Final Round Player Quotes

Spain’s Alejandro Aguilera, 24, wins the 2024 Croara Alps Open after making a birdie on the 2nd playoff hole against Austrian amateur Jakob Lotschak. He earned the winning check of €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. Most importantly, Aguilera, before this week, was 56th in the Order of Merit standing and hadn’t qualified for next week’s 2024 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by DEPOT- The Male Tools & Co.. Thanks to his win, Aguilera moved up 34 spots and finds himself in 22nd place in the updated Order of Merit rank. He will be next week at the season-ending Grand Final.  He followed his opening round of 69, then 68 in round 2 and an amazing 9 under-par, 62 to end the tournament at 14 under-par. In today’s final round, he made 10 birdies and 1 bogey. Before this week, his best finish was a 7th place at the 2024 Alps de Andalucía. This is his first win as a professional player on a tour, and Aguilera was extremely happy. “It feels great, but it feels weird that I wasn’t in contention this morning. So, you know, I could play freely and with less nerves. Once I started making some putts and cameras, I knew I was moving up the leaderboard and had a chance. I must admit that on the last few holes I was a little nervous. Overall, it’s unbelievable this is a dream for me.”  He wants to: “dedicate my win to my parents, they are always there to help me every day and I’m extremely thankful.” When asked about his 62, Aguilera commented: “I did play pretty good today but it wasn’t anything exceptional especially off the tees. However, my putting was incredible, I was able to make a lot of putts and that’s the main reason I believe I shot 62.” He is now, “flying back to Madrid and I will be celebrating the win either tonight or tomorrow, however I will then be flying back to Milano on Monday and be ready to compete at the Grand Final. Obviously, the goal is to move up to the Challenge Tour and now I have two opportunities as I qualified for Stage 2 of DP World Tour Q-School and the possibility to earn my way up from the Grand Final, I’m excited and can’t wait for next week.”

The Alps Tour Order of Merit rank heading into the 2024 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by DEPOT- The Male Tools & Co. has France’s Benjamin Kedochim still in the lead with 27,431.40 points. Brandon Kewalramani from the United States of America and Netherland’s Vince Van Veen remain in 2nd and third place in the standings.
