Rome, November 14^th 2024 – Spain’s Jose Luis Adarraga Gomez leads by 1 stroke at the end of the 2^nd round of the 2024 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage. In a three-way tie for 2^nd place at 7 under-par: Ireland’s Liam Nolan, Italy’s Alessandro Nodari, and Matteo Cristoni (am).

A chillier and more overcast morning was the backdrop of today’s second round of the 2024 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage. The weather conditions were tougher today as it was a colder and windier day compared to the opening round.  The 156 players compete to earn their 2025 Alps Tour Playing Cards on Golf Nazionale (Par 72) and Terre dei Consoli Golf Club (Par 72). The players switched between the two golf courses compared to yesterday’s round.

Today, he competed at Golf Nazionale, shooting a bogey-free round of 7 under par, 65. He finds himself in the lead heading into tomorrow’s final round of the Q-School Final Stage. Once he concluded his round 2, Adarraga Gomez commented: “Yesterday, I played well, but I lost one ball and another in the water. Today was perfect, I played well, and my strategy was perfect as well as my putting. I holed a lot of important putts.” He added that he found the: “Weather to be much different today. It is much colder today; the scores are higher, and I strongly believe the cut will also increase. It is a much different day compared to yesterday. A bit of north wind is picking up, which is also making it quite challenging out there.” 

Liam Nolan from Ireland, 24, is in a 3-way tie for 2^nd place with a two-day total of 7 under-par. Today, he shot a 3 under-par 69 at Golf Nazionale with 4 birdies and 1 bogey. After his round, Nolan said he was: “very happy with my round today. I held some good putts today to avoid dropping shots, keeping my round going nicely with some good momentum. Today was a lot tougher compared to yesterday. It was colder and windier, which made the par 5s longer, so there were fewer birdie opportunities on the course. It was important for me to stay patient and try and capitalize on chances when they came.” Nolan turned professional a few months ago, and “?it would be a great achievement to earn full status tomorrow to give me a full season of competitive golf. It is a great opportunity to continue to improve my game and I’m excited for tomorrow to try and get the chance to earn the full status after tomorrow’s final round.”

Alessandro Nodari, 24, from Italy, who was in the tie for 29th place alongside Adarraga Gomez after yesterday’s 1st round with a score of 1 under-par, 71, now finds himself in a 3-way tie for 2nd place with a two-day score of 7 under-par. He shot a bogey-free 6 under-par 66 at Golf Nazionale today to make a move up the leaderboard. After his round, Nodari explained,“Personally found this course much harder than Terre dei Consoli, which I played yesterday. The conditions today were tougher; it was windier, and the greens were harder, so it was important to calculate your yardages very well and where you wanted to land your ball. Today, my tee shots were very good; I hit nearly every fairway, which was a bonus to keep my ball always in play.” 

Italian amateur Matteo Cristoni,22, is the third player in the 3-way tie for 2^nd place with a two-day total of 7 under-par. He shot a 5-under-par round during yesterday’s first round at Terre dei Consoli Golf Club, and today, he shot a 2 under-par 70 at Golf Nazionale. Cristoni is competing as an amateur this week, and currently, “turning professional isn’t part of my short-term plans as I still need to graduate from college. I’m in Italy for about 2 weeks and then will return to the United States. I hit 16 greens today, it was unfortunate the double bogey on 3, but overall, my game was good, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.” 

The highlight of the day belongs to Spain’s Ruben Pardo Rodriguez who made a fabulous hole-in-one during his Round 2 at Terre dei Consoli Golf Club on the 146 meters, 16^th hole with a 9-iron.

Final Round

A total of 78 players (58 pros and 20 amateurs) made the cut which was set at +3 (147). They gained access to tomorrow’s final round, which will be played at Golf Nazionale. The tee times will begin again at 8:00 am local time from the 1^st and 10^th hole. The final pairing will tee off at 10:12 am local time from the 1^st hole.

After tomorrow’s final round, the top 35 players and ties ranked according to score, will be eligible to receive Category 6 membership for the 2025 Alps Tour Season. The remainder of the players who made the cut, and finished between the 36^th and 65^th position will be eligible to receive Category 8 membership for next year’s season. The remaining players who conclude the tournament between the 66^th and 156^th position, will be eligible for membership in Category 9 for the 2025 Alps Tour Season
