A crucial week for the players competing at the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open.
Agrate Conturbia, September 26th 2022– After the summer break, the players are facing a decisive week as they are competing in the last tournament of the regular season before next week’s season ending 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final. This will be a very important week for the players who are trying to capture the final decisive points that are on the line and make a final move in the Order of Merit rank. This would allow them to access next week’s event where 2023 Challenge Tour cards will be awarded.
The 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will be played at Golf Club Castelconturbia in Agrate Conturbia, Italy from September 28th until September 30th. On Tuesday September 27th, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 25 teams.
The Field-
A very strong field of players will be competing this week at the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open. All of the current top 10 players in the Alps Tour Order of Merit rank will be present. This includes current leader and three-times winner this season: Italy’s Gregorio De Leo and two-times winner and currently 3rd in the rank: French amateur Tom Vaillant. Alongside the current top 10 players in the rank, the majority of this season’s past winners will be competing. The only past champions that will not be in the field this week, will be, Adrien Pendaries winner at the Winter Series Terre dei Consoli and Markus Brier winner at the 30th Gösser Open.
Current Order of Merit leader Italy’s Gregorio De Leo has already secured one of the 2023 Challenge Tour cards that is up for grabs at next week’s event. He holds an 8,201 points advantage over France’s Julien Sale (am) who is 2nd in the rank. In 3rd place, French amateur Tom Vaillant who is only 644.81 points behind his fellow compatriot. Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli, winner of the 1st event of the season, the 2022 Ein Bay Open is in 4th place with a 4,716.83 points deficit from 3rd place. Stefano Mazzoli has a 1,177.02 point advantage over Ireland’s Gary Hurley who is currently in 5th place.
There will be 120 players from 18 different nationalities competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play.

The Course-
Golf Club Castelconturbia is home to 27 holes that are divided into three different 9 holes courses. The courses were designed and built by Robert Trent Jones Sr. For this week’s tournament, the players will be competing on the blue and yellow course set up as a par 72.
Golf Club Castelconturbia has hosted the Italian Open in 1991 and 1998 and a Challenge Tour event in 2020. It has been ranked in the top 10 courses in Europe since 1987 as well as being one of the best courses in Italy. In 2003 Golf Club Castelconturbia won the award as the best overall course in Italy. The par 4, 7thhole of the yellow course has received international recognition as it was included in a British publication, “1001 Golf holes you must play before you die.”
The current course record is held by JM Olazabal and Costantino Rocca with a score of 66. The golf course is set between secular trees, small streams and lakes with an undulating ground which fits in perfectly with the surrounding countryside.

Like the majority of the Alps Tour events played in Italy, this event is organized by the Italian Pro Tour, which is a branch of the Italian Golf Federation. They promote a great part of professional golf events that are played in Italy. The main sponsors that support the Italian Pro Tour include DS Automobiles, Fideuram, Kappa, Rinascente and Poste Assicura. In addition, their media partners are the following three Italian newspapers: Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport and Il Giornale.
