Augustin Holé extends his lead at the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting
The 2nd round of the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting began as an overcast day with some light to moderate rain for the players competing at Asolo Golf Club in Cavaso del Tomba, Italy. Play began at 9:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. This is the season-ending tournament where the top 5 players in the Order of Merit rank at the end of this week’s tournament will earn a Challenge Tour, category 12b card for the 2024 season.
Augustin Holé from France extends his lead after 2 rounds of the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting with a two-day total of 13 under-par. He followed his bogey-free 9 under-par opening round, with a 4 under-par, 68 where he made 5 birdies and 1 bogey. He is twenty-six years old and currently represents Biarritz Le Phare. After his round, Holé was very satisfied as he: “I’m enjoying it, I’m enjoying it a lot. I hit lots of good shots, a few good putts, and a chip-in, I mean, nothing can bother me at the moment. I’m trying to do my best on every shot and enjoying the day.” During today’s round, he had a chip-in birdie on the 8th hole, when asked about the scoring opportunities, he commented: “I gave myself many birdie opportunities, and my chipping as well as my long game is very good at the moment to so both combined is pretty decent.” The weather forecast hasn’t been great this week and rain remains in the forecast: “The weather has been ok today, we were expecting a lot of rain, and we didn’t have so much. At the beginning of the round when it was raining I played decent, I was trying to make pars and I did that really well. Once it stopped raining I was able to get my round going. We will see for tomorrow.” Holé added that “Of course, tomorrow’s goal is the trophy!”
Twenty-seven years old, Alexandre Daydou from France finds himself in 2nd place after his 6 under-par 66 in today’s round for a total of 9 under-par. He turned pro in 2016 and currently represents Cannes Mougins. In his round, he made 3 birdies and 1 bogey on his front nine before making the turn, where he made 2 more birdies and 1 eagle on the 12th hole. Daydoucommented that: “My game was ok, I made a few opportunities on the front nine where I was able to birdie 8 and 9. I knew I had to stay focused for the back nine because they are slightly trickier for me so I tried to stay focused and get some birdie opportunities and see what happens. I’m happy with my game today, especially with this weather.” He made a birdie on 11 and an eagle on the 12th hole: “I was able to birdie 11 and eagle 12 so it was a good 30 mins for me. I hit a good drive, then my 3-wood and made a good eagle putt from about 7 meters.”
France’s Benjamin Kedochim, who shot a 1 under-par round yesterday, finds himself tied for 3rd place with a two-day total of 7 under-par alongside Ireland’s Paul McBride. In his 2nd round he made 6 under-par, 66 with 7 birdies and 1 bogey. Prior to the start of this event, Kedochim was 11th in the Order of Merit rank and is looking for a good tournament here to hopefully make a move to try and earn one of the 5 coveted Challenge Tour Cards for next season. After he signed for his 6 under-par, 66, he commented: “Obviously I thought about the standings. I know I have to either win the tournament or finish in 2nd place to enter the top 5. So, putting a low round together is what I needed to do and I’m glad I did. My putting today was great.”
Tied alongside Kedochim in 3rd place at 7 under-par, Ireland’s Paul McBride. He is 27 years old and represents The Island Golf Club. He is 17th in the current Order of Merit rank and is looking to make a move with a good performance this week. McBride followed his opening round of 6 under-par, with a 1 under-par, 71. He made 4 birdies and 3 bogeys.
In 5th place with a two-day total of 6 under-par, one of this season’s winners, England’s Jack Floydd. He shot a 4 under-par, 68 today and is looking for a strong finish tomorrow as he was 4th in the standings ahead of this week and wants to secure his Challenge Tour card for 2024.
Final Round
The Final Round of the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting will begin at 9:00 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. The final pairing will tee off at 10:28 am local time from the 1st hole.
The players are competing for an overall prize fund of €50,000 and 60,000 Order of Merit Points. The winner of the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final Presented by AURALIS Limitless Lighting will earn € 10,000 and 9,500 Order of Merit points.
