Saint-Omer, September 14th, 2024- Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar captures his 1st Alps Tour title at the 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open with a two-round score of 4 under-par. Tied for 2nd place at 2 under-par: Spain’s Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela, France’s Benjamin Kedochim, Nicolas Aparicio, and Aaron Van Hauwe (am), as well as Brandon Kewalramani from the United States of America.

Due to the delays and unfavorable weather forecast during yesterday’s round, the Tournament Committee of the 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned event decided to reduce the tournament to 36 holes with no cut. Nevertheless, full points and prize money will be allocated as established.

Play was first suspended yesterday, September 13th, at 12:05 p.m. during the morning wave of the 2nd round of the tournament due to unplayable course conditions. The play was then called for the day at 4:00 p.m. as the course remained in unplayable conditions.

The round resumed this morning at 8:15 a.m. for the players already on the course, and the second wave of Round 2 began at 9:20 a.m. with beautiful sunny skies and a brisk temperature.

The 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open is a co-sanctioned event between the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) and the Alps Tour. The event is being played on the same course with alternating tee times between the Alps Tour players and LETAS players. There are 66 players competing from each tour for two different dedicated prize funds and thus trophies.

Final Round Player Quotes

Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar, 29, captures his 1st Alps Tour title at the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open. He shot a first-round score of 1 under-par, 70, and today, he shot a 3 under-par, 68, making 5 birdies, which one on the 18th hole to secure his victory and 2 bogeys. Galiano Aguilar has earned various top-20 finishes this season but hadn’t been able to come out on top. After his victory, Galiano Aguilar was very emotional, “I talked a lot with my team, and I knew coming into here I had to have a good finish. You never know what can happen in golf, but my objective was a top 5 this week and a good opportunity in Italy. This week was amazing. I played so well. It’s been about 1 month that I’ve been playing so well, and it’s incredible. I worked hard, and I can see the work I did. My goals heading into the last two events will slightly change.” Galiano Aguilar added: “I was on the lucky side of the draw this week, and I’m thankful for that. However, you know that’s golf; in one tournament, you have the bad draw, and in the next tournament, you are lucky with the draw, and this week was my lucky week.”  He also said, “To be honest, I was talking to myself during today’s round because I was in this position a while ago, and I’m telling you I was so nervous that I couldn’t handle the pressure. I practiced a lot and couldn’t put myself in position. However, I feel like my game is good enough to win tournaments out here, but one thing is saying and believing, and the other is being able to do it. Today was different, I was very nervous during the entire round but at the same time I felt very in control of myself I felt very good throughout the entire day and now I know I’m able to win out here.” Galiano Aguilar dedicated this win to: “My entire family, my girlfriends, all my friends, but for sure also for me. I put a lot of pressure on myself when I was still an amateur, and it was tough for me when I turned pro. To be honest, it’s really hard for me to tell you what I feel, but I feel so happy, very happy. I can’t wait to celebrate.”

After the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open, France’s Benjamin Kedochim still leads the current Order of Merit standings. Brandon Kewalramani from the United States of America remains in 2nd place, and Netherlands’s Vince Van Veen rounds out the top 3 spots.

Final Round

Spain’s Mario Galiano Aguilar, winner of the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned tournamentearned the winning check of €6,400 and 6,525 Order of Merit points. The players competed for a prize fund of € 40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points.

LETAS

In the LET Access Series event, Australia’s Kelsey Bennett secured her first tour win at the 2024 Hauts de France Pas de Calais Golf Open after winning a one-hole play-off.

The 24-year-old sunk a 35 foot birdie to take victory over Switzerland’s Anais Maggetti and England’s Billie-Jo Smith.  After her win she commented: “This win means a lot; I missed the cut at the Rose Ladies Open last week and I was wanting the week off but I spoke to my team and they pushed me to come and play this week because a win can give you so many points on the leaderboard.”

12th September 2024 | Alps Tour Golf

Five players lead the field after Round 1 of the 2024 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open.

Saint-Omer, September 12th, 2024- Estonia’ Sander Aadusaar, French amateur Aaron Van Hauwe, Spain’s Álvaro Hernández CabezuelaBrandon Kewalramani from the United States of America, and Nicolas Aparicio from France are in a 5-way tie for the lead at 3 under-par after the 1st round of the 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open. Tied for 6th place at 2 under-par two players from France: a two-times season winner, France’s Théo Boulet and Paul Elissalde.

The 2024 Hauts de France—Pas de Calais Golf Open is a co-sanctioned event between the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) and the Alps Tour. It is played on the same course with alternating tee times between the Alps Tour players and LETAS players. 66 players from each tour compete for two different dedicated prize funds and trophies.

The first round of the 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open, played at Aa Saint – Omer Golf Club in the Northwestern part of France, began at 8:15 a.m. local time this morning from the 1st and 10th hole. Players were able to compete during today’s first round with mostly sunny skies, some winds and a pleasant temperature as it warmed up during the day.

Round 1 Player Quotes

Estonia’s Sander Aadusaar, 29, concluded his first round of the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open with a 3 under-par, 68 and be in a 5-way tie for the lead. During today’s opening round, he made 1 eagle, 2 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine holes, and 1 birdie and 1 bogey on the back nine. Aadusaar enjoys this venue as he has earned some good performances over the previous two editions. “I think last year I finished 6th, and I also had a good start. To be honest with you it felt just like a normal round, but this course does seem to suit me well. I hit a lot of fairways and greens today. Out of all 18 holes, there was only 1 special hole, hole 7, where I nearly made albatross. I hit it to 10 cm, and it was an eagle tap-in for eagle, but the rest of the round was normal today.” Regarding the weather conditions during today’s opening round, Aadusaar added: “I’m used to this kind of weather, especially the wind, as I played the Nordic League, so wind, is definitely not a problem for me. I’m ready for all kinds of weather this week, especially windy conditions.” Over the past few days, ahead of the start of the tournament, a lot of rain fell over Aa Saint-Omer Golf Club, he thinks that: “hitting the greens on this course is very important, around the greens there are a lot of spots which are soft, wet places. Hence, it’s very difficult to chip from there. However, if you’re on the greens, you’ll be able to give yourself many birdie chances and be in a good place on the leaderboard.”

French amateur, Aaron Van Hauwe, 16, finds himself in a 5-way tie for the lead after round 1 of the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open with a 3 under-par, 68 making 3 birdies on the front nine holes and 1 birdie and 1 bogey on the back nine. Van Hauwe was satisfied after his 1st round: “Overall it was a very good day, my driving was average at the beginning of the round, but I was still able to hit most of the fairways. My iron game and putting especially my lag putts as well as from 3 to 6-meter range were very solid today and that helped me a lot. That’s what allowed me to put together a good round.”

Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela, 27, is the third player in the 5-way tie for the lead after the opening round of the 2024 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open. He made 3 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine holes, and then once he made the turn, he made two more birdies, one on the 10th hole and the 15th hole to complete his round. He turned professional in 2021, and this is his 4th season on the Alps Tour. After he completed his opening round, Hernández Cabezuela commented: “Today was tricky, I found most of the round to be complicated with the windy conditions. I played well, though, overall, I began with a bogey on hole 2, then a birdie on hole 3 and another bogey on the 4th hole. It was an up-and-down beginning, that’s for sure, but then I was able to birdie 3 holes in a row from holes 9 to 11 and another one on the 15th hole. I played very well all around and barely missed any shots. I felt that I left some shots out there, but we always do, we always try to look for perfection but I’m pretty happy with the opening round overall.”

A two-time season winner, Brandon Kewalramani from the United States, is also in the 5-way tie for the lead with a first-round score of 3 under-par, 68. He made 4 birdies and 1 bogey in today’s round. Kewalramani won the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar and the 2024 Alps de Andalucia and is currently 2nd in the Order of Merit ranking. He is looking to secure his card for the 2025 Challenge Tour season with a good performance this week. Kewalramani commented: “Today was a lot of fun, it was pretty cold this morning and windy and I tried to keep the ball lower especially on my approach shots and played a lot more for the center of the greens. I wasn’t looking at too many flags. Once the wind died down, especially towards the end of the day on the shorter holes, I was able to play more aggressively towards the flag. Overall, I had a great time out there today with Ben and Vince; having good company helps.”

Alongside AadusaarVan Hauwe (am), Hernández Cabezuela, and Kewalramani in the 5-way tie for the lead after the opening round of the 2024 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open, there is France’s Nicolas Aparicio. He shot a bogey-free 3 under-par, 68 with 2 birdies on the front nine and 1 birdie on the back. Aparicio was very: “Happy about my 3 under-par, it was very well fought, to be honest because at the beginning of the round I wasn’t hitting close to the pins and missed a couple greens, but I made a lot of good up and downs to save my score. My first real birdie opportunity came on hole 18, which was my 9th hole, and I was able to make it. My momentum was good at that point, and I tried to stay as calm as possible and keep going forward.”

LETAS

In the LET Access Series event, Australia’s Kelsey Bennett fired a fantastic first round of 67 (-5) to lead by one shot. Bennett is accompanied by friend and LET player Michele Thomson this week on the bag and the duo are making a good team. Bennett has played this season between LETAS and the LET and at the end of last month qualified for the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying Series.

In the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) players field, there are 66 players represented. They are competing for LETAS Order of Merit points and their prize fund which is set at € 40.000. After the round tomorrow, a cut will be made to the top 30 professional players and ties.

10th September 2024 | Alps Tour Golf

Back-to-back weeks in France as the 2024 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open begins Thursday.

Saint-Omer, September 10th, 2024- The Alps Tour remains in France this week but moves to the North region of Hauts de France- Pas de Calais for the 14th tournament of the regular season, the 2024 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned event.

The tournament will occur from September 12th– 14th at Aa Saint-Omer Golf Club near Saint-Omer in France.

Like the past two editions, the tournament is co-sanctioned between the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) and the Alps Tour. Therefore, the event field will be split in half between players belonging to both tours, 66 players from each tour. However, the competitors will be competing for two separate prize funds and two separate titles.

This will be the third year this event is part of the Alps Tour schedule. In previous years, it was a MasterCard Tour event, a European Challenge Tour event, and a DP World Tour event.

There will be two pro-ams during this tournament week. On Tuesday September 10th, a total of 9 teams, with 2 professionals (1 Alps Tour player and 1 LETAS players), will play in a pro-am with tee-times that will run between 12:50 p.m. and 1: 40 p.m. local time.

On Wednesday, September 11th, approximately 24 teams (12 Alps Tour players and 12 LETAS players) will take part in the traditional Tour Scramble shotgun pro-am, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. local time.

The Field

A strong field of players is expected this week at the 2024 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned tournament with the LETAS. The majority of this season’s past winners will be competing in the 66 players field this week, including the 2 times season winners: France’s Théo Boulet and Brandon Kewalramani from the United States as well as last week’s winner at the inaugural 2024 Longwy Alps Open, France’s Damien Perrier. The only season winners that will not be in the field this week, will be, Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner, who won the 2024 Gösser Open, and France’s Antoine Auboin, who won the 2024 Lacanau Alps Open.

Nine of the Top 10 players in the current Alps Tour Order of Merit rank will compete in France for the 14th event of the season, except for number 10, Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner.

France’s Vincent Helly, who has twice won the Pas-de-Calais Paragolf Open and, in 2020, the title of French National Paragolf Champion, will compete this week alongside the Alps and LETAS players.

It will be an important week for the Alps Tour players trying to capture the decisive points and make a final move in the Order of Merit rank. At the end of the season, the top five players will gain access to the 2025 Challenge Tour.

The 66 players scheduled to play this week represent 13 different nationalities. They will compete for a prize fund of € 40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner of the 2024 Hauts de France—Pas de Calais Golf Open will earn €6,400 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

This week, the players will compete in 54-hole stroke play, with a cut made after 36 holes to the top 30 players and ties.

The Course

Aa Saint-Omer Golf Club is a 6182 meters, par 71 course in Saint-Omer, France, that opened for play in 1990. It is the only golf course in France designed by Dutch golfer Joan Dudok van Heel. It is set in the middle of a natural site, with spectacular views of the Valley of the AA. The course has an undulating terrain surrounded by trees that offer various challenges to each player. Aa Saint-Omer Golf Club is ranked among the top 30 courses in Northern France. It is home to 27 holes: an 18 holes championship course and a 9 holes course, which is ideal for beginners or players wanting to improve their short game.

It has hosted an annual professional tournament since 1997, belonging to different tours. In 2000, it became part of the European Challenge Tour. In 2003, it became an official DP World Tour event. However, it was removed from the DP World Tour schedule in 2014 as the tournament took place during the same week as the US Open. Thus, it remained a Challenge Tour event until 2022, when it became a co-sanctioned Alps Tour and LETAS tournament.
