italy, except for Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele who captured 3 titles this season and therefor earned his Challenge Tour card.

The following 9 players in the top 10 Order of Merit rank are expected to compete: Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, England’s Jack Floydd, Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Spain’s Quim Vidal, Italy’s Gianmaria Rean Trinchero, France’s Benjamin Kedochim and Oihan Guillamoundeguy, Italy’s Luca Cianchetti and Spain’s Jose Manuel Pardo Benitez. 

The field will be made up of 144 players representing 15 different nations. The players will be competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 9th edition of the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open, will earn €5,800 and 6,525 crucial Order of Merit points.

The tournament will be played as a 54 holes stroke play event, where a cut will be made after 36 holes. The top 40 players and ties will compete for the title, during the final round which is scheduled for July 29th 2023.

The Course

Miglianico Golf and Country Club is a 5875 meters par 72 course located in Miglianico in the Province of Chieti, about 20 km south of the city of Pescara in the Abruzzo Region. It was designed by well-known American golf architect, Ronald Kirby. The course is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, bunkers, and artificial lakes making Miglianico Golf a pleasant but challenging course to play with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.

Miglianico G&CC has hosted numerous events in the past including the Abruzzo Alps Open for eight times, the 2021 and 2022 1st stage of Alps Tour Qualifying School and the 2009 Games of the Mediterranean.

Like the majority of the Alps Tour events that are played on Italian soil, the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open is organized by the Italian Pro Tour, which is a branch of the Italian Golf Federation. They are responsible for promoting the majority of the professional golf events that occur in Italy.
