Vecchi Fossa and Boote tied at the top after first round of Red Sea Little Venice Open
Last year’s winner, Spaniard Jose Antonio Sintes Navarro, who triumphed as an amateur, is currently at even par in 50th place.
The first round of the 2025 Red Sea Little Venice Open, held at Sokhna Golf Club, started this morning at 7:00 a.m. local time from the 1st and 11th hole on a sunny day, with the wind beginning to pick up toward the end of the morning. In the afternoon, the sky became overcast with a northerly wind blowing at 20 km/h and gusts reaching up to 30 km/h, and a temperature of 15°C.
We caught up with Italian leader Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, who sits at -5 after the morning round. Despite breaking his putter last week and switching to a new one, he quickly found his rhythm with the new club. Here’s what he shared about his round:
“I played really well today and made very few mistakes. I had some uncertainty off the tee with my driver, but I capitalized on the right holes. The putter worked great, I’m thrilled because I wasn’t too confident after switching putter following last week’s break, but it turned out to be a good fit. It was colder than last week; this morning we were bundled up in heavier clothes and wool hats, but thankfully it wasn’t too windy. I’m happy and ready to attack tomorrow!”
David Boote battled chilly conditions to get off to a strong start. Here’s what he had to say:
“It was very, very cold today. The guys at the driving range said they’ve never seen this cold here and it was a big change from last week. The wind picked up in the afternoon, but I started solidly with a few pars, then I’ve made some birdies around the turn. I struck the ball really very well with my driver, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the week.”
ROUND 2
The Welshmann David Boote will begin his 2nd round at 7:50 am local time from the 11th hole and the Italian Jacopo Vecchi Fossa will begin round 2 at 12:20 pm local time from the 1st.
