France’s Alexis Leray, already well positioned after the opening round, remains firmly in contention following a 69 (-3). The 2025 Qualifying School winner sits in second place, two shots behind the leader, alongside Spain’s Agustí Quinquilla.

Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar, who recorded two podium finishes in the opening events of the season, and Ireland’s Robert Moran are close behind, three shots off the lead.

For tomorrow’s final round, play will begin at 8:00 a.m. from the 1st and 10th tees. At the conclusion of the third round, the winner will receive €6,200 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. In the event of a tie, a playoff will determine the champion.

Round 2 Player Quotes

Andrea Romano : “I’m very happy because my game feels really solid. Even when I hit a bad shot, it’s never a big mistake. I usually stay on the right side, which makes it easier to recover and save par. I’ve also realised that when I’m putting well and feeling confident on the greens, I’m very comfortable out there and can keep a positive mindset throughout the round.”

Alexis Leray : “I’m quite pleased with my first two rounds. I had a really good putting day friday, while today was a bit more difficult on the greens. I missed several birdie opportunities, especially from short range, which could have helped me go lower.

That said, I’m very satisfied with my game and with how I’m playing overall at the start of the season. Apart from a difficult first round in the opening event, things have been going well, I’ve been consistent and I feel comfortable on this tour in my first season. I’m in a good position, and I’ll try to make the most of it to earn as many points as possible.”

Murphy sets the pace after Round 1 at New Giza Open

Egypt, February 27, 2026 – In-form players made an immediate impact at the start of the 2026 New Giza Open, with Ireland’s Sam Murphy taking the early lead in Cairo after an impressive 65 (-7). The Ein Bay Open winner continued his strong start to the season with a flawless, bogey-free round.

Full leaderboard

Italy’s Luca Memeo set the pace in the afternoon with a solid 66 (-6). Fellow Italian Andrea Romano, winner of the Red Sea Little Venice Open earlier this week, confirmed his excellent form with a 67 (-5). The current Order of Merit leader shares third place alongside England’s Barclay Brown, France’s Alexandre Vandermoten and Alexis Leray, and American Adrian Soriano.

Play was suspended due to darkness before all groups could complete their rounds. The remaining players will return to the course at 7:00 a.m. to finish Round 1, while Round 2 will begin as scheduled at 7:00 a.m. from both the 1st and 10th tees. At the conclusion of the second round, a cut will be made to the top 40 professionals and ties (excluding amateurs), who will advance to the final round.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Sam Murphy : ” My game felt really solid again — I drove the ball well, gave myself plenty of good opportunities, and hit my irons beautifully. Hitting all 18 greens made it a bit more stress-free, even in tricky conditions.

I’m absolutely delighted with the round. It’s a great way to start the tournament, and now the goal is to build on it with another solid, steady round tomorrow. We’ll see where that puts me, but I’m really pleased with how everything went today and I’m hoping to keep this form going.”

Alps Tour heads to Cairo for the 2026 New Giza Open

Egypt, February 26, 2026 – The Alps Tour players are set to return to action this Friday, February 27, for the third event of the season, the 2026 New Giza Open. The tournament will be held at the stunning New Giza Golf Club in Cairo and will run until March 1

This marks the fifth edition of the event, which was first introduced in 2019. Last year, Spain’s Javier Barcos claimed victory in a playoff against France’s Quentin Debove after both players finished tied at -17 over 54 holes. Barcos is now playing on the HotelPlanner Tour and Debove on the DP World Tour.

The tournament offers a prize fund of €42,500 and 45,000 Order of Merit points, with €6,200 and 6,525 points awarded to the winner. The competition will be played over 54 holes of stroke play, with a cut after 36 holes to the top 40 players and ties (excluding amateurs).

The Field

The first two winners of the season, Ireland’s Sam Murphy (Ein Bay Open) and Italy’s Andrea Romano (Red Sea Little Venice Open), will both be in the field, alongside all of the current top 20 in the Order of Merit.

Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar, currently third in the standings after two strong podium finishes, will be looking to go one step further this week at New Giza Golf Club. France’s Nicolas Calvet, who also came close to victory at the Red Sea Little Venice Open, will aim to continue his strong start to the season.

In total, more than 15 nationalities are represented in a field of 120 players, including 14 amateurs. Four Egyptian players will also be competing, eager to perform well on home soil.

The Course

Located southwest of Cairo, approximately 200 km from Sokhna Golf Club, New Giza Golf Club spans 200 acres and offers spectacular views of the iconic Pyramids of Giza. Designed by Thomson, Perrett & Lobb, this par-72, 18-hole championship course is carved from an ancient quarry, blending seamlessly with the natural terrain.

The layout winds through undulating desert landscapes with wide fairways, scenic lakes, and strategically placed bunkers. Large, rolling greens and elevation changes provide both challenge and playability, while elevated tees offer striking panoramic views.

For this week’s competition, the course will play at 6,711 meters, further establishing New Giza as one of the premier golfing destinations in the Middle East.
