Paul Franquet makes it three in a row for France with Allegria Open win
Egypt, April 26th, 2026 – Paul Franquet extended France’s winning run on the Alps Tour by claiming his maiden title at the Allegria Open, overcoming challenging conditions in a dramatic final round.
Strong winds made scoring difficult throughout the day at Allegria Golf Club. The Frenchman, who had led since the start, struggled early with three bogeys in his first five holes.
However, the Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche player showed great resilience, adapting to the conditions and fighting back. A crucial birdie on the 10th put him back on track before a stunning finish — a brilliant iron shot at the 17th set up a tap-in birdie, followed by an eagle on the 18th to seal victory in style.
Aymeric Laussot, who held the lead with three holes to play, saw his chances slip away with back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th. He eventually shared second place with fellow Frenchman Augustin Holé, who fired an impressive 67 (-5), Italy’s Alessandro Nodari, and Spain’s Gonzalo Leal.
With this victory, Franquet earns €6,200 and 6,525 Order of Merit points and moves up to seventh place in the standings, while the top five remains unchanged.
The players will return to action on Thursday, April 30th in Italy for the 2026 Miglianico Alps Open.
Round 3 Player Quotes
Paul Franquet: “It felt like such a long day. The course was completely different from the first two rounds — the wind had changed direction and the pin positions were tougher. It was a real test of golf and mental strength. I actually played very well but had a lot of bad breaks. I just told myself to stay patient, and finishing birdie-eagle to win is incredible. I was +3 after five holes but still felt I was playing well. Once I adjusted to the wind, I really found my rhythm. It’s only been six months since I turned professional, so this is a huge relief. Last season I had a couple of chances but couldn’t close it out. I worked a lot on my mental game, and today it paid off.”
Gonzalo Leal: “I’m proud because even after hitting two balls out of bounds, I never gave up and kept fighting until the end. Finishing three under over the last four holes makes me quite satisfied with my attitude. It’s a shame to come so close, but that’s golf. I feel good, I’ve started the season solidly, consistently around the top 20, top 15, top 10. I just need to take that next step and create more opportunities like this to eventually get a win.”
